But I don't think it is an honorable thing to dismiss the batsman before the ball is bowled. Good!! Very good!! Harsha and the other one said it "Perfectly". We live in the 21st century. Laws are laws now, they need to be clearly followed. Crease is there for a reason!! U screw around with that, u pay the price.
I have a super simple solution to it. I think the rule can be changed to the batsmen can't leave till the front foot of bowler touches the ground (which is as such checked for no ball). So, now that the tv umpire checks no ball. If at the same moment the batsmen is out of his crease it should be declared short run. This would solve both the problem. 1) the advantage of batsmen will be taken away 2) it will make it clear when a bowler can runout on non striker end. What are your thoughts mr. Bhogle and mr. Bhattacharya? Btw it was one of the best discussions i have heard about mankading.
Harsha does not have a problem with a bowler performing a mankad but has a problem with the name, why does he not want this to be called mankad if there is nothing wrong with it? Seems to me that deep down he knows that mankading is not right which is why he does not want the name of a former Indian cricketer associated with it.
Tomorrow someone might say that it's cheating that the bolwler bowls the ball with the intention of getting the batsman out but the batsman hit him for a six.
same way bowler bowling cutters, slower ones , Knuckle ball sand other variations should be called unfair ...this game is all about deceiving each other within cricketing law
I think the reason why “mankading” is frowned upon is because the bowler isn’t really putting in effort to earn the wicket. For example, it would require much more effort to actually bowl to a batsmen and get him out that way. Where as mankading the batsmen requires almost no effort and therefore ones not ‘truly’ earning the wicket, its just due to the fault of the batsmen. But it all comes down to the fact that its a law within the game, and laws are put in place for a reason.
1) arent all wickets due to the fault of the batsman? 2) many times bowler bowls a very poor delivery but because of batsman's fault or ground's dimensions or even wind direction it ends up in the hands of fielder near boundary, would you also call that unfair and bowler not 'deserving the wicket' since that could have gone for a boundary any other day
Calling one short is a great idea, but I don't think a run should be taken off if a boundary is hit since that doesn't depend on how far the batsmen run
Can we name it after 'Tipu' .. Great underaged Batsman who got run out in similar way, during British era playing along with greatest all rounder ever 'Bhuvan'..
Field restrictions have changed through the years. The number of bouncers per over have reduced, yet batsman can play any odd shot they want, switch-hit, scoop, whatever. The free hit rule was introduced, to penalise the bowler. If I'm not mistaken, the new ball is being taken sooner than before, so excessive reverse swing is also out of the equation. So one rule, which is in the bowler's favour, people are crying foul. I won't be surprised if in a few years time, a free hit will be declared for a wide ball.
Would a run penalty not be better for the game instead of the batsmen being out? That way the batsmen is encouraged to remain in his crease and the spectacle of the match is not ruined
@@juliancollins8162 I don't see the reason for it to be changed. Weather the spectacle of the match is ruined or not is subjective. And I think the biggest encouragement for the batter to remain in his/her crease should be the fear of losing their wicket. I feel the bigger picture is that it has been a batsman dominated game, and let's not make the game easier for them, or at least give the bowlers something.
@@pratiknarayanan6586 I believe it should be changed because I watch cricket to see the high level skills of the batsmen and the bowlers, a mankad does not involve any skill. All it would take would be a two run penalty given for a batsman leaving his crease early and then he would lose more than he would gain from leaving his crease early to pinch an extra run. The third umpire will be checking every ball for a no ball in the ipl this year so as part of that check he could also check whether the batsman is out his crease. This would stop the batsmen trying to gain an unfair advantage and also not bring the controversy a mankad does.
@@juliancollins8162 I do see your point. But in last year's IPL, I don't think they checked every ball. It was either the ones they weren't sure of, and the ones where a wicket has fallen. But if there is a system, that could check every ball, without fail, and not using any time, then maybe. But as of now, it seems impractical because even with all this technology, umpires don't pick all the no balls, and a batsman out of his crease is much more common. But still, if rules could be changed, then the bouncer rule should change, the beamer rule should change. To make things even for both parties. Till then, let it be.
