    FYI, With vehicle electrics, you should always disconnect the earth first (black cable) and re connect last….just saying…enjoying the content tho, keep it up

      Whilst I’m no expert, I’m pretty sure we did connect the black last.

    An easy refinement would be be an in-line fuse and an isolator switch. A lot of people make the cabling to the inverter too thin, thus creating a fire risk from the thin wires carrying too much current.

    How have i only just found your channel?
    I've been watching vanlife vids for YEARS hoping against hope that I'd be able to do it one day... Now that one day is here, and i'm finding it hard to commit... MH or campervan? Part time or permanent? Can I REALLY do this with 4 cats??
    Great to find a UK based channel that's honest and down to earth about the realities of vanlife.

    I think you should have disconnected the -ve first on the battery, then complete +ve connections before connecting the -ve. There was a good chance of you shorting the battery to earth⚡ when connecting the +ve with the metal spanner.
    Apart from that a good vid.

    From a fully charged leisure battery without engine running or EHU.. how long will it charge your eco flow from the inverter before it kills the battery? Probably one for Mr WB 😉

    I have a 5k inverter generator sine quiet for hookup]
    . I do understand that some sites don’t allow gens so I will be getting an inverter as I’ve got three leisure batts pinned to a 150w panel

    ola Kat and Mr Wandering Bird . you were having far too much fun fitting that new inverter but I'd just like to ask, I'm sure you have one of the power bank things and I'm wondering, for folk how have the ecoflow/jackory power banks would they need an inverter? I do have one but Ive never used it. I think mine is only 500 watts. I was always afraid it would drain my batteries which because of my limited budget were two 130 ah lead acid batteries. obviously the way to go is lithium and ecoflow if ever I can afford it. great video. bessy regs-Kenny

      Great question Kenny. Answer is no. Tbh, I mainly use my inverter to recharge my Ecoflow 😬 I use my Ecoflow much more.

    If your going to power electronics make sure its sure sine wave & not modified wave.

    • @WanderingBird
      @WanderingBird  Год назад

      Yep- it’s a pure sine. Not all electronics need it but sensitive ones do

    the maximum current that 2000w inverter can draw is 166 amps I hope you checked to see if if your leisure battery can discharge at that rate, also id recommend fitting and inline fuse at the leisure battery end

    I have a K KRIËGER 1500 Watts Power Inverter 12V to 230V, Modified Sine Wave would this be okay to use a hair dryer? Also do inverters damage the leisure battery? Thank you i am a total beginner

  • @NorthS1
    @NorthS1 Год назад

    Hi Kat, why not charge your powerbank (ecoflow) direct from a 12v supply? Looks like you are converting 12v from your leisure battery to 240v via the inverter, then charging your powerbank (ecoflow) from 240v. Your powerbank (ecoflow) can charge from 12v direct. The way you are charging the powerbank (ecoflow) appears to be inefficient. Cheers.

    • @WanderingBird
      @WanderingBird  Год назад

      Whilst I don’t disagree with the inefficiency, the inverter is there to charge/ power things other than the Ecoflow- laptop, drone batteries etc. Also, the Ecoflow takes a long time to charge over 12v! Inverter is much quicker.

    I've been looking for a YT channel that gives us tips and cooking in a motorhome ..with a small fridge and only limited cooking facilities it must take a good deal of imagination .. I wonder whether you could make some videos of that or at least include cooking in your vids? Bet your vids would go sky high, look at the number of hits on most cooking vids.

    Sorry kat - is your leisure battery under your passenger seat? It’s probably obvious with Mr WB being at the door. It’s just that’s not where my leisure battery is in my 685. Or is it!!!! Need to go check now.

  • @TheGazzadj

    So I am guessing the solar panels go to the invertor or or you using an EHU?? Then you can power slightly power hungry items in your MH? I am correct in my thoughts please?

    • @WanderingBird
      @WanderingBird  Год назад

      The solar recharges the leisure battery. The inverter uses the power in the leisure battery and can only power certain things- based on how big the inverter is.

    Is there a way to connect the inverter to the 240 sockets built into the Motorhome (so I can switch between mains or inverter) Thank you Great channel

    • @nigel8712
      @nigel8712 Год назад

      Check out LeisureBit vlog on fitting an auto changeover switch. Also, his (David) channel has a series on his MH electrics and how he changed to lithiumn and installed an inverter.

    • @CliffordDive
      @CliffordDive Год назад

      Yes - but!!! You need a changeover switch to allow the sockets to be fed either from inverter or shore-power. Some inverters have this built in (Renogy and Victron I know about). But you also have to think about other items that can be mains fed - fridge, boiler and maybe the already fitted battery charger. You need to ensure those things are not powered by the inverter but can be powered by shore power. It's not too difficult to do this if you're designing from a clean sheet, but more tricky if you're upgrading an existing van. So as I said, yes but!

    • @mcjjordan
      @mcjjordan Год назад +1

      @@CliffordDive but then you also feed the charger than charges the 12v which the inverters running off- although you can get an all in one unit if building from scratch
