Yes I agree, blinding buying fragrances that are not always in stores or are only online give you a rush of excitement when they arrive in the post. It's very addictive and expensive but not the best thing to do🤔😊 I'm very guilty too🙈
I'm exactly the same regarding blind buying, I blind buy almost all of my perfumes and I very rarely come across a genuine miss. It's just a special kind of excitement!
Guilty 😂. 80% of my perfumes are blind buys, and really very few that I did not like, I was lucky people from my family loved them and I could gift them. My most expensive blind buy was Lilac Path from Aerin, and fortunately I loveeee it, such a realistic lilac smell without it being the sole note. Love your videos😁. And subscribed.
Omg, I have the same reaction to BR540 and all its dupes (even far-off dupes!). I was trying to figure out what note it was that made it smell like an apothecary to me and candy airy sweet to everyone else (was thinking maybe saffron), did not realize that it was synthetic oak moss. Thank you!
I was so glad to see a new video! I so agree; our preferences are just our taste. I also think our individual history of the styles of perfumes we trained our early noses on may have some bearing. For instance, I wore mostly chypre perfumes growing up and my signature from about 1980 on was, and still is Mitsouko. I so love this perfume and it's funny because I had to finally buy a full bottle of Jubilation 25 after buying many sample vials because it was such a gorgeous chypre to my nose. I do not find it all that similar to Mitsouko, but it does smell exactly as you describe it. It is complex as most older classic chypres are. I think they do smell vintage to younger generations especially because due to IFRA regulations, they simply will no longer be made like they once were, except I guess by niche houses. Because of this I believe younger generations will not have the nose developed to think of this category of perfumes in the older, classic style, as relevant perhaps? They use the derogatory term, "Old Lady", ugh, that must be me, hahaha!
Taste can change with time, so I'll keep Jubilation in my collection and will be back to it from time to time. Maybe one day I'll fall in love with it! ❤️💐
💯 totally agree with all my heart. Vintage formulated perfumes are very much more unique and have natural ingredients that you can not find in todays most expensive niche perfumes.
That term, "old lady" for describing a fragrance, gets this old lady's hackles up. My husband tells me that he's going to buy me a "Get Off My Lawn" T-shirt. 😉
My top 3 disappointments: 1. Bond Eau de Noho that smells like the spray I used to kill wasps with. 2. Guerlain Jardins de Bagatelle. It does not smell like a white floral but like a spring beverage with dandelion 3. Widian Hili - a lovely scent otherwise, BUT the coconut is exactly like in the cheapest car diffusers, which I don’t just hate but it reminds me of motion sickness and gives me headache
I'm the same way, I love the thrill of blind buying but I don't usually spend a lot. I've also started selling unwanted blind buys on Mercari so I think I will continue but I have recently been restraining myself some.
I have never related to anything more than your description of why you blind buy fragrances. 100%. I only started exploring fragrance a year ago and only have 9 so far, but I love them. 5 were blind buys. When I order a perfume I've tested, I'm still excited, but it's not the same as waiting for a fragrance I've researched, pondered, compared, and blind bought. I try to purchase blind buys from discount retailers or Ebay so that I'm being as financially responsible as possible ;)
I am glad, someone else is also undergoing this "crazy" olfactory adventure of blind buying from time to time :-).Fortunately my intuition is strong enough to save me (in most cases) from disappointment
I also felt same way about BR540. Very medicinal. Interesting thing about BR540 is at the beginning it smelt like burnt caramel but after few months I started getting this medicinal scent.
I also bought Floral Musc but didn't know it was a Baccarat similar....was on a musc journey and wanted to explore different muscs. Didn't particularly like floral musc and it is now macerating/resting for a while and i hope I'll like it better later on. On the other hand i love Ryan from attar collection...i found many perfumes through your channel and appreciate your take on them. Thank you 🙏
Agree on Amouage Jubilation 25 and Mitsouko. I have a vintage mini Mitsouko and when Jubilation was launched in 200? I ordered a couple of samples straight from Oman. Shipping was a nightmare and did cost more than the samples themselves :) I wear them only on really formal and dressy occasions and haven't still managed to use them up.
