I wish they kept "Be prepared" for Leona like they keep "Poor unfornate souls" for Azul. It adds a nice touch and reminder for who they were 'twisted' from. Love the video, keep up the good work!
Neji can also mean Good Friend or Bosom Friend in the Kenya main language, Swahili, where the Lion King film mostly takes place, given the event is more focused on the Disney's kid show: Lion Guard, so might be more focused on that given the Catch the Tail to Bead Brawl changes plus hinting to Scar and Zazu's relationship within that show. Some of the other choices do sound like EN is trying to keep the puns limited or more spread out than just a go-to phrase. Ironic but not shocking coming from them lol. Some of the funny irony though, I have noticed with the changes like with the event's main title. I can understand why they changed it given the closest thing to English to make sense isn't the most "family-friendly" diction. Mostly looking to the word Mina as the closest Swahili translation is pua meaning nose (pua) or good (poa) but here in US, pua is a slang for a pick up artist, unusually a male, that studies/practices ways to attract or gain sexual favors/rues from potential partners. So I can understand at least those changes. Cool to see this breakdown though. Honestly very surprised by how much the changes went even further but this was a neat watch! Excuse the ramble though, I was just having fun with this is all!XD

Neji is apparently a common name in west Africa, I mean I’ve heard people with the name. But instead of being pronounced “Nee-Gee” it’s pronounced “Neh-JZee” or “Neh-Gee”. [the JZ part is easier to show out loud then writing it down, but I tried] The beads in the hair is maybe similar to Jamil’s hair clips and bangles. I think people are too harsh with EN changes. In JP, they make it culturally accurate while adding Japanese references too. In EN, they make it culturally accurate as well, but covering a broader region. Sunset Savanna is based on the Mediterranean Basin from what I can tell. Having North African, Spanish, French, Italian, Persian, and Arab influences. Also central and south Africa. The Elephant ears is a Middle East and South Asian snack. These things may not apply everywhere, only in certain areas. But EN is a lot more thought out then it gets credit for.
Thank you, as always, for sharing these changes and going a step further to provide context and examples. The changes made for the English version truly seem to do more harm than good. While there is room for peaceful debate over more nuanced changes and liberties taken, many of the more egregious ones just create inconsistencies, erase world-building and ignore existing English statements (FAR TOO MANY characters explicitly say ‘Catch-the-Tail’ on the home-screen)
I don't think translator like to change things for the sake of changing things but rather because there is an executive order to make things different for national audiences...this happens a lot in dubbing in anime as well where things are changed because some exec said so because they think the foreign audience isn't going to get it or it may cause controversies with them.

I knew this video was on the horizon, and I was genuinely excited for it! Meanwhile I understand the association between elephants and Ivory, I don’t understand the change only because the Elephant Graveyard is a location from the Lion King movie. Why erase the reference? Though I suppose they did for most of Leona’s usage of “Be Prepared” too. I guess the English version could’ve been trying to go for something that sounded more tourist like? Doing the math, even though it was apparent that Vil was not a student yet when Leona was/when he first enrolled, I wonder why the translators make it seem like Vil was already enrolled at the same time as Leona? It was a small translation thing, and I could tell what they were trying to go for, but it can create misunderstandings, if not paying attention. If I am being honest…I had zero clue what “Elephant Ears” was prior to them coming up in the English version of this game, specifically the Halloween event, since they were mentioned there first. However, when I went to go look them up, I was told that Elephant Ears was an alternate name for Palmiers, so I guess I knew what they were after all. I just have never heard them be called Elephant Ears, so I learned something new. I wonder why, though, they didn’t translate “hot spring eggs/Onsen Eggs” as “hard-boiled eggs.“ I feel like that would be closer than “Elephant Ears.” It is honestly quite the jump from Hot Spring eggs to Elephant Ears/Palmiers. 4:59: Why must insults be inserted where there weren’t any in the original version? Oh well…
I think they should have tried to go for a closer translation in EN i honestly like the exact translations feom japanese because that feels more authentic.
Why do they always make such stupid changes? Lol. It's unnecessary and they always seem to make characters seem more antagonistic then they actually are.

I still enjoyed the event, but it is really interesting to see the differences between JP and EN. These videos help fill in the missing context.