Having looked online a lot for history and incidents of Mankading and it's interesting as to who has what opinion. I believe this may be due to the approach to the game depending on what part of the world people are from. It does appear that the vast majority of those actually doing it (and supporting it) are from India, or of Indian descent/origin, while there appear to be very few recorded incidences of it from elsewhere, strongly suggesting it's seen in India as a more legitimate and encouraged thing to do. Those involved in this debate, while being hugely biased aren't neccesarily wrong - certainly not in the laws of the game. That being said it's a scurrilous thing to do, BUT there HAS to be something in place to stop batsmen taking an unfair advantage too. The suggestion of calling 'one short' seems to be a very good one here. For me it achieves the aim instantly, without causing negative controversy and bad feeling in the game. Cricket is a bigger thing and doesn't need this kind of incident ruining it, whichever side of the fence we're on.
The counter to the point and observation is that most of the people getting run out seem to be from anglo or white descent who observed the fact that this against the spirit of the game based on the incident with Brown and Mankad in Australia. The vilification of Mankad by the Australian press seems to have impressed on the anglo world that it's not okay to do this. Those who are saying that this is against the spirit of the game being hugely biased against saying that this against the spirit. The other observation is that potentially players of Indian origin or descent don't leave their crease. It goes both ways, and if you take the bias out of the Brown Mankad incident you will see this this is okay.
Wish cricketers outside sub-continent watch this video and get some revelation. If you long to continue in their blind folds, let them continue. We can watch and enjoy more of not a controversy as still controversy.
I think that Harsha and a lot of other Indians are misunderstanding the view of players and fans who are not in favour of the Mankad. Mankad is allowed in the laws of the game which is why players like Anderson are calling for the rules to be changed, they do not want the rules to change so that the batsmen are able to gain an advantage. They believe that there is a way to remove the mankad from the game and also stop the batsmn gaining an advantage.
This is exactly why Harsha Bhogle and Joy Bhattacharya are WAY more superior as cricket analysts and their commentary transcends beyond your cricketing stardom - watched it right after Ajay Jadeja and lot of other cricketers' reaction. These guys put it as clear as one could.
Harsha should convey this to Virat who was mocking his teammate in IPL. If Jimmy shredded the photo Virat is no better and unfortunate that Ashwin had to put up with the shit. If it's some teammate is fine the mocking comes from captain shows the captain temperament.
Ashwin is not virats teammate how stupid people are man can't you understand the franchise system when a guy play for particular franchise he is loyal to that franchise only and what he did was justifying because ash moked him after getting him catch out so its just a players fight but at the end both play for team and ash still was clapping and praising virat when he scored first 100 in pink ball test and virat praised him in first test so both are friends sometimes we say gali words to our friend while playing or in heat of the moment but we don't have cameras around us so no one bother it after game finishes we get back to normal state and people from camera think that they hate eachother.
Dude watch the video of match where kohli mocks with gesture of Mankad while taking Ashwin catch. Ashwin was angry and throwing things in the dug out. IPL was a 2 month contract. When you are captaining the country you are still the skipper of India while playing for a IPL franchise. Why Ashwin has been consistently sidelined and not even given a single series till now in ODIs and T20's. He's still the best player in T20 and a goat in test. Even they try to sideline him in test.
Being loyal to your franchise doesn't mean you have to mock the players. When the captain and premium bowler fight and you mock each other it doesn't bode well. Even Vaughan in cricbuzz commented that ash and Virat looks like they don't like each other. Can you expect dohni to do such things. It's ofcourse about temperament.
........or neither! If it's in the rules it's legal, but personally I think both cheering or degrading it is wrong. We definitley need to find a better way of dealing with it. Batsmen must be kept honest AND the decency of the game must be protected, therefore the idea of calling a short run would be an excellent idea, as opposed to delivering a premeditated Mankad. Everyone wins.
Exactly. If its in the rule book its not against spirit of cricket. You can't tolerate a bowler going an inch further the line while bowling. You even penalize him/her with free hit then how come batsmen get privileges ?
People also bowl a wide ball to stump out a batsman when they see the batsman advancing down the pitch. So, what's the problem with the intent of running out the non striker?