I personally love Jubilation 25, I own it but I have to admit that it is a tricky fragrance. Depending on the weather, it comes out VERY different. I moved from California (dry and warm) to Naples Italy (humid and warm), and it was a total different experience. it is quite animalic in humid weather, I love it though but I need to be in the mood.
My blind buy regrets are: Al Haramain L'Adventure Al Haramain Junoon Noir Burberry Her Lataffa Confidential Private Gold Swiss Arabian Shaghoff Oud for women I don't own BR540 or Oud Satin Mood but sampled them. They smell terrible
I’m so happy to have found, and subscribed to your channel. I share your love of oakmoss and dislike of coconut in perfumes and so I’m very interested in your suggestions. Unfortunately in NZ we don’t have many stores to sample perfumes outside of the mainstream ones and so blind buying accounts for most of my purchases. I too, get very excited when I am expecting a parcel! Thank you for your beautifully presented content and exceptional taste ❤
I like ur inner peace Leila .. also ur beautiful blazer.. also me too sorry to buying -L'instant de Guerlain EDP, -Habit rouge EDT by Guerlain, -Un Jardin sur Le toit by Hermis , -L'envol de Cartier Parfum, -Zino Davidoff , -Kouros YSL !.. Thanks for ur review 🌹
Yes! The thrill of the hunt 😀 Thank you for sharing your disappointing fragrances; it's understandable when you run the risk of blind buying. You did a great job of articulating why they didn't work out for you. The illustration of the hospital scent about BR540 was enlightening; I can see(smell) that. As for vintage finds - have you ever tried Violet Eyes by Elizabeth Taylor? I know she doesn't get much love, but this fragrance is different that her other (Diamonds) collections. As for chypre, what do you think of Calandre by Paco Rabanne? Let me know your thoughts.
@@styledigest9819 The Violet Eyes smells like a peppery (though not listed) violet; its a very translucent white floral. If you like Perles by Lalique, I think you would like this one. As for Calandre, correction is not a chypre, it's an Floral aldehyde. I just ordered a bottle to explore it a little further. Lastly, I forgot to mention Still by Jennifer Lopez, it's a tea floral and the dry down is so smooth. It creates that bubble around like you say. Keep us posted of your findings!
I had the same reaction with jubilation 25. I saw a review where this was mentioned of too much of the old time. So I backed away from it The men’s version I love and would wear and love it. But not the woman version of jubilation 25. And Bacarat 540 you love or hate it. I love the extrait version more. But don’t wear it much. Thank you for this review, it shows that you have to do ground work before you buy even if you blind buy 😅
I would add to your list, Venetian Bergamot by Tom Ford. Absolutely terrible performance, considering the price, I goofed again with Auster by Electimuss, as I tired of the scent almost overnight. Although performance is not an issue with Auster - it's an absolute beast.
I completely agree on Overture 😂. So well said. I couldn’t fire out what was happening with it. I do have Jubilation 25 that I occasionally wear - it’s really an experience.
I really thought I'm only one who is not a fan of Baccarat Rouge. I don't feel hospital but it's just overrated for me. I seen some perfumes that smell similar but are better and cheaper.
Xerjoff Ouverture big disappointment for me as well! I thought it was me because of all the great reviews on this one fragrance. Glad to see you are agree with me.
I blind buy too, all my latest fragrances for 2 years - some great new finds, some inbetween - only a few misses. That excitement with unwrapping, before the first sniff... I can't even wait until I'm indoors; I have foldable scissors to unwrap IMMEDIATELY!!!! 😂😂
Totally agree re the Xerjoff. Xerjoff is a weird brand. They have utterly sensational ingredients and the power and projection is usually great in all of their items, but still, definitely not my cup of tea at all. Alexander II is bizarre. Sure, authentically woodsy but um, just strange - clean like fresh white wood shavings... ...and that's it, that's all, except 'white wood on steroids' though!
I generally buy blindly as well, however I do generally research them quite in depth first and have a pretty good idea if I will like them or not. All of my researched blind buys have been successful. The only ones that have been unsuccessful for me are buying completely blind in store (no research) where I can't test, or buying something cheaply as an add on without research. I have only done that a few times though and don't anymore. Blind buying is so much more fun and the anticipation is more enjoyable when you are waiting.
