The jump from "fictional characters from things other than video games" to (depending on whom you ask) "either historical figure or the literal son of *God"* is crazy.
Unironically Shrek sorta does have a connection to Nintendo via Universal as they own Dreamworks and the Nintendo theme park rights & Mario film rights
There are a few more non-characters who had long gaming histories who should be worthy for Smash: Sam & Max (Their point and click series of games are regarded as classics.) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (The first TMNT game was actually bundled with NES systems in Europe, and the Turtles have a long lineage of gaming history, especially with their arcade beat em ups.) Tony Hawk (Not even a fictional character, but his series of games are universally acclaimed.) Spider-Man (Long gaming history.) Batman (Batman's more earlier titles are hit and miss, but Arkham made people take licensed games more seriously.)
My suggestions for this alt universe: The los angeles dodgers: they are in every mlb the show video game and most of the time they have good ratings The auburn tigers football team: they are in a lot of ncaa football video games and they have history in both college football and ncaa football video games The denver nuggets: they are in every nba 2k video game and every nba live video game The texas tech red raiders football cheerleaders: they are in a lot of ncaa football video games and they have swagger
cool list unfortunately we may never have a 4th party character in Smash The fandom itself is very demanding with video game characters that they want to see, just imagine what would happen when they announce a movie or series character to the game...
Thanks! I dont think it will ever happen, I personally am on the same boat keeping smash bros as a celebration of gaming. Just thought it would be a cool video idea to make and thanks for watching!
@@Decyphvr No problem, great video! and thats right, I think that was Sakurai and Nintendo's idea since the creation of the first game, a celebration of video games, I don't know how or why they came to consider Golden Eye in Smash, but it just stayed that way, a consideration.
@jatlistheoctopusofficial i imagine its more because they never considered the they have to be originated from games rule and considered games with historical value like 007 or the dbz games as eligable
Well, my 2018 self said that I wanted SpongeBob in Smash, but Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl (2) happened, and now SpongeBob's got his own moveset related to Smash
Popeye only being an honorable mention is crazy, considering he was the main inspiration for Mario and Donkey Kong. Nintendo even made a Popeye arcade game, which was later ported to the NES as part of the black box collection. I’d personally also add a few more characters: -The TMNT: I’d argue the turtles are some of the most connected 4th-party characters to Nintendo. They have a ton of iconic games on the NES, SNES, and Game Boy. Turtles in Time was huge on the SNES and is often considered one of the best beat-’em-up games of all time. -Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck: The Looney Tunes have a rich history with Nintendo since the NES era. Their slapstick, chaotic energy, and cast of wacky characters fit perfectly with Smash and Nintendo’s overall style. Honestly, it’s clear that Nintendo was influenced by the Looney Tunes in some ways, especially with some of their slapstick humor and character designs. -Snoopy: Snoopy has had a fair number of games on Nintendo consoles, and some Game & Watch titles. Snoopy is also kinda huge in Japan, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it had influence on EarthBound, especially given the art style similarities. In fact, some characters in the first Mother game even had to be cut because they resembled Peanuts characters too closely. -Doraemon: One of the biggest Japanese icons, even appearing alongside Mario during the Tokyo 2020 presentation of the Rio 2016 closing ceremony. The series also has a good amount of games on Nintendo hardware.
I may have to make a part 2 to this video, I wasn't expecting the video to do this well seeing as im such a small channel lol. I have more ideas in mind too, I will likely take alot of comment suggestions aswell!
Very fun idea to kinda do smash vs other characters that arent necessarily video game characters. Maybe a smash vs marvel could be acceptable for example. Nintendo can definitely make other fictional characters work for smash, just make it distinct that they aren't game characters
my suggestions for this alt universe: Optimus Prime: has multiple games on Nintendo hardware (the Movie tie-in games, Mystery of Convoy, Transformers Animated: The Game on DS, WFC: Cybertron Adventures, and even apperance in a Smash-like game in DreamMix TV World Fighters), there's even a RID 2015 event in Splatoon. He's not as popular in japan, but neither is Sonic soooo Spider-Man: Capcom has close ties with Marvel via Marvel Vs. Capcom, Nintendo has close ties with Capcom since the NES days. Also the various Spider-Man games on Nintendo hardware... Just don't inlude an Insomniac alt costume as much as fans would go nuts for it Gumball: no good reason, i just want Gumball in Smash lol
Some of the early splatfest in Splatoon 1 and 2 had a few themes based off franchises outside of Nintendo like SpongeBob and Transformers. This could give us a bit more of a clue on what 4th party characters could be in smash.
