The Scandinavian outfit is the traditional dress for the Sami people. The area of Sapmi stretches over the northern part of Norway, Sweden, Finland and part of Russia. The outfit is different in style between different areas but mostly has the same colors.
Yes yes. The Sami wears diffrent types of traditional clothes. For Sweden, our traditional clothes are very different, much longer and ... Flowerly (?)
Raeen has a great memory for the things he's learned from being on this show.
"Beauty, colorful clothes, adornment, in the true sense all this is for women only".
- Man in a pink and silver turban (aka Babu)
And what about the pink top he worn in Thaïland 😅😂
Uncle Babu is the greatest!
I may remember wrong, but I believe in most of India (pastel) pink is considered a muted or plain colour, as well as a masculine one.
Felt so proud when Raeen remembered that kilts are from my country, Scotland lol
Same! He even remembered the long socks
I'm impressed by their retention of detail and knowledge. More like this, please.
they know all these cloths better than many people i would say!
Thank you, Raeen, for knowing that America is not just the US, but many countries!
Raeen needs to be in more guessing videos, he was showing a lot of excitement ! He also has an excellent memory.
These guys are actually pretty good! They guessed as well as anyone raised in a city.
Klong, lol. I'm gonna start to call Klompen that instead ! They don't actually hurt your feet at all since it's all smoothened and typically you wear them with thick goat wool socks, you walk in them sort of like slippers.
They were worn by farmers and fishermen to protect their feet from hooks and other small objects, and were even considered safe enough as safety boots for a very long time.
Today they are mostly sold as souvernirs, but there are certainly still some people who wear them, but most people only wear theirs when they're working in the garden.
Greetings from The Netherlands!
I love how they appreciate everything and all the technics that went into making the clothes even the styling is seen in a very constructive way
These guys have pretty good memories. Just imagine if they could have had a full western style education. They could have owned and run a big company of some kind..
People with western education cant even find their country on a map.
16:45 quadrille (kwa-drill but is originally a french word which would be pronounced ka-driy) is an old type of dance so it’s more specific (traditional?) clothes than actually traditional clothes
The Sami are the only one of the approximately 20 tribes that originally populated Sweden who still have a distinct identity. The rest of us have become a united people called Swedes and we have our own type of folk dress, a style for each "sockel" (a type of area division). There is also an official national folk dress. They are not often worn anymore, but you can see them at midsummer sometimes. The only traditional clothes Swedes often wear are sweaters that have an ok-mönster (pattern). The patterns are found on textiles from the Viking Age, which later began to be used on clothing when people began to knit frequently.
Edit: I forgot "wooden clogs" are still used by those who live on the country side in Sweden too. During lucia, lucia and her parade are dressed in a specific way. I forgot because I don't think of any of these as "traditional clothes" even though they are when I think about it.
I wonder how the villagers would react to the lucia tradition? it's very striking to see lucia with her crown of live candles in her hair.
Our Crown princess , or just the royal family in general are often seen wearing the traditional clothes Sockel.
And yes these guys should watch Lucia and our Midsummer
this was fun, more videos like this please
Lol the translation of the wooden clog was wrong. It said klong, the correct translation is klomp. And they are actualy very comfortable and warm. They are also saftety shoes that protect your feet from sharp objects like nails, hooks and stones. The hooks and the nails are from the shipbuilding era and fishing. When you lost your hook in the mud it was still there but you couldnt find it untill you exidently stept on it. So it was much safer to wear clogs. The hooks wouldnt penetrate the wooden sole, as it would with leather ones. And it was an recourse that was abundand in a very lush and green enviroment.
loved this and great job to you and them both!(:
Oh sweet! I love to see Babu and Raeen in their traditional attire, but also enjoy seeing them veer towards Western attire at times, or better yet, mixing the cultures! I do that on occasion, myself, I admit. I love seeing different countries' attire, as much as sampling their foods, or learning how they celebrate different things, or how their homes are. All so fascinating to me.
The garden apartments I live in have a predominantly Indian family percentage, and I fit in sort of, because I adore colors..bright ones, often. And I've long noticed, even before moving here, that they also admire bright, bold colors. Seeing them out conversing, while their children play on the playground {my apt is the one across from the playground in the complex, so evenings in summer they are out playing until after dark at 10pm and their parents are all out talking in groups. So I hear and see them all the time and they also mix their culture's attire with my country's attire. LOVE IT.
13:47 Raeen was actually right. The hat is from Turkey but adopted by Egyptians.
5:23 kuffiyah scarves have actually become very fashionable in the united states recently 💕
So fun!
