  • In the late 1990's and early 2000s, Rick Crawford was a star in the making in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. After his racing career ended, he made a serious of poor choices and proved to be one of the worst people who have ever been in NASCAR. His controversy is probably the worst of any driver in recent NASCAR History.

I m not surprised. Rick did not show any signs or act in a way that would ever make a person think he was like that. In fact, I would not be surprised if it was something he recently slipped into. I still can't defend it, though. As good-natured as he was, child predators are the lowest of the low.

As a kid, and when I first got into NASCAR in mid-2009, especially Trucks, I remember Rick Crawford’s #14 Blue and Orange Ford Truck running and racing on track. (and also seeing the Dega big wreck when he was airborne and when my favorite Truck driver Ron Hornaday was involved). He was one of the big veterans in the Trucks and well respected.
I still can’t believe Rick Crawford became a monster and did what he almost did. He should’ve gotten capital punishment. He has no right to be around in our society. He should’ve been in prison for the remainder of his life.
It’s awful that I grew up watching a child loving creep race. Imagine being a race car driver, doing what a lot of us would wish to do, and you throw it away by doing something terrible….

My dad knew Rick's manager back in the early 2000s. He was the only drover I had ever spent any time around. I used to play around in the backup truck at Michigan races and stuff... even played ps2 Dirt To Daytona against him. I beat him in every series but the dirt lol. When all this came out it blew my mind. He was always super cool and someone I admired as a kid. Very disappointing. I don't think I can even hang up the 14 truck door side I have because of that.

Every person has a weak point. Most are just good at keeping it a secret and not showing it. Statistically, between 0.2 and 0.5% of all men in the world have such tendencies. That's several million. That's why it doesn't surprise me that it hits a NACAR driver. Presumably more drivers or members of the community have such tendencies, which they don't show and don't talk about. PS: This is not an excuse, just facts.

Facts are, it's a numbers thing. There's always going to be that small percentage of twisted minds out there. It never ends, it's a fight eternal.
On a side note, I've known a person similar to this, but even more sickening. I was a sales rep that called on schools, parks, gov entities that I sold equipment to. I worked with this one guy, at a very prestigious school district. This is where the "money" was and everyone knows it around here. So this guy, not only a facilities manager, he also coached youth baseball leagues on the side. Now, I knew this guy, really well, or so I thought. I worked with him for 14 years probably and watched him rise up, always getting promoted. He was married, had a daughter, nice house in the neighborhood. Well, it all came crashing down, I believe it was on a Christmas day when he became EVERYTHING in the news locally for months. You can learn all about it if ya choose - just look for Ottawa Hills child predator - He got 101 years ~ I know some parents of his victims, people who own businesses in the area who's sons were involved, who helped this guy! Promoted him! Supported him! .... and no one knew or suspected anything. This is why people were so outraged because no one saw it coming. No doubt, the same thing here with this NASCAR guy. sure I remember him, quite well really, but means nothing to me. We all know, we all read it. It happens all the time and I think I'm pretty good at "people" , many successful years in customer service and relationship building.... I'm tellin ya man.... Everyone who knew this guy has went over it, and over it in their minds, talking to others almost like a damn support group for "How did we get so fk'n snowed by this guy?" I mean, this is a mentally unstable, out of touch with reality, broken toy that needs constant supervision - How did no one see it? ..... I think the answer is simple, normal human beings do not process information in the way that a predator, serial killer would process information.
The moral of the story is - they never stop, and right now, out there this minute, some sicko is doing thing, planning things, grooming things, so that they can do the exact same thing. And the really scary part? you never know who it is. But, that's why I love these "underage stings" ... It's great an and all, but come on man, Craigslist? So you'll catch some dumdum's occasionally so that's great!

This and the Jeremy Mayfield story. I think the Mayfield story let them know how to help keep the Crawford story out of public eye.
Even thought I don't think they did Mayfield right at all. I meet him for the first time in 2001 and worked on his cars and stuff for years (street cars, rollback and his grounds keepers). Always nice as hell polite and would shoot the shit with me for 15 20 minutes. He was always high strug though. Being setup by police wasn't right.