Harsha sir I think Aron Finch was well ahead of his crease because of that he was safe and completed a run. It was against India only but not in the recent series. May be two years before it was shown in television too in that match.
If a bowler crosses the crease by half an inch, it will be a no ball and a free hit will be awarded. But when a non striker batsman left the crease, why is sportsmanship coming into argument?
If it is not wrong than why Harsha are you getting irritated by the fact that it is being called as Mankading because Mankad did it for the first time.. If it's justice than you should be proud because it is being practiced by an indian for the first time and because of which he is being honored with the kind of runout bearing his name.
Yes seems a strange stance to take by Harsha, he is in favour of bowlers mankading but feels that it should not be called mankad. Makes me think that deep down he feels uncomfortable with bowlers doing this and that is why he does not want an Indian cricketer's name to be associated with it
Here's a little query then what about the fielders in the 30 yard circle when the bowler is coming in to bowl they are little outside the circle and they come in as the bowl is delivered something should be done there as well why can't fielders stand still at their positions because you are so engrossed in the game that you do such things it is not to steal a single or something. Something should be done there as well isn't it!?
This law is there for a good reason. If it isn't there, then it gives an unfair advantage to the nonstriker to start walking a few yards before the bowl is released. It's not right. Unless this rule is removed, it's well within the spirit of cricket.
Dear Crickbuzz and Community: I believe that the bowler's arm *must be on its way down* to complete the action and fake delivery, then the Mankad is possible.
Bowler runs fast steps out of the crease before releasing the ball, noball, bowler gets penalized. When the batsman does, he should be penalized. Period.

I would like to say one simple thing, as one brother commented that English cricketers are crybabies........it is true. I was listening to an interview by wasim Akram and he had said that for the longest time, English players were calling reverse swing "cheating", until they understood the science behind it. Now everyone uses reverse swing. Let them cry.....they have colonial mindset.
Backwards Indian culture do not understand the ways of civilization and why there is etiquette in cricket. Mankad is jungli cricket.
@@CaesarCassius yup...second your point...batsman surely sould be allowed to cheat few yards in english civilization, as cheating seems symbol of your civilization.
At the end of the day I feel if the Mankad family made a written submission and asked people to stop calling it by their name... then that should be respected! It's just bullying at this point if they've asked it to stop and people think its clever to continue.... and at the end of the day... the act is just being run out...
But I'd be happy if a Cricket rule is named on my name...i dont see how is it bullying...his name just got immortal...

Ashwin clearly waited for Buttler to move out. Ashwin's wrong here. And calling a cricket legend "a disgrace" is stupid.
Of course Jimmy doesn't have a problem with it considering he doesn't play limited over cricket. It's easy to sit on your high horse when batsmen aren't bending rules to steal quick singles in a test match.

Agree non-Striker Run out is absolutely right !
Thankyou Ashwin for standing up for the bowlers 👏🙏
Yeah exactly this has been my point all this while. 😕
Fantastic solution from joy Bhattacharya , 1 short run if the batsman is out of the crease earlier, call it short. Absolutely brilliant 👏. But I don't think it is an honorable thing to dismiss the batsman before the ball is bowled. Also imagine yuvraj hitting 4 sixes of broad and Dhoni getting mankaded on 5th ball , its always about who's player is mankaded, that is how people take sides on these issues. I truly believe it was because buttler was in top form 🙂.
I miss Inzamam, he was literally a rock. The best defensive technique and slow as hell.
his bat speed was fast great batsmen
Good!! Very good!! Harsha and the other one said it "Perfectly". We live in the 21st century. Laws are laws now, they need to be clearly followed. Crease is there for a reason!! U screw around with that, u pay the price.
No-one is disagreeing with the laws, they are arguing that the laws should be changed
@@juliancollins8162 I'm talking abt laws in general in the 21st century!! World at large needs to get that right!
Brilliant idea! A perfect solution, along with being a better way of dealing with this kind of situation.
Harsha does not have a problem with a bowler performing a mankad but has a problem with the name, why does he not want this to be called mankad if there is nothing wrong with it? Seems to me that deep down he knows that mankading is not right which is why he does not want the name of a former Indian cricketer associated with it.