You know what I find funny about the whole "no non video game characters" thing? Nintendo was founded severas décades before video games were INVENTED and was over 80 years old by the time they started making theme themselves yet apparently all the stuff they made before that isn't even worth a mention.
I would add Strider Hiryu and Turok to the list since just like Geralt from Witcher, they are more known for their game appearances than their Manga or Comic appearances.
Guys, the word "4th party" doesn't exist. All the characters are third party, no matter where they come from. Heck, there are non-gaming Nintendo characters (like Nester!)
Well we could still get fourth party characters but here my idea for it Just have them use the video game version of that character Like say Spider Man we could get Insomniac's version of the web head
I originally had insomniacs Spider Man in the honourable mentions, but I cut him bc insomniacs spiderman had no Nintendo connection. I would have also included Arkham Batman but didnt plan it originally.
Yeah, or give them moves purely based on their video games, like giving Spongebob that bowling ball bubble from the Movie game and BFBB as a side special or something.
4:58 on the idea of "Micky for smash" ever since other companies have been making platform fighters like smash(like muitverses and nicktoons all-star brawl), I have been hoping/wishing Disney would try a hand at one just so we can get fun movesets based on Disney characters like goofy, or buzz lightyear I think disney has a good chance with that at least it be worth a shot- I mean I would play
Persona actually did have an appearance on nintendo before joker came out, BBTAG was on the switch and had persona 4 arena chracters in the roster as much of a stretch as that is, I could definitely see that being the justification for it
I wish I live in the timeline where 007 was in Melee otherwise the newest Smash game would have legends like Spider-Man, Jesse Pinkman, Don Draper, Scott Pilgrim, Ben 10, King Aragorn, Wow Wow Wubbzy, Mr. Frog, The Verminator, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Tim & Moby, Light Yagami, Chavo Del Ocho, Rorschach, The Angry Video Game Nerd, Yukon Cornelius, The Energizer Bunny, Mike Wazowski, Wallace & Gromit, Ash Williams, The Mad Hatter, Jerma, Abed Nadir, My Chemical Romance, SCP-049, Paul Atreides, The Grinch, Steve-O, El Santo, Pepsi Man, and Chowder!
Cal Kestis from Jedi fallen order would be the perfect Star Wars pick as he originated from a game, and has by far the most moveset potential as he can use 4 different lightsaber forms, and on top of that he has loads of outfits and lightsaber colours that would be perfect for alts, and BD1 would make for some great taunts.
While Mickey, Godzilla and Popeye are defitinely on my list (Agumon too but I actually count him as a third party), there was only one character missing... Spider-Man And tbh... I can understand why since he has more connections to Playstation than Nintendo. And my only reasons for him outside of being one of my all time favorite characters, is just how recognizable he is and how fun his moveset would be. Spidey feels like a character that would be right at home in a game like Smash. From his quick but powerful blows, his agile movements, his web swinging, wall crawling and his Spider sense. Plus his alts could literally be alternate costumes from his huge gallery of suits. Like the Black Suit, Spider Armor, Iron Spider, Scarlet Spider etc
From what I’ve heard, Disney is pretty picky with how Mickey Mouse characters can be depicted, especially in combat. The reason that Kingdom Hearts’ combat is the way it is, is because Disney didn’t want Mickey characters being realistically stabbed or slashed or hit with an explosive etc. That’s also why Donald and Goofy aren’t in the Sephiroth fight. So Mickey Mouse has a next to zero chance in a game like Smash.
I like this list, but I feel like one major character is missing- a public domain character. Think about it- Sakurai has always liked innovating with movesets, and making things up. He’s been doing that since Smash 64, with Fox and Falcon. This character’s entire moveset could be made up, due to having zero limitations on them. They would also be recognizable to nearly everybody, as they’ve probably appeared in tons and tons of games already, due to not having the need to license them. This extends to Nintendo- they get one of the most iconic characters ever for free! My personal pick for this slot would be Dracula, due to his heavy connections to video games, large moveset potential, and long-standing popularity. You can even give him a skin that references Castlevania’s Dracula in Ultimate!
Imagi e the joke characters from this universe, i talked with erin hunter to add jayfeather, i talked with adult swin to add the fish from american dad, i talked with my biss aboug how he is becoming p,ayable in smash, and u added the landlord that mario was named after to smash
Yep, as far back as Brawl with Snake! I think the biggest issue with James Bond though would have been getting the likeness of one of the actors who played the character.
I'm surprised you didn't mention someone from Star Wars. LucasArts before they got folded by Disney had a great relationship with Nintendo consoles, some of the biggest exclusives being: Super Star War games, Rogue Squadron and Shadows of the Empire. I would also say Batman (Based on his Arkham appearance) Tron, and TMNT would be nice contenders for 4th Party reps.
