They're completely different products. One is for some people, the other is for other people. What we're not gonna do is shit on the one we don't like, because both have their place - one as a hilarious comedic product, and the other as a way to test and exercise your mind.
What I find more hilarious than anything is when their guest is trying to be funny... around 11:56 check out Susie's and Rachel's faces... they are so fantastically unimpressed by his attempts at humour.
American here; Didn't know there was an actual show until 8OO10C referenced it in a random clip I was watching. Good God, what a difference in dynamic and its funny watching Susie and Rachel polite laugh.
@@_JohnDoe he probably assumes that most people in britain know that this show exists and wasnt invented for cats whereas an american wouldnt have much reason to know or assume that.
@_JohnDoe The OP is probably anticipating the people who find comments like this and just have to put "How could you not know this? Have you been living under a stone?"
Fun fact: Television studios are often very hot, because of all the lights. So wearing a revealing dress is actually much more comfortable than wearing something more covering. I guess what I'm trying to get at here is ... YOWZA!!!!
Not everything written on the internet is correct ... AND you need to already know what you are googling to do it while you can just flip a page and read something you didnt know before in a book.
Disturbingly, Muck006 is correct; the English language is losing its depth and subtlety, as people believe the simplified, or even incorrect, versions of definitions of words. Even many English teachers don't seem to have a clue anymore. It's really quite sad.
@Per Sunn "that there's "no comma before *and*" Ah, now that was what we were taught, too (not that I was paying much attention). The "and" is supposed to contain it's own comma, however, it's a very old fashioned way of doing things, and most people nowadays are used to the comma (see, I used it there and only thought about it afterwards).
I'm beginning to get a bit suspicious about Countdown these days. On the 9th Jan 2019 episode, both contestants got a 9 letter word in one particular round. The word was "Elasipods"! Isn't it strange that both would get such an unlikely word? It's like they're just learning that "scrabble words" book off by heart, without really knowing what the word means.
For a while I have wondered if contestants should know and be able to explain the meaning of a word if they want points for it. I know that's not the game but it would sort the men from the boys (i.e. the people who have a genuinely good vocabulary from the ones who just memorise words)
1. You're referencing a game where both contestants are series winners who have gone on to a tournament for series winners only (i.e. the best of the best). And even then one player beat the other by 40 points which is a thrashing. 2. Both players are good at stemming. The letters that appear on Countdown are very "predictable". It's likely both contestants saw ADIPOSES (an easily spottable Countdown word) and knew that L is one of its 4 possible stems. ADIPOSES + L = ELASIPODS. It's not that hard to remember once you've seen it hundreds of times before.
@Oliver McCall And I'm calling the show dreary. I didn't say it should rely on comedy. I said it was dreary, which was an opinion on the quality of the show. Not to mention that even game shows should try to be a little lively.
@Oliver McCall Did I say people shared my opinion? I'm voicing my opinion. It doesn't have to be a popular opinion. You can disagree with the opinion. By all means, tell me how the show is not dreary. But claiming that its dreariness isn't a qualitative factor in assessing the show is using an authoritative argument in the place of a subjective one.
@Oliver McCall I didn't say they should try to be a little lively, I said I don't think that they're lively enough for my taste. And, given the other comments here, I'm not the only one who thinks that. I don't care if other people like the show; I don't care if the show rakes in money because of how boring it is, I'm saying I don't like the show.
Why are the regular countdown clips so short, but the comedy version they unload the entire show? I don't know the rules ( and maybe since I only know wheel or fortune) but it seems like 4 vowels and the rest consonants are a standard was to go.
More swearing. Jimmy being his usual self, ie some kind of a cunt. More swearing. Novelty messing about during the first few rounds. More swearing. Joe Wilkinson being himself. More swearing.
The tag attaches to the chain with a small magnet. When he was asking the questions, he was pretending to write in his notebook, but he was actually writing the date on the tag. He hides the tag in his left hand before he puts the notebook down. As he "adjusts" the chain, you can hear the click as the magnet on the tag attaches to the magnet on the chain. Then he slides the chain around, pretending the tag was there the entire time. If you want to try it yourself, search amazon for things like "magnetic quick release" or "magnetic ID necklace".
In the second round, BOOSTER was another seven. In the third round, two more sixes were REGULO and ROTGUT. In the fourth round, you could go as far as seven with the biological term MEIOTIC, the adjective relating to meiosis. Another way to do the first numbers round is: 8 + 1 = 9 9 x 9 = 81 81 x 7 = 567 25 x 3 = 75 567 + 75 = 642 It seems like you should be able to do something with the factors, because 107 x 3 x 2 = 642, but I couldn't find any way to reach either 107 or 214.
Fucking hell the two contestants sure do have weird facial expressions at the beginning. The woman is irritating as fuck and Oliver looks scared shitless
I actually had an 8 in the first round with "aromates" though i am not sure if it would be in the dictionary susy uses as it describes a chemical compound
I got sick of the other version because it takes 17 minutes before they even start playing the first game but my god it’s so much better than this version, this is so boring!!
This is for a more older audience that the Cats version. It’s very popular among the elderly because they have longer attention spans. I prefer this one because it gets straight to the point and doesn’t waste 20 minutes laughing about a sex joke
Series 62 is featured as of the WORST ever series of Countdown because there was ONLY 2 Octochamps with not only 1 securing himself in the 800 club but the 2nd one was the lowest scoring Octochamp EVER! Then there was 2 low scoring non-Octochamps scoring under 700 in this series. And there was also 4 6-time winners & despite the 5th & 6th seed outscoring more than the 2 7 time winners. And (with the exception on the first QF) the QFs had the lower seed defeating higher seed & the 2nd SF had another upset. Also this Series featured 112 episodes since I'm including Celebrity Big Brother & Yearly Champion 2009. And Finally this is episode 5211 as of Wednesday 23rd February 2011 in Series 64.
Yes, Oliver got fairly lucky in that everyone else in his series was bad. Like... really bad. It's a disappointing final when one of the contestants doesn't know MASTER stems to MAESTRO
