Oh hey! Didn't expect to see you here :) Your videos and world are amazing as well and what actually inspired me to start putting my sketches into lore videos. Thanks!
oh thats nice to hear. well yea I love what your doing with the game and will be keeping a close eye on upcoming videos of yours. cuz Im so exited to see where its going.
Thank you! Yea it's really nice to make as well. I totally forgot procreate saves the time-lapse and I can't wait to do more as drawing is quite relaxing.
I am totally down for this kind of magic system. I've always loved it when you can get powerful powers, but using them always demands something from you and can have disadvantages. Ensures that interesting conflicts can arise. Would love to know more about the main person and his motivation. btw...really love your drawing skills
Thank you. I will cover the MC more in a dedicated Withersworn video but the Withersworn knights are similar to the knights of the round where each is a legendary influential figure in the realm. You are the newest Withersworn member donning the armor of one of the first knights to be created, "The Twin Fang" after his passing. With Resins mental connectivity you and the other Withersworn share a bond and this is even further so with the previous Twin Fang who is a part of your mind now.
@@Andre_Sargeant I noticed other mention that 'darkest dungeon great mod 'Black Reliquary' do take your Resin inspiration here ? (which put the context in the story another thing entirely, just quote his comment)
I haven't played it. Almost all of the Resin work has came from the restrictions of the game. Before the rework I was going to use a Synty asset pack which had a sort of glowing yellow/orange resource being manufactured and I thought it would be cool if that was tree Resin used for the magic and went off that. I know I wanted constructs and a connected element for the lore so the rest just came naturally off that.
I love that the magic is so well thought through and all the things you could maybe do, but always has a huge drawback if there its something powerful. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
It's wonderful to see how much springs up from the drawbacks! Each nation also has their own direction and intention with it as well and those conflicts bring out a lot of interesting settings.
Here from monster garden. Thanks a ton for your gorgeous videos. I love movement centred games and I've been looking for a game with a well designed grappling hook for a long time
Ooooooh VERY cool magic system! I'm hoping the withering will be expanded upon more than just "generally evil purple goop substance", I'd love to see just as much nuance as with all the resin's properties. Also really into the idea of the resin being able to form hive mind connections at high usage and for that to be part of the kingdom's faith? That seems really cool and I want to know more about that, and how the withering came to be/how it interacts with the world and resin, etc. :D
Thanks! While I will have a Withering lore video that expands on it, it definitely is one that will be discovered more throughout the game. There is a lot more nuance to it but all quite spoilery info so while it certainly appears as a generic evil goop right now, as you play you will discover more what it is and how it interacts with Resin and the world.
@@Andre_Sargeanthonestly all of it is interesting. There was a lot of information in that video and none of it felt forced in or contrived. If anything, I'm curious about the angels and "The Withering"
you have Hack and Slash on steam, i can only hope it will go more in a direction similar to Darksiders, where its more story driven than just urge to kill shit just because its what game is about. It would be shame not to, when you obviously think about the finer details and worldbuilding "I will watch your career with great interest" - The Senate
The Withering almost seems like a dark mirror to resin, visually, which is interesting considering resin isn't just good either Also, seeing the one Withersworn with purple at the end there, I'm sure that isn't foreboding at all (lie)
Wow, love the voice effect, and very cool lore, also love the art style reminds me a bit of FFT. Subbed and looking forward for more! edit.- just read the description that is not your voice but a robot voice, is it some AI?
The connection to plants is very interesting, like what exactly causes them to ooze magic insanity goo? What is inside them? What are they hiding? How many do I have to cut down before their screams start to make sense? Why can they scream? Why won’t they tell me? What can scream but no talk? If they would just tell me! I don’t get it! Why?!
I know that, for the future of the game, some misteries are bound to be kept secret; but boy do i want to know abouth wither and the high king (Emyhr? Ahmir?) Also, if at all possible, could you record the voiceover yourself? I thoroughly enjoyed your videos on the developing side of Withersworn; and AI tiktok old dude just doesn't seem as invested or passionate about your project as you are :D
No worries lots of very awesome mysteries and even way more to Resin that I shall keep secret. I can definitely do a video covering Withering and Emyr soon! I would like to record the voice over myself but my attempts didn't turn out too great for lore reading and sometimes the house is full of noise where I don't have a chance to. Once I get more comfortable talking or a better recording workflow I can try to transition to that.
cool magic system, I would be interested in seeing more on how resin impacts the economy inside Withersworn. for example, can just anyone craft resin devices? if not, are the crafters themselves valued and kept protected in secret? oh and I also wonder if the player will be able spec into or craft their own devices during gameplay 🙂
While I do enjoy bleak worlds similar to Hollow Knight and Souls this idea sprouted from a dwarf dungeon asset pack I was originally going to make the game with. A lot of the lava assets looked like a cool unique energy resource and it ended up being worked into this. Neo-paganism, biblical and historic tales, along with modern technology are more drawn from inspirations. For fiction Princess Mononoke and Berserk are big ones.
Plants and animals are affected as well, often mutating them in similar ways. Plants specifically have ancient history with Resin being used long before conduits and other refined types. Most often used by the Eastern witch tribes, bark would be smoked, with leaves and flowers in the teas. Insects and certain creatures like frogs, slugs, and leeches they would use to transfuse to themselves in high concentrations. The shared neural network Resin seems to have is apparent in nature and you can feel it connected through the roots around the kingdom. Much of the research into constructs and creating life actually came from the forest witch Ceridwen who developed much of this technology founded from her studies in plants and the ancient tribes mystics.
I have been following your posts on Twitter and the game looks superb. Wish you the best. May I ask you why you decided to go solo dev in this project?. You are currently working with a team on Aethyr, but just curious on why doing all by yourself on this game. Thank you.
Thanks! I don't have the funds to hire anyone at the moment and for Aethyr I was working under Labyrinth as a partnership for rev share. I'm unsure if I'd do the same for this project as it's hard to find someone skilled who can stay motivated for a big long project as opposed to finding funding to commission individual work.
would love to gain an ability where you can overload yourself with resin where you enter a wraith like state but full control that grants new abilities