I actually enjoyed this video; These characters indeed would be excellent fourth party characters. Now if I were to add 7 more fourth party characters then they would be: Lightning McQueen Shrek Batman Thomas the tank engine Bugs Bunny Spider-Man And Moses
Tbh they’d probably do like a Japanese mascot since typically Japanese series cross over with mascots (think Kumamon in Yo-Kai Watch) so maybe there would be a 4th Party spirit to represent the Olympics.
Tyrone Biggums In Super Smash Bros. Brawl would be the most Hilarious guest fighter In all of gaming culture he was In SNL Twice you hear me Twice MGM, Paramount Global can't be too stingy If you can't take a joke then watch Chappelle's Show then
I don't believe Godzilla has had any games on the Switch. As far as i know, the last Godzilla game released on a Nintendo console was Godzilla: Unleashed back on the Wii.
Y'know if the character has to be from a video game theres a loophole for dragon ball. Just add android 21 into smash since she's a videogame original for dbfz
If this happened I would DEFINITELY add a Lego character. Not so much for gameplay but more because the Lego games are super iconic and beloved, and have a long history (older than Smash 64). Maybe Emmet would be a good pick?
@@DecyphvrHe'd absolutely be great fit, but I thought considering the whole theme of this video I might as well choose one of the more widespread Lego characters. And to be fair the most famous Lego character would probably be Lego Yoda or someone like that, but at that point just add normal Yoda lol
Godzilla and Son Goku are two of my wants in the smash roster lol the only problem about these two are they are hard to aquire except for Godzilla because Im starting to see more Toho Godzilla collabs but for Goku rarely have I ever seen Dragon ball collab with any games well except for Fortnite and Pubg for some reason if these actually gets in smash everything changes.
Imo, third parties for a game that’s souley about video game characters, that works better for PlayStation imo, I’m saying if there was a PlayStation all stars sequel, characters like Spiderman or the Arkham knight fit All though I genuinely do think Geralt should be in smash tho lol
I would add a Wanner Bros character(And no Harry Potter doesn't count) I'm thinking more Bugs Bunny, Batman, Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, Ben 10, Powerpuff Girls, Finn and Jake etc
JK Rowling was smart and made a deal with Warner, which gives her more control over her own IP. Warner owns the rights to the movie, but Rowling owns the characters themselves.
Listen, I’ll say this- I’ll stand by it that it just would seem not right, and just impure for 4th parties to get in, at this point anyway, so it oughta not happen. BUT hey, IF the DID happen, then at LEAST, suddenly, Hatsune Miku could get in, and at least that’d be good by me.
I agree with you, it would not feel right at all lol, but after Ultimate the innovation runs slim for a next installment. Realistically to me the next step would be cutting the roster and giving as many characters the Fighter Pass DLC level of treatment. As cool as having non game characters in Smash would be, I doubt it would even happen in a reboot or next installment Miku would be an interesting character to have tho ngl
@Decyphvr and ofc, I say her specifically because, and this was in my mind while thinking, I just completely forgot to type it, as far as I’d be concerned (well, it wouldn’t be happening at ALL, but if we’re talking hypotheticals and it was gonna happen, then), it WOULD still have to be characters that DO still have prominent vg series, like goku or spider man or whatever, so ofc Miku’s my first in line since she fits the bill still
I think this would just open up to a whole can of worms. Smash would go from a celebration of video games to being an internet meme with no identity. With that being said, your picks here were pretty cool and well thought out in theory. I do think Geralt could still make it in smash becouse the games has far outgrown the books and the games are also loosely based on the books. Enough to where the games follows it's own story. There are also other smash characters that has taken inspiration from stories and other characters that isn't from a video game. He is a big enough gaming icon to make it in smash i think. Agumon is also very tricky. They could add him if they really wanted, as Digimon was originally a video game franchise although very loosely. But there's another problem with adding him in becouse i don't think people would really just want Agumon alone. If they were to add him, they would have to add Greymon and WarGreymon. The whole appeal of Digimon is being able to digivolve, otherwise there's no point adding him. Unlike Pokemon, Digimon can turn back into their lesser forms. That would mean Smash would have to create 3 characters, in order to add in Agumon. Who is already a pretty niche pick. I just don't see them go through so much trouble to have Agumon in the game.