I'm really impressed with how much these guys remember from all the dozens of videos they've watched. And, hey, Babu, your comment at the end made *ME* think of a song I'm now going to share with *YOU* from the musical Hair:
I would just like to say that it is my conviction
That longer hair and other flamboyant affectations
Of appearance are nothing more
Than the male's emergence from his drab camoflage
Into the gaudy plumage
Which is the birthright of his sex
There is a peculiar notion that elegant plumage
And fine feathers are not proper for the male
When actually
That is the way things are
In most species
How many of you sang it as you read it? 😃💜
8:29 that’s Lederhosen (or lederhosen) not LederHosen (which means leather pants, that’s also where hosiery comes from, they have the same origin languages), we don’t capitalise every first letter of every word in composite ones and it’s Bavarian and Austrian not German (: most of germany doesn’t do that even if they partake in Oktoberfest too now, but otherwise it’s historically mostly Bavarian and Austrian clothing, lederhosen for males and dirndl for females (but also anyone can wear whichever they want)
māori is the name of the tribe, the peoples of new zealand, and piupiu is a verb meaning to wave about, move to and fro, etc, that’s why it’s called that
On the Fez hat, it is part of the 'national costume' in many countries that were under the Ottoman rule, for example, Egypt, Lebanon, etc. It is correct that it was originated by the Turks but they themselves do not wear it in Turkiye anymore.
15:56 Its also from Mexico so Babu was correct.
Really interesting listening to these two giving their input. It's a really interesting topic.
I knew the dresses, but the hat threw me! The scarf, Saudi Arabia. Thob? There are people in the USA wear this as well. Babu, Raheen is a young man, and he sees the woman's faces first! LOL You and I look at the clothing. In the hot countries, silk and cotton, in the cold ones, more wool and linen and leather. The Sami? Wool is my bet!
That's a Mexican Sombrero, Sombrero vueltiao has a flat top and is smaller and differently colored.
Nice video but the background music gave me anxiety.
17:19 that’s modern carnival clothes not traditional brazilian clothes, and no, nobody wears that for events in south africa (: each specific tribe has its own outfits (or lack thereof, as in, nudity) for dances and special events and other things
Cowboy is not a traditional dress in the US. We have no traditional dresses except for Natives.
We should get Raeen some patterns and appropriate materials to try making some of these.
The wooden clogs are still worn for special occasions by the descendants of Dutch immgrants in the US. I had a pair when I was little. If they are made right, they are quite comfortable and a very sturdy work shoe. We call them "klompen".
About 13:42, We were wearing this hat in the last times of Ottoman Empire and the early times of Turkish Republic but later a hat revolution happened and this is replaced by black long hats like the Europian ones in the 19-20th Centuary. As a reason of that, This special type of hat(Fez) is still avaliable and can be found as a historic element in Türkiye
The phrase hat revolution is kinda funny to me. I imagine a bunch of people performing a coup and establishing a new kind of hat.
@@BambinaSaldana Actually it is just a part of revolution. Revolution includes removing of caliphate, closing of dervish lodge, acceptance of civil law, letter revolution, etc..
The pazific islands clothes look very interessting, to say the least !
The german Lederhosen are leather, not cloth. (Like the dancing man)
I think you see the similarity of that they don't use a belt, but the strap holding up the pants.
(I don't know the english word. Hosenträger in german or hängslen in swedish)
Suspenders in English
I like the Native American dress was covered, but that was only one example out of the many many tribes on the North American continent. It would be nice if a video is done covering several different tribes.
Gee, you guys are fun!
17:19 bro have his priorities straight
Show them reacting to the MET gala
Is that J-Fred from Team Edge? 😂
9:11 that seems to unfortunately be traditional bullfighter clothes, not traditional spanish clothes and it’s tra-heh not tra-jeh (:
Old dude is great :)
11:37
That's sort of correct.
This is only worn by the ethnic minority of northern Scandinavia, northern Finland and a few places in Russia near our borders.
The outfits for the part of the American continent is unfortunately lacking many of the north, Central and south.
The Middle East is even more lacking. Central Asia is non existent.
13:41 did you make a mistake or is he colourblind? :p that’s red not blue
I feel offended as mexican ... Watching that gringo bad costume with the hat 😂
I have several keffiyehs even though I'm not muslim. In Arizona where I live it's very sunny and I don't tan. I need to keep the sun off of me. I also have broad brimmed hats.
At timestamp 14:00 I had one of those tunics. I really liked it!
Now show them pictures of people walking into Walmart 😆
This was a very interesting video, but the background music was extremely annoying, especially for the European section.
Actually this continent is called North America, and the United States of America is just one of the countries that can be found here.
Great episode as usual guys! 🫶
15:44 really with the crappy amazon halloween costume? you couldn’t find one accurate photo?
Wrong, America is a single country. The Americas are the continents.
African wear was too generalised. Ok video
If this channel is common man then
Babu is its soul
I love the pioneer dress for American women 🤣 like we aren't wearing jeans and hoodies.
"he looks no less than hitler" XD
Raeen, be less aggressive and kinder to Babu when he speaks. You don’t always have to be right. Babu will not be around forever.
Why do Americans call themselves Americans if America also refer to the whole continent name (North and South America)? So a Chilean is also an American because he has born in America too, the same way as a Mexican. Both have burn in America (continent), i.e. Americans
As far as I know, 'American' is referred to people born or raised in the US because the full name of the country is the 'United States of America'. This was shortened to 'American', and since peope from other countries in the Americas have unique identifiers (Mexican, Peruvian, Canadian, etc.) it became the word most people use. I hope this helps!
