the lecturer refusing to give out the lecture notes is absolutely ridiculous. like you said, they're just making life more difficult for their students
it upset me a lot at the time (and I still don't understand the problem with giving out notes...!) - but a lot of people reached out to help me when I mentioned it on twitter, which was a huge silver lining 😊
I'm really glad to hear your uni have treated you well 😊 err I wouldn't say I was surprised (disappointed but not surprised etc 😅) as oxford aren't necessarily great for treating students well in general, since they can get away with a lot of things other universities can't due to their pretty unbreakable reputation - which is a huge shame, particularly for the undergrads (I'm v glad I didn't go there until I was a bit older and had more confidence to stick up for myself)
@@alicedoesphysics well well! One of the main unis and undergraduates say come to Oxford! They made it look rosy until this! Treating your students like dirt effectively! I have an uncle who lives in Wantage and I went to Oxford station to get my train home, I looked at the buildings from the station and felt uneasy! I can pick up vibes and I almost felt sick that time! And my uni as a former polytechnic, RGU, has given us updates as we go along from the rector himself.
I absolutely love that you chose to go for your run through the woods because they would be muddy, no despite that, it just goes to show your genuine enjoyment of the sport further. Also grateful that you were honest about putting off your run until later in the day because you didn't feel like getting wet and cold at that time, so many people wouldn't have shown that, but we all put off our sport sometimes even though we know the benefits! Your body is amazing Alice, it looks strong and that is beautiful, why we would idolise anything else I have never understood, but I do understand that we end up comparing ourselves sometimes. I love my body, and these days, if I compare (which still does happen sometimes) it tends to be others doing my sports - at least that way they have the same muscles and lack of chest as I do!! Your videos are great, thank you so much for still uploading, they offer a nice break from everything else going on at the moment without, as you say, pushing productivity and making people feel bad for taking a break in the first place.
hey nea - thank you *SO* much, I honestly think this is the most lovely comment I've ever read?? thank you for taking the time, I honestly do appreciate it so much 😊😊❤️ hope you're doing well xx
hey, I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling too - hope you're being kind to yourself about it, and hope you feel a bit better soon 😊 I honestly had a month where I got literally nothing done 😅 but we're getting there! x
Hi Alice! I am new to your channel, and I'm really excited to see someone doing science-related subjects, since most of the study youtube channels I have come across so far is language/humanities-related. I found your thoughts about productivity really interesting, because I haven't really thought about it that way. I would love to hear you talk more about it, because it's an important discussion! Personally, I really appreciate productivity-related content, and find that at least most of the content creators I come across are really mindful of the important balance between work/"productivity" and rest. I also think the terms "being productive" and "wasting time" can mean a lot of things to different people- and I generally believe that spending time doing something you enjoy is not wasting time. But there are lots of distractions that keep us from doing the things we want to get done, and often productivity is just about maintaining routines that helps us to focus enough to do them, so we can accomplish our long-time goals. And that I find really helpful and inspiring. But I completely agree that productivity-content shouldn't be about doing 12-hours long study sessions or focusing on always being "productive", which is really unhealthy. I don't know if this makes sense, maybe we aren't even talking about the same thing! But I would love to hear more from you on this subject!
hey this is my first video ever of watching you and i watched it till the end! i am in my second semester of studying physics. this video was actually very calming to watch, thanks for putting it out and being so open/honest! hope youre doing good
Thank you for sharing your journey as a physics student. Physics should be more popularized because it s so much fun doing it . Love from another future physicist in Romania
I've been having a rough time the past two months with university, but it's finally over until the fall and I feel so free! It must be really rough having to do a masters during this time. 😕 I'm taking a graduate analysis class next semester and *really* don't want to take that online. Thanks for the video and I wish you good luck! 😊
hey congrats on making it through!! 🎉 hope you've managed to celebrate in some way 😁 ahh no that sounds like a very difficult course to try and take online - hopefully they have a good recorded lecture structure and helpful notes? good luck with it!
I've only just found your channel and have to say I am really enjoying your videos. I am starting a physics degree in September. I would just like to thank you for showing how it actually is. And for your thoughts on "productivity" and study culture. So thank you 😊
Last weekend was supposed to be a large student relay race between uni towns which was cancelled for obvious reasons. Instead, there was a virtual version. I competed with my athletics club as I normally would've, and just like you I kept putting it off because I was afraid I'd be slow (coming off of injury). I ended up running a 23.46 5k, and although it is slower than my pr I was really proud of how I pushed myself!
that's an awesome time, well done!!! the virtual races / relays are SO hard, aren't they? 😅 I don't know anyone who's run near their PB - the first one I did I definitely underestimated how difficult it would be "push" without anyone to chase down and set out way too fast 😂 hope your uni did well 😁 x

I've personally found it really difficult seeing all the exercise posts on social media because I injured my legs from running a few weeks ago so I can't do any cardio for a while. So I feel really lazy having to rest whilst everyone else seems to be training for half marathons and getting "shredded". Oh and all the articles in the media about how to not gain weight during lockdown are awful!
I’m glad you talked about productivity because I think it’s an interesting topic and it’s good to hear people with different views to me. There is definitely a darker side to productivity culture (as there is with exercise culture) but I don’t think that those bits should define the group. I watch quite a lot of studytubers and I think they tend to advocate for balance now (I thought it was interesting that you talked about “scheduling every minute of your day”, because that’s not the vibe I get at all from the content they create.) I don’t think that people who make long study with me videos and that type of thing are generally trying to influence people to study for those long periods of time, I think they’re just trying to show that they enjoy studying and trying to motivate people to do the studying that they need/ want to do.