Im glad you thought my picks were pretty cool and well thought out! Im happy Smash didn't go down that route, but im a little bummed we didn't get Donald or Goofy with Sora. Out of any of them, Geralt for sure has the best shot, and maybe Agumon due to being more "gamey" but not as popular ofc
I agree! Smash Ultimate was his Magnum Opus, so I doubt it can be topped. I love what Sakurai has done, but I am intruiged to see what will happen if someone else takes the helm.
Sherlock Holmes and Jesus Christ for Smash
I love how you went from a fictional detective to the son of god himself
Jesus is like a 5th party
This man trying to stirr the pot with this one
The jump from "fictional characters from things other than video games" to (depending on whom you ask) "either historical figure or the literal son of *God"* is crazy.
Sherlock Holmes would be kinda awesome
It would be hilarious if Mickey's final smash was calling the main character of every IP Disney owns just so they can run over his opponent
And call it "Disney Masturbation"
kinda like Mega Man's Final Smash
being real tho it would probably be an attack related to Fantasia's Sorcerer's Apprentice
Unironically Shrek sorta does have a connection to Nintendo via Universal as they own Dreamworks and the Nintendo theme park rights & Mario film rights
I completely forgot about the Nintendo theme parks lol
Also, Shrek DOES have a his own "Smash" Knock off. Even has a community after it was ran as a joke only for Tech to be found.
Well it’s more of a power stone clone than smash
If there was a crossover game franchise to do it, it would be Smash
Soul Caliber, Mortal Kombat, Tekken etc
fortnite

Where's Santa on this list
Peter griffin 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Lowkey, what does "4th party" even mean?
Edit: Oh licensed
Y'know if the character has to be from a video game theres a loophole for dragon ball. Just add android 21 into smash since she's a videogame original for dbfz
If this happened I would DEFINITELY add a Lego character. Not so much for gameplay but more because the Lego games are super iconic and beloved, and have a long history (older than Smash 64). Maybe Emmet would be a good pick?
Chase McCain would be cool! He is a Lego video game character by definition, so it would likely fit better than Emmet.
Having to put a disclaimer on this is so stupid
an interesting topic from a small youtuber? lovely!
I am glad you liked my idea! Thanks for watching!
Imo, third parties for a game that’s souley about video game characters, that works better for PlayStation imo, I’m saying if there was a PlayStation all stars sequel, characters like Spiderman or the Arkham knight fit
All though I genuinely do think Geralt should be in smash tho lol
Transformers for Smash Bros
Agumon Is Made By Bandai Namco?
Like Gundam Is Made By Sunrise Or Bandai Namco???
I would love Godzilla to be in smash (never gonna happen tho)
That or a new pipeworks style game (if you know you know)
Now do what of Playstation characters got in Smash Bros
I would add a Wanner Bros character(And no Harry Potter doesn't count) I'm thinking more Bugs Bunny, Batman, Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, Ben 10, Powerpuff Girls, Finn and Jake etc
Why would Harry Potter not count?
@averelldalton7964 It's complicated Wanner only owns Harry's movie rights
JK Rowling was smart and made a deal with Warner, which gives her more control over her own IP. Warner owns the rights to the movie, but Rowling owns the characters themselves.
decy should be in smash
Lol im flattered
I want Sailor Moon for smash. But it ain’t possible. 😢
Can you add link characters
Do you mean characters I think should be added to Smash Bros from the Legend of Zelda?
?
Listen, I’ll say this- I’ll stand by it that it just would seem not right, and just impure for 4th parties to get in, at this point anyway, so it oughta not happen.
BUT hey, IF the DID happen, then at LEAST, suddenly, Hatsune Miku could get in, and at least that’d be good by me.
I agree with you, it would not feel right at all lol, but after Ultimate the innovation runs slim for a next installment. Realistically to me the next step would be cutting the roster and giving as many characters the Fighter Pass DLC level of treatment.
As cool as having non game characters in Smash would be, I doubt it would even happen in a reboot or next installment
Miku would be an interesting character to have tho ngl
@Decyphvr and ofc, I say her specifically because, and this was in my mind while thinking, I just completely forgot to type it, as far as I’d be concerned (well, it wouldn’t be happening at ALL, but if we’re talking hypotheticals and it was gonna happen, then), it WOULD still have to be characters that DO still have prominent vg series, like goku or spider man or whatever, so ofc Miku’s my first in line since she fits the bill still
No Darth Vader?
Batman and superman for smash
Sam & Max
Hatsune Miku
Bugs Bunny
Spider-Man
I think this would just open up to a whole can of worms.
I hope the next smash isn’t made by sakurai
I agree! Smash Ultimate was his Magnum Opus, so I doubt it can be topped. I love what Sakurai has done, but I am intruiged to see what will happen if someone else takes the helm.
tf is a fourth party