They’ve got memories like elephants.
There is absolutely no one in North or South America, that is not from the United States, who would take kindly to being called American. That word is tainted and best left to those who've claimed it.
I’ve heard there’s been controversy regarding this that most US citizens are unaware of, everything from the technical definition of “American” to politics.
Either way, as far as I can guess, (and while I don’t claim to speak for everyone in the USA) we generally don’t call ourselves Americans out of any spite towards any of our neighboring countries in the western hemisphere; it’s simply what we’ve been calling ourselves shortly after The Declaration of Independence was made in 1776, when our country’s founding fathers told Britain we aren’t British anymore, “we’re Americans now!”
Since then, it’s what we’ve been taught to call ourselves and now a days it’s considered a patriotic symbol of pride to call ourselves Americans. We’re taught that being an American (member of the United States of America) is to be free, and we sure love our freedom.
Sadly though, I think a lot of us should eat a piece of humble pie and get a reality check, because that beautiful and sentimental part of our history is being transformed into a gross ego that’s resulting in many of us becoming too self-absorbed, arrogant, and ignorant to understand and preserve the legacy our founding fathers made for this country.
I fear for my country’s wellbeing and the sickening slope of regression our politics has taken us.
@@graceapodaca89 It is confusing , should we call ourselves a United Stateian . 😅😆
*Raeen, 'America' or some say 'the Americas' includes North America and South America...and between them is a narrow strip of land that connects them...but they are still the same continent. North America consists of United States of America and above that, Canada. South America begins with Mexico at the southern border of USA, and the Southern American countries of Peru, Chili, Argentina, Brazil, Equador, Uraguay, etc...several more countries, in fact.*
In some cases, Mexico is in North America and the Caribbean is often referred to as Central America.
Most of your explanation is correct, but when you call the strip of land between North and South America, then you have to refer to it as Central America also. You aren't the first person who refers to the parts of the continent as just North and South America.
@@alvakaren1 Do you plan on correcting everyone's omissions? You've played unrequested teacher to me and and another viewer in less than 20 minutes. Why?
How about you just write your own comment with whatever information you feel was left out of the video, and stop trolling and being a petty jerk on other people's comments? It's just a trollish thing to do, negative piggy-backing.
You hide in other people's comments, being a petty jerk, instead of putting yourself out there like we do, and make your own comment that will be seen much more readily.
If your information is so correct and complete, you shouldn't be afraid to make your very own comment and open yourself up to trolls doing what you do, have done no doubt in the past, and most likely will continue to do.
Please stop making this wholesome channel into a trolling ground, okay? Just if nothing illegal or drastically incorrect is said, hush your fingers, get over yourself, and move on.
You don't NEED to correct everyone, you CHOOSE to do so...or do you really need that to make yourself happy and feel superior? Just curious, Karen/Kevin.
Enjoy your weekend and try being a little less negative in your words and a lot more positive. If you'd made your own comment AND responded to other people's comments, that's different...but you did not do that.
So think about that this weekend, perhaps. If you don't think you need to do that, then you also don't need to be a petty school teacher online. You probably won't even read this..which would prove my point.
in different countries it's taught differently, in Canada for example, at school we learn 26 countries in North America and rest in south America, in some countries they even teach north and south America as one continent. i think USA teaches 3 in north a few in central and rest in south but I'm not sure, but that's what I've heard.
Mexico is always considered as a part of North America.
It's too bad more weren't shown from the Americas, particularly indigenous clothing since there are hundreds of cultures there. Check out the AMazon sometime.
Russia is an Asian country, not European, Russia used to extend into Europe when it was still the USSR. Their longest borders are with Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia, their borders with European countries like Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Finland and the 195 miles of Norway are where Europe becomes Asia but both sides are part of the same Eurasian Plate. India is it's own continental plate, like Australia it drifted alone in the ocean until it's collision with the Eurasian Plate caused the formation of the Himalayan Mountains.
Russia is in both Asia and Europe. Most of its land is in Asia, but most of its people live in Europe.
Bruh. Russia started in Europe, and only in XIV century expanded into Asia.
And remember that culturally Russia is definitely a European country.
Europe ends at the Ural mountains, its natural border. Europeans dont like to identify with the country they wish to pillage and even try to separate Eastern Europeans from them, but Russians are still Europeans, before Europe became this homogenized thing, with some eastern influence.
I just knew when it comes to Africa, there will be so much generalization and the continent will not be represented well. If you just pick an African country with enough diversity, you will get so many traditional attires instead of the generic ones picked in this video. Thumbs down as far as I am concerned.
being from Germany I must unfortunately object to the picture showing supposedly our folk wear.... what the man wears in the picture is a pathetic costume and not a real Tracht ....also this style is worn in Bavaria and Austria and not a thing that represents all of Germany ..... i felt mocked here - very sorry that Babu now thinks that we really look this cliché pathetic thanks to your bad picture choice 👎😐
