Because of the time it takes for a radio signal to travel to Mars and back there is no way they can observe the landing live. This little detail proves that the whole this movie is a complete garbage. Btw even if humans survive the travel to Mars with no issues there is a lot of variables still unknown that can significantly reduce the likelihood of the crew to even survive a week on that planet. For example there's some high chances of kidney failure due to the different environment on Mars.