I had the same experience with Ouverture, the notes clash, it smells like someone spilled a few random different perfumes on the carpet. There was a phase when I liked the sillage of it, maybe after a few hours, I don’t remember exactly, but overall it is a mess for me too.
Just bought Jubi XXV, though a man, because of its comparison to Rojas Diaghilev. Frankly I love it! Haven’t worn in public yet but love this scent for bed.
I was excited for Amouage as well, glad I sample before full bottle, as feel exactly the same as you. and I'm a lover of vintage to, but this one is to much. the oak moss there kill me.
Hi hi, have you tried Amouage Beloved? I would like to get your opinion between these Beloved and Jubilation 25. For me, these 2 feels very vintage scent, but I heard a lot of positive reviews of these. Thank you.
I sampled Khaltat Night from Attar Collection this past fall. KN was PERFECT for that time of year. The very simple notes of: Apple, Sour Cherry, Cinnamon and Vanilla on a clean and long lasting White Musk base, was festive, warm and cozy. I bought an FB. Though, I must admit, had I not sampled first, I wouldn't have taken the plunge. I then turned right around and bought an FB of Hayati, also from Attar Collection without sampling first. I learned that I despise Passion Fruit, as a perfume note. Expensive lesson learned.
I have Khaltat Night. Most of all I like the top notes that you mentioned but unfortunately I don't quite like the musky base. It's too masculine for me. But I'm getting used to it 😊
I adore Al Rayhan by Attar Collection....and am disappointed in Floral Musk. I almost exclusively blind buy because of the country I'm living in...80% of the perfumes are a success or a like and the rest kind of meh..
I LOVE Ouverture 😭, but if you haven't already you should try Cartier La Panther Parfum as it's a gorgeous chypre and has real oak moss extract as a listed ingredient :)
Just wondering. Have you tried layering fragrances that you dislike with one you like better? I am very new to fragances but I found so many videos here on RUclips that refers to layering. I did not know it was such a thing !
MFK Oud Satin Mood is mine...although it was a gift, but I had a choice and I requested that one...the thing is I did sample it before and was underwhelmed, yet somehow forgot why i purchased Grand Soir instead of OSM. It smells like any good Middle Eastern rose/oud combo, i don't find it unique at all, and worse it really under performs on my skin. I don't get the depth, nuance, richness nor longevity that every one else seems to get. I look at it and think, why didn't I just ask for another bottle of Grand Soir 😒
Can you do a clip on your most loved fragrance or fragrances? One of my favourites is Lyric by Amouage but also love Heartless helen by Penhaligon & Back to Black by Killian
That is quit a revelation about the synthetic oak moss! I thought that this hospital amd Demtist smell must be oud or something, but it makes sense that is os the synthetic oakmoss! I need to look in to it
I agree with you on the medicinal vibe of baccarat rouge. Go and check youtuber jus de rose that compares it with tinhare from couvent des minimes a natural perfume house in France. I bought it and no medicinal vibe in it and smells absolutely like baccarat but without the medicinal smell. And very cheap by the way. So much love from my heart to yours. I am like you I love and it excites me to blind buy sometimes Could you please write the name of oakmoss that is artificial and responsible for that medicinal smell? I'll appreciate. Many blessings beautiful soul.
Mugler Angel Musc Myserieux. I bought a sample before. The bottle that arrived is a BOMB I can't wear out of consideration for others. Chopar Amber Malaki. Smelled like MAN. Gave it to a bf. Everything from Abdul samad al qurashi, particularly Safari Extreme. Which smells like an ashtray.
Yes I agree, blinding buying fragrances that are not always in stores or are only online give you a rush of excitement when they arrive in the post. It's very addictive and expensive but not the best thing to do🤔😊 I'm very guilty too🙈
I resonate so much with you regarding the note from MFK 540...the smell of iodine... hospital is so strong I cannot stand it

It’s personal taste indeed as we all get different things from the same product🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️. Stay gorgeous🥰🥰

Thanks for the review. It's true that sometimes perfume has to do with personal taste. I like how you take time in reviewing the fragrances.

It's called evernyl. But I also think that saffron can give this medicine smell when used in high concentration. BR 540 contains both of them.

Did you try HR perfumes, they are UAE nishe company
No, not yet.
Did you Test Amouage ubar?
No, I want to test Ubar and Gold somewhere or get a decant...
