  • SFCDI April 2020 Computational Design Experience for Building Structures & Dynamo First Aid to the Coordination Nightmare
On April 17th (noon-1:00pm PST) , SFCDI welcomes Arturs Neiburgs and Sean Fruin.
    3:21
    Speaker: Arturs Neiburgs
Arturs Neiburgs is a Latvian entrepreneur who is passionate about technology. He’s background is civil engineering with 8 years of experience as Head engineer in precast concrete factory and 5 years as R&D project director for digital construction solutions and design and research of new building products. In 2018 Arturs has completed Master’s in Global BIM Management. Year after he took another position as a guest lecturer in Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies teaching Building Information Modelling. Currently he is working on scientific article “BIM implementation challenges for the Latvian construction industry”, development of web based Common Data Environment solution and completely automated design concept for simple frame buildings.
Featured Presentation: Computational Design Experience for Building Structures
Sharing experience and insights on structural design workflow using RFEM, Rhino, Grasshopper, and Tekla software’s. The path of experience will be explored, highlighting the major challenges and concepts.

    Speaker: Sean Fruin
Sean Fruin is a Mechanical Engineer and the Director of Design Technology at Sigma AEC Solutions. He has an ardent fascination with automation and the exploration of computational design solutions for the AEC industry. He has had the opportunity to learn many aspects of the design industry, having worked in manufacturing, MEP designing, and General Contracting. Sean is living his dream; having the opportunity to explore the latest technologies and acquire the knowledge to innovate, improve efficiency and increase quality in the AEC industry.
Featured Presentation: Dynamo - First Aid to the Coordination Nightmare
There’s no doubt that the transition from CAD to Building Information Modeling (BIM) comes with challenges. Adding another dimension in the mix has left huge mismatches in modeling standards and expectations. Engineers often model with only design intent in mind and stick to the 2d mindset, ignoring coordination and constructability. Most of these challenges present themselves at the coordination level leading to substantial data drops, massive delays in construction schedules, and often an unnecessary waste of time and money. This class will focus on ways to aid an effective transition from engineering models to the construction document. First, we’ll analyze clashes and streamline the coordination process between Revit and Navisworks using Dynamo. Next, we’ll get a holistic understand of the clash issues using visualization tools like dashboards and heat maps. Finally, we will dive into developing auto-documenting tools for post-coordination. After this session, you will be medicated to better handle coordination nightmares with an arsenal of tools and techniques to aid in this critical phase of the construction process.
