some points about slowpoke tail: 1. team rocket wasn't just going around chopping slowpoke tails off, they were rounding the slowpoke of Azalea town up for their tail cutting operation, or at least preventing them from leaving Slowpoke Well 2. while built to be detachable and delectable, slowpoke use their tails to catch their own meals and they can't exactly regrow their tails indefinitely without a source of nutrition 3. the dex entries saying slowpoke losing their tail doesn't hurt them came about for the same reason mega evolutions were retconned to be immensely painful, they wanted to phase out our old view of the matter (eating slowpoke tail is cruelty and mega evolutions are wholesome, respectively)
I understand your point, but Megas were always like that, at least in the anime (see Korrina & Lucario), which is likely where the games took that bit of lore from (which actually further emphasizes the importance of a strong bond by having a consequence if there isn’t one)
@@CaptainObliviousV agreed on that and well the Mega evos tend to last for a single battle as well usually, and honestly for a reason, I feel like MOST of the dex entries were ACTUAL problems after time went by, like so MAD MAN decided to let a pokemon stay mega for longer than whats safe, which is like a couple of minutes, resulting in those side effects worsening
Point number 3 is also dictated by regional regulations I assume. Both slowpoke tail consumption and mega evolution might be illegal in Johto regardless. but in Alola the slowpoke tails are likely a regulated fishery that you need a license for, hence why you only see them in grocery stores and can’t obtain them on your own. Mega evolution meanwhile is likely a legal grey area that only specific trainers that know what they’re doing can use (ie the champion). We don’t have a clear indication whats legal and not legal in every specific region, but it’s probably safe to assume that stuff like this would have laws pertaining to them in different regions.
I guarantee you, for all the canonically edible Pokemon, I bet extremely rich people spend a LOT of money to buy Shiny variants as some kind of culinary delicacy.
One thing I will say about Togepi is that pretty much every egg you eat in the real world is unfertilized. That means that there's just a bunch of fluids. However, if the egg is fertilized, like a Togepi would have to be, you get the embryo of the chicken, so when you crack open the egg after cooking it, there is an underdeveloped baby chick that you would have to eat. So unless Togekiss can lay unfertilized eggs like a chicken, I HEAVILY advise not going for Togepi eggs. James was an idiot to want to eat the Togepi egg without knowing what's inside.
My sister assumed that there was some off screen farm facility with real world animals raised to be food. She was so upset when I told her that's not real lol
I headcanon that the way that team rocket removes the tail prevents it from regrowing. Like they cut the tail too far up, cutting off part of it's body.
Team rocket rounded up the slowpoke and not only did they cut off their tails but they also treated them the slowpoke poorly to the point of them being on the brink of death. Kanto and johto probably realized that the slowpoke tail market was full of the slowpoke tails from team rocket that it was just easier to outright ban slowpoke tails in general. The reason why I think places like alola, kalos, and Galar still eat it is due to licensed fishermen who cut the tail off feed them a berry then release them into the wild. Hence why you see the slowpoke tails in stores but you can’t get slowpoke tails from slowpoke yourself.
In slowpokes dex it says it's tail falls off but team rocket most likely cuts the tails instead of letting them fall naturally so I think that's why it's illegal and the ones that are served in the food dishes are ones that fell off.
As a kid I always looked at the pokemon red sprite for pikachu and thought one of it's legs looks like a chicken drumstick. You know what they say, everything taste like chicken.
Hear me out, grass type mixed salad, you take every grass type and shove them into a bowl get some berries or salad dressing and you will be set for an excellent meal.
about the slowpoke thing, there is a very simple explenation. back in Jotoh and kanto dex entries were rougher. so they just retconned the pain and added the regrowth thing to make it more child friendly.
I would absolutely eat Miltank because not only is it tasty, but I also hate Miltank, so I would get to enjoy both the flavor and its demise. I suppose I would drink its milk as well.
I feel like meat from a fire type would be more smokey then spicey, because they must have, like some sort of fire organ that lets them breath fire, hence why many of them have darker colors, they are literally being roasted from the inside out!
I love cooking, so this video was welcome to me in many ways. Oddly emboar is likely my favorite pokemon (my first ever starter) so even if I love cooking never saw buddy as a pork, so now I wont forgive myself. Also other pokemon I would eat other than the ones mentioned are most seafood pokemon. And one of those is veluza who can shed its meat like snake skin and that is delicious, so I would hunt veluza just for that. Dondozo sound like a pokemon fishermen could sell a lot of meat due to size. Other than that if pokemon ever does a game based on italy (my favorite cuisine) I want a shrimp (could be related to tatsugiri) and another regional convergent of sinistea as a wine glass that evolves to a bottle of wine.
