I always thought that when Martina was at or near the top, she hit the ball harder and earlier than people give her credit for. When she tried to come back a couple of times, her pace was slower and the balls weren't as deep, especially on the forehand. Her serve was worse too when she came back twice. Regardless, she was always brilliant on the court and later on in doubles and mixed doubles it showed.
The lack of depth on her forehand became a major problem. If you watch the matches where she lost to the big Babe power players from 2000 ish beyond you will see that she wasn't penetrating the court enough on that side... and other matches she would have unusually high unforced errors on that side... I think she may have won another major even with the weak 2nd serve... But a second weakness Was too much for her to overcome despite her Court smarts and shot selection which were the best around...
This match truly showed the talent of Hingis. Not even the power of Davenport on an indoor court could get the win. The difference in power was obvious but then so was the difference in talent and shot-making.
In the last semester of 2000 Martina really played well. She finished the year winning a lot of titles and only loosing to Venus in Wimbledon and the US Open but during great matches. And finishing the year with a win at the Masters in NYC
This was one of the best matches in 2000 and important win for Martina!
My two favorites! Thanks for this upload

I love how Hingis Smiles through her matches

Lindsay and Martina are always friendly towards each other.
Yup they were a team, trying to hold back the williams sisters…. They couldn’t hold on for long, the sisters are superior athletes to them.
Fantastic Match..two of the best players ever
Hingis pushing Davenport always from side to side, she knew she could hit more than 2 balls at same place , avoiding Lindsay strike zone. Very smart
Could not*

So good!!
Hingis is the best number one
glad to see the match but as highlights this was pretty bad
If only Davenport put more on focus on her movement. She is just too slow.
She did, she's just tall & lanky and worked with what she had.