Brilliant points pointed out here totally agree with you Harsha Bhogle and Joy Bhattacharyya
the way harsha explained jiimmy and anderson case was simply awesome
Harsha said it perfectly!! Non-striker shud wait, until the ball leaves the bowler's hand.
Totally agree with panelists' reviews.
Absolutely couldn't agree more! It's legal. PERIOD.
I m fine with calling it Mankad, what we should not call it is unfair. This is only the most savage reply to batsman who wants to gain extra yards
In that way why SWITCH HiT why its not cheating, bcoz bowler delivers bowl according to right hand but he switches and get advantage
Tomorrow someone might say that it's cheating that the bolwler bowls the ball with the intention of getting the batsman out but the batsman hit him for a six.
@@mohitdhiman79 by your logic someone might say why bowler gets his wicket batsman wants to hit six
Hitting switch hit requires skill like any other hits.
@@Santy_than if u can understand my comment its not about skills, its about getting unfair advantage by one way or other
same way bowler bowling cutters, slower ones , Knuckle ball sand other variations should be called unfair ...this game is all about deceiving each other within cricketing law
How could it is in game of spirit when non-striker leaves it's crease before delivery of ball🙄🙄
Jimmy just got burnt by ash lol
Can we name it after 'Tipu' .. Great underaged Batsman who got run out in similar way, during British era playing along with greatest all rounder ever 'Bhuvan'..
Lol
English guys cry all the time
Well said harsha
What a great idea by Joy.
I could not agree more! Great debate!!

Nice iDea , Marking it as short, it will really work! ICC should Make changes in Law.
@@nixtr3sharma Excellently made point Lloyd!
Ball tampering = Smithing/Warnering,
how was that? :)
Good idea by Joy!
There are many things that are in rule game. But there is also thing called sportsmanship.
The question asked at 3:46 never got answered by anyone!
By the way that doesn't show temprament thats show competition.
Actually I don't have a problem calling it Mankading. All Mankad did was show the smartness and fairness. It should be cheered not degraded.
........or neither!
If a bowler keep his feet a centimeter outside, the decision goes against him. Then this rule also needs to be followed.
Exactly. If its in the rule book its not against spirit of cricket. You can't tolerate a bowler going an inch further the line while bowling. You even penalize him/her with free hit then how come batsmen get privileges ?
1:43 to 1:47 savage 😂
And complete nonsense. Anderson will always be a lot more popular than anyone who goes around mankading.
@1:48 When was Anderson given out for being a habitual offender of standing outside the crease?
He was reffering to Buttler.
Batsman will be on half pitch if this rule do not exists
People also bowl a wide ball to stump out a batsman when they see the batsman advancing down the pitch. So, what's the problem with the intent of running out the non striker?
I disagree calling it run-out, wen the striker steps out its called stumping, then when the non striker steps out why it should be called run-out.
Are we just gonna ignore Gautam's hideous jacket?
Makes me think that deep down he feels uncomfortable with bowlers doing this and that is why he does not want an Indian cricketer's name to be associated with it
Very nicely discussed. All are questioning only Ashwin!! Why they don't ask Butler to stay inside the crease?😂
If stumping is legal then why isn't mankading?
Agreed with you all..
The ones who are opposing Ashwin are wanting to see 500 runs in odis & 1000 runs in tests every time.
This law is there for a good reason. If it isn't there, then it gives an unfair advantage to the nonstriker to start walking a few yards before the bowl is released. It's not right. Unless this rule is removed, it's well within the spirit of cricket.
Credit goes to ash
I think For this confusion the cricket board should consider the law in the game of baseball⚾️
Now how we going to name steve smith for ball tampering !???
Smithing it
Dear Crickbuzz and Community: I believe that the bowler's arm *must be on its way down* to complete the action and fake delivery, then the Mankad is possible.
Go Harsha. Totally agree.
Bowler runs fast steps out of the crease before releasing the ball, noball, bowler gets penalized. When the batsman does, he should be penalized. Period.
I don't get why there is a burden of so called sportsmanship spirit on the bowler. Actually the batsman is the one who is the cheater. He is trying to gain an unfair advantage before the ball is delivered.