I wrote an entire speech on pokemon edibility for a college class. I was looking for the MOST edible and ended up with slowpoke. The only problem with the Vanilite line is that according to the Pokédex, and other sources of info, It’s so cold that you would essentially get hypothermia
Magikarp might be a good stew though, just add seasoning and simmer until it releases all of the nutrients and discard the carcass nuggets and strips are chicken, it’s just breast meat with breading- pressed or just intact meat doesn’t change a thing

One I’ll say that would be interesting to eat is probably Farfetch’d or that less it’s leek since in Galar you could use its leek as a cooking material so it’s bound to taste somewhat good.

I agree with all of these except for 3. 1. Combusken: I like chicken IRL and I don't doubt they'd taste good but Blaziken is my all time favorite pokemon and If I lived in the Pokemon world, no matter how much I like chicken, I don't think I'd be able to bring myself to eat the Blaziken line. 2.Torchick: Same reason as above 3. I wonder if their meat tastes sweet though. Might try that.
Competitively dachsbun is a good counter to koraidon, which is super ironic when you consider that the sandwhich loving lizard gets countered by the bread itself
I've never tried it before, but I hear Buffalo meat is pretty healthy and delicious, so I'd definitely eat Bouffalant. Miltank is a pretty obvious one as well.
Here's a headcanon I made up on the spot to explain the slowpoke stuff that's bordering on fanfiction with the amount of mental gymnastics I'm using: Team Rocket were selling them as a side hustle, and because they were corrupt and had friends in high places, like gyms, (like many criminal gangs do) they couldn't accurately prosecute them, so Johto made slowpoke tail eating illegal so they could get them on that. I think the Slowpoke illegal bit in Johto is cause Team Rocket was cutting them off and not letting the tails fall off naturally. So it'd probably be considered abuse
I’d eat the Pokémon who have real life equivalents. Tauros and Miltank would be beef. Torchic and Combusken for chicken. Pork also has Tepig but also the Lechonk line. Not Blaziken tho… mainly because I don’t think people would survive trying to hunt it. I don’t buy there isn’t much meat on Magikarp tbh but the next best option is Feebass. Pretty much all the fish Pokémon would be fair game as long as they’re not poison or maybe ground type. Then you also have crustaceans like Klaff and mollusks like Octillery. Lastly any of the food Pokémon. Including fruit like Bounsweet and Cherubi. Alcreamie is a literal pastry and Dachsbun is bread. You’d want the weak Pokémon tho. So I wouldn’t try grilling up a Gyarados or Emboar. As strong as Tauros and Miltank are, they’re easy to herd as there’s ranches with at least Miltank. Btw I don’t think Togepi isn’t an actual egg. It’s just a little guy in its shell.
Slow poke tails are not really illegal. From my understanding team rocket was harming the slow poke, forcefully cutting thier tails off to sell as food, however slowpoke tail sheds off with no pain and re grows. most people cook a sheeded off slow poke tail, it was only team rocket who was doing a crime.
Technically spice is just a chemical poison that we’ve adapted to consume it’s not actual fire but technically other Pokémon trying to eat it if it was to be spicy it would also be poisonous to them which would make all fire types of fire poison type along side dual type if they have it
Eating Pokemon that produces something edible periodically would be a terrible idea. No eating Alcreami or Clauncher/Crabominable. Neither Toadscool or Toadscruel OR Appletun. Also why eat a Torchic? It's too small and barely any meat that's why nobody cook baby chicks irl.
Tepig is cute, so I couldn’t eat it, but pignite, easily, I don’t like pignite so yeah, and emboar, eh, it’s shiny is the reason I don’t completely hate it
hold on, just because a pokemon if fire type doesnt mean their meat will be spicy. further more, they are fire resistant, meaning they need some insane temperature in order to get cooked
I'd try Kantonian Farfetch'd since it literally comes with a leek attached and can't evolve anyway, so it's not like I'm doing a disservice by eating it. I'd also eat Unovan Basculin since no one likes them and they have an overpopulation problem.
magikarp are karps...which is what a goldfish also are, and well goldfish can get pretty big just people who used to have a goldfish never raised their goldfish to adult size
