【Genshin Animatic】 Flos | Happy Birthday Zhongli!

Thank you for bearing with this! I am but a simple writer with minimal artistic ability, but Zhongli's character from Genshin Impact shook me so hard that I had to try and make something for him for his birthday.

Storyline:
PLEASE note that the story is up to your interpretation!
- Guizhong, Zhongli’s best friend during the Archon War, pleads with Zhongli to understand and emphasize with humans as they protect their followers from the monstrosities of the war. She dies in the same war.
- In present day, the Liyueans struggle with their own lives. Zhongli beholds and remembers all of this, as he is a god, and is pained by the human struggle. He is interrupted by a young Xiangling who wants him to try his dish, reminding him of the human spirit.
- Zhongli goes about his day in present day, ending it in Mt Aozang where he, Guizhong and the Adepti used to dine and drink.
- In the past, Guizhong and Zhongli had a deep friendship. I imagine she pranks his himbo ass a lot. When he finds out that Havria’s own people mercy killed her, he attacks her remaining followers but is stopped by Guizhong.
- In present day, Zhongli (as per his story quest) receives and grants closure to Havria by putting her relics to rest in the graveyard of Archons, Guyun.
- In the past, Zhongli stops Ganyu from killing Xiao, whom he just freed from an abusive master / rival Archon. Despite them being enemies, Zhongli offers Xiao freedom and meaning.
- in the past, Venti comes to Liyue. Zhongli thinks he’s in trouble, offers help but learns that Venti is just here to have a drink with him. He shocked that an Archon could be so irresponsible, but ends up having such a good time that the seven original Archons make a habit of meeting in Liyue for drinks (all canon). The other five archons slowly die out and so does the practice of having drinks.
- Guizhong leaves a locked dumbbell for Zhongli with all her knowledge, as she does. Zhongli cannot open it. During one of his visits to her grave, he officially meets Ningguang. They both find each other comfortingly familiar and hit it off.
- I imagine them as platonic friends here, but it is again up to your interpretation.
- In the present, Zhongli mingles with the humans of Liyue and makes his mark on each of their lives.
- Zhongli and Ningguang become close friends and eventually go on a walk together in Jueyun Karst
- They are ambushed by treasure hoarders who “kill” Zhongli and gravely injure Ningguang, taking their Visions.
- Zhongli, who canonically has hyper durability / regenerative powers compared to humans, rains hell down on the treasure hunters before they can kill Ningguang.
- Ningguang recognizes that Zhongli used powers without his Vision and the implications that entails: he is Morax. She is understandably shaken by betrayal and reverence, and by the time she recovers, Zhongli has left, thinking that she no longer wanted anything to do with him.
- They are both big sad. Ningguang recalls that during her childhood in poverty and desolation, it was he who had silently helped her. (Canonically Zhongli has kept tabs on her since childhood because of her strength and determination)
- Zhongli goes about his normal routine, once again stopping at Aozang to reminisce.
- Ningguang arrives with all the Liyue humans whom Zhongli has made an impact on, to celebrate his birthday.

So this animatic delves pretty deep into the lore of Genshin Impact, which I recommend reading up on in the character stories themselves because it's SO, so good. But in case reading isn't your thing, here's a basic rundown.
//SPOILERS FOR GENSHIN IMPACT LIYUE ARCHON QUEST STORYLINE \\
- ZHONGLI, during his time as Morax in the Archon War, was a brutish and warmongering god, much unlike his collected self today.
- GUIZHONG, the lady with the flower in her hair, was Zhongli's best friend and maybe lover during the Archon War 6,000 years ago. She was the "brains" in the Zhongli/Guizhong relationship, and died during the war.
With her final breath, she beseeched Zhongli to understand the humans better. Zhongli spends the next millennia trying to, eventually stepping down to truly join the mortals, as we see in the Archon Quest of Liyue.
A few other scenes that touch on the Liyue folk's backstories:
- NINGGUANG as a child is described by Zhongli as "walking barefoot down Yaoguang Shoal, trying to sell her wares", for which he has respect for her.
- BEIDOU is infamous for killing Haishan, a ferocious sea monster, without her Vision.
- QIQI was killed in the Archon war but brought back by Adepti bc she was considered an innocent bystander -- she received her vision in her last moments of life, as she desperately wished to be able to "freeze" time. She also has a hard time collecting herbs (and ends up hurting herself because she has to fulfill her own overzealous orders as a jiangshi/zombie), thus the piggyback picture.
- KEQING has a lot of criticism for Rex Lapis, which Zhongli encourages and finds absolutely hilarious (she's cussed him out at the Rite of Descension and he ended up laughing for an hour out of amusement)
- TARTAGLIA / CHILDE was gifted a pair of chopsticks by Zhongli in their early acquaintanceship, AFTER making it clear that he had no clue how to use them. He mentions it again later during the Archon quest, implying he is actively learning how to use them.
- XIAO was an enemy of Zhongli in the Archon War, but was taken in after his (abusive and tyrannical) master was killed by Zhongli
- GANYU was Zhongli's right hand man during the war and his longest standing advisor / warrior.
- CHONGYUN (and presumably XINGQIU, whom he is friends with) looks up to Zhongli as an intimidating but respectable man
- XIANGLING appreciates Zhongli's bluntness towards her dishes, he regularly frequents the Wanmin restaurant and gives her good cooking advice.
- XINYAN thinks Zhongli is eccentric but is flattered that he likes her music (even if he tries to get her to play it at funerals)
There are also tons of other easter eggs that I've stuffed in there that I won't have the space to explain, plus a lot of self-indulgent headcanons :') Let me know what you found interesting

