A question Tim please. My earth situation is almost identical to that which you describe although I do not have a metal plate under the equipment. Each of my 2 inch earth straps go directly (and independently) from each piece of equipment to the massive RF busbar. One end of the busbar goes outside and is welded to two x 10 foot copper rods sunk 9 foot into the ground. However, the household 240 volt mains supply uses an earth system provided my the supplier. The installer of my 240v mains supply (live, neutral and earth) therefore connected the busbar to the internal mains supply earth - without doing this he was unable to provide me a certification that all was safe.
Now the reality is that the earth from the main suppliers 'may' not be equal to the earth provided from my garden via the copper rods. What is the recommendation? Leave the mains supply earth and the copper rod earth both connected to the busbar - or disconnect the 240v main earth from the RF busbar so they are independent?
The equipment remains earthed via the 240v mains outlet and also by the earthing strap system via the busbar to the copper rods but there could be a differential between them. No-one has been able to provide an answer yet so any thoughts welcome. Cheers Keith 2E0WEK
