    I'm not American so forgive my ignorance but it's insane to me how long the US Presidential Campaign talks last, it's like every election year it's nonstop news between the Democrats and Republicans campaigns.
    Here in the UK it was a big thing for maybe 4 weeks and then we all settled back into our collective political pessimism.

    God political campaigns should not be allowed to be longer than 2 months. How is the incumbent supoosed to do their job when they spend 60 hours a week campaigning for 6 months? You elect someone in november, they dont start until january and then they start campaiging for re-election by the may at the end of their term?

    • @GalacticStarForge42
      @GalacticStarForge42 2 месяца назад +163

      The problem is, we don’t have laws limiting that or how much you spend like the United Kingdom has for example example that keep the campaigns shorter. Also, both parties are so used to this longer election cycle and the United States is so much bigger so it takes more time to go everywhere for both parties to campaign, including the primary process that takes forever and takes fundraising, that I don’t think that will ever happen. The United States is just a bigger country so we need more time to get everywhere for both candidates.

    • @IronDestinyBlaze
      @IronDestinyBlaze 2 месяца назад +76

      @@GalacticStarForge42 There's also the fact that the first amendment makes it very hard to make any constitutional laws limiting election campaining.

      @Michaelonyoutub 2 месяца назад +18

      The campaigning for primaries even starts much earlier, like summer of the year before the election. Most incumbent presidents don't have to worry about that, so it will mostly be other people with other jobs funding themselves, but if it was say a vice president running after serving a 2 term president, then they would basically be campaigning while being vice president, getting a decent portion of the travel expenses paid for by the government, for up to a year and a half.
      They likely won't have to campaign nearly as much as they would in the final few months, but right before the primaries, they would be flying all around and campaigning just as much, and travelling potentially even more.

    • @salmonmankingoftheocean7624
      @salmonmankingoftheocean7624 2 месяца назад +20

      the thing is, how do you classify something as a political campaign? even if you make a law preventing early campaigns, who's to say that an electee running high profile charity and volunteering options prior to campaign time isn't out campaigning for themselves, just under a different name.
      a law limiting campaign length wouldn't help, because parties would just put on displays under different premises, with the same end goal.

      In the uk our politicians can only campaign at certain times, and the pre election period is about 6 weeks
      There’s a spending limit on campaigns and the main feature of campaigns is candidates on their “battle bus”
      Our system is far from perfect, but compared to America I feel so grateful to see the winners and losers sharing jokes with each other, the losing rishi sunak made jokes about how GB Olympic athletes probably wouldn’t want advice on winning from someone who lost by so much
      Normally I would point out that both candidates in America have pretty much the same policy and benefit the same people, but this year Trump’s dangerous campaign makes him so much more dangerous, so even if you don’t like the democrats, please vote Harris to preserve western values and NATO

    • @bastienK

      In France also there is a spending limit.
      The amount of money spent in the US and the collusion it implies is baffling.

      @benjaminjones8782 I agree with you about Bush 43, who was notorious for his light work days - even so, the stress of the responsibility of his work as president generated the premature graying and aging that affect most presidents.
      Unlike Bush 43, Bush 41, Obama and Clinton were known for diving into the details of policy.
      Trump was notorious for refusing daily security briefings, and for lightening his workload by asserting that he doesn't need briefing or prep because he already knows everything.
      I know Kamala personality, and she is almost always overprepared. Don't think she'll be spending a lot of time golfing.

    I like how this video would have changed depending on the era. Currently, the digital space is one of the most important "fronts" for both current campaigns. Due to Covid, this was also true in 2020. Before that, the internet and meme culture didn't matter as much.

      That's essentially what the trump campaign is doing. Tens of millions are unaccounted for in their spending and millions are being paid to companies controlled by the trump family for apparently no benefit to the campaign. Some think they're literally just lining their pockets. It's also possible he's using campaign funds for his legal bills which is legal to do, but obviously not what donors expected.