I'm about to cry at the theory that Ningguang is the reincarnate of Guizhong for the third time this month. The thought of Zhongli learning how to love again is so tragic because as always, he'll outlive everyone and everything.
Are visions given to the person solely or is it the thing that they wear? (Like the glowings pendant things they wear on the clothes) I saw the pendant came off Ningguang and she couldn’t do anything so that had me confused

I'm not sure I understand your question, but basically Visions are the glowing gemstone/pendants that give characters their elemental powers -- they're given to people that the Gods deem "worthy". They absolutely can be taken away to rob the person of their powers as the Electro Archon is doing so to Vision-wielders in Inazuma.
Visions can also be transferred from person to person as long as the previous owner is dead, as this is what happened to Ningguang (she found a dead guy's Vision and tried to sell it but it ended up resonating with her instead)
In the animatic in question, the treasure hunter / robbers are trying to kill Zhongli and Ningguang for their Visions to sell, since there is clearly a large market for Visions as seen in Ningguang's Vision story.

They were able to sneak behind, they probably took it right before they could even notice. They were just focused on each other, that's why it happened.

You'd be very disconnected with the world if your enjoying to much, like both of you are trapped inside your own bubble/world.
ig real zhongli would be too hard to catch off guard or let alone hit in the head, but ig in the video ningguang looking like guizhong triggered a soft spot

Its hilarious cause it may be canonically how it happened. Morax commented that once upon a time the 7 archons would gather and drink. Hilarious to consider that this is likely how Venti started that as he and Zongli are the only 2 of the original 7 left.

i freaking cried... the unexpected zhongguang content caught me off guard WKJDJFJDKSJDJS I LOVE THIS VIDEO SO FREAKING MUCH
I almost teared up, I love how much effort was put into portraying the lore accurately and with heart too. I could feel the passion seep out of each frame as one of my favorite songs accompany the visuals just as beautifully. I can't wait for more to unfold with Ganyu and the likes, as one character is built upon, that building also trinkles down to the rest of the characters and story of the game. I hope to come back to this video in the future to see how well it holds up and how finely it ages.

Yeah in his legendary mission when he tells the traveler to remember his story, the story of Liyue (past, present and future too) once he goes to other world's just hitted so hard and we are not even half way of leaving Teyvat……

Holy moly! This is beyond godly. This made me tear up a little for some reason. I was contemplating whether this would include the "Ningguang is the reincarnation of Guizhong" and it actually did which made me happier.

I'm a fan of that theory because it's just beautiful storytelling that Zhongli handed the reins of Liyue to the "embodiment" of Guizhong's spirit / personality, considering Guizhong was the one who started the human settlement that would become Liyue Harbor. This is incredible and I absolutely love it to death! Actual tears in my actual eyes. I am feeling ALL of the feelings. There's so much crammed in here and I appreciate it all SO MUCH! Favorite parts are definitely him sitting at the table with Guizhong and Cloud Retainer and then they vanish, contrasted with the full cast at the end. His old friends certainly can't be replaced, but the new ones he's made are just as important and love him just as much. Ugh. My heart. I can't. Thank you so much for making and sharing this! ♥
