Not giving consent is good as well, but I would alter the statement to say "no officer I never consent to searches" Although similar, if it ends up in court it can be used to refute any assertion that there may have been a specific reason why you didnt want them to search. although im an attorney, I would never tell a cop im an attorney lol... even in my case, its best to not give the cop something to power trip over.

Im so happy you made this. The police stole my car too. I was a college student at the time and with no money to take it out of the impound. No charges were filed against me.
What's even more disgusting is when you consider how willing a cop is to steal from you with so little personal gain. Most amounts taken in civil asset forfeitures are relatively small, and that small amount doesn't even directly go to the cop who stole it from you. It goes into things like retirement plans or equipment. That money is spread among the entire force, so out of the few hundred dollars of property the cop seized from you, they may only receive few dozen bucks. Think about that. A cop is will to steal hundreds of dollars from you for pennies back to themselves. Your rights are only worth $30 to them.
The cops know civil asset forfeiture is wrong, and they don't have to do it, but many choose to still do so. That shows you what kind of people are doing police work. They're as bad as career criminals.

3 CORE IDEAS The goal is preventing crime, not catching criminals. If the police stop crime before it happens, we don’t have to punish citizens or suppress their rights. An effective police department doesn’t have high arrest stats; its community has low crime rates. The key to preventing crime is earning public support. Every community member must share the responsibility of preventing crime, as if they were all volunteer members of the force. They will only accept this responsibility if the community supports and trusts the police. The police earn public support by respecting community principles. Winning public approval requires hard work to build reputation: enforcing the laws impartially, hiring officers who represent and understand the community, and using force only as a last resort.

I have firsthand knowledge of this from my days as a journalist that gave me access to the inner workings of sheriff and police departments and from experience of being set up by crooked officers on felony charges during the early ‘90s, charges that still are being used against me now with more seizures of personal property that has me involved in a new legal battle with another felony charge against me that is still being dragged on even though it was completely legal for me to posses the property in question until my state government changed its mind and quietly made it illegal. Ex cop here (but not from USA). In my country it's similar but different. If a property is suspected to be bought with money originated by a crime it can be taken by the COUNTRY. But only if the owner of said property is convicted of said crime and if it can be proven that the owner bought it with profits from said crime. In case of drug dealing, everything is detained - unless said owner can prove the money didn't come from the crime. AKA - suspicion is not enough, the owner has to be guilty of said crime first, only after that property can be detained. + It is taken by the country. The money from the auction is taken by the country, and the country gives some of it to the police force budget. Welp luckily we have a large portion of the US population who has been deceived into believing policing is a good thing and that supporting it is show of patriotism.
Unfortunately most people think that police officers are the only officers. In the US, corporate officers are above the law as well. Thank the 14th amendment and corporatism.
Once the police are stripped of their rights, the corporate officers will take up the power.
Same shit, different people at the top of the hierarchy.
I had to stop after the first story. The abuse of power, the fact that it's legal, and that the officer took it from a regular everyday person just too much for me to stomach. I never knew I would get so triggered. I guess different people are triggered by different things.

People have an idea of what a cop is that is entirely removed from reality. People think a cop is some hero of justice, who protects the weak. When in reality, that's literally not even part of their job. A cop is not even legally required to protect someone being hurt in front of them. Their job is law enforcement. Which is a feel good way of saying that their job is to follow whatever politicians tell them. Everyone and their mother will recognize that politicians are some of the worst people on earth, yet will not extend that animosity towards police, who literally exist to follow politicians' commands. "Just doing their job."
There may be individual officers who have protected the weak on occasion, done some good for the world. But they're good in spite of their job, not because of it. The basis of a modern police service are the Peelian Principles-
The basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder
The ability of the police to perform their duties is dependent upon public approval of police actions
Police must secure the willing co-operation of the public in voluntary observance of the law to be able to secure and maintain the respect of the public
The degree of co-operation of the public that can be secured diminishes proportionately to the necessity of the use of physical force
Police seek and preserve public favour not by pandering to public opinion but by constantly demonstrating absolute impartial service to the law
Police use physical force to the extent necessary to secure observance of the law or to restore order only when the exercise of persuasion, advice and warning is found to be insufficient
Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence
Police should always direct their action strictly towards their functions and never appear to usurp the powers of the judiciary
The test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with it
3 CORE IDEAS
The goal is preventing crime, not catching criminals.
@@markbenjamin1703 "The goal is preventing crime, not catching criminals. If the police stop crime before it happens..." sounds like some precrime dystopian idea.

@@memenadekhanh3992 "If the police stop crime before it happens" So a crime didn't happen, not even a conspiracy to do something, just that NO crime ever happened. Thus they are stopping legal action. So if your legal actions constitute stopping in the name of preventing crime, all of your legal actions are criminal, thus everyone is a criminal. As the old saying goes: Treat everyone like an enemy, and they will become one.

One thing worth mentioning is that 5 states currently prohibit civil forfeiture and 36 others are looking to impose restrictions on the practice (it should be banned entirely). In the United States its earliest predecessors that paved the way for it we're confiscation acts passed in the civil war to enable Union troops and other federal ofederal officers to sieze the property of Southern civilians alleged to be supporting the Confederate war effort. At least one Union Congressman objected to the bills because he felt they could set the precedent for bringing cases against property thus essentially blowing a hole in the 4th Ammendment.
This sounds eerily similar to the hospitals taking custody of your kids because they know what’s best for them. If the parent objects to the care being administered by the hospital, some hospitals have been known to refuse parent’s the right the take their kids home. Maybe you can make a video on that, Jake.
How else would they maintain the large pedophile ring that is the foster care system. Nearly 100% of foster kids admit to be sexually molested in the system at some point.

Pro tip: if u are issued a citation during the stop, the officer must not keep you any longer than it takes to write the ticket (s). But if you consent to a search, it's on you. The convo leading up to the request for consent usually will include questions a person will say "yes" to. This is sales 101, getting you into the pattern of yes as opposed to no. Once you receive the citation and your license back, the transaction is over and the contact is merely voluntary which means you are free to leave.
