In 2019 a total basket of goods that cost $100 now costs over $116 based on the CPI data. The average Canadian home spends approx. $67,000 on goods and services annually. With the 16% increase in costs that equates to $10,720 per Canadian household in additional costs compared to 5 years ago. A two month freeze on GST has an estimated household savings of $558 dollars. If you also include the $250 per adult fed rebate coming in the spring. A two adult household will get back $1,058 or 9.9% of their total cost increases. Don't be fooled, this is an election ploy.
Going by reality or my personal experience, again reality, a “total basket of goods” since 2019 has at the very least doubled so all of your calculations are based on a lying CPI report.

Cutting carbon tax would have less of an effect and would be more detrimental in the long run - consumers pay less than 250$/ year for carbon tax and they also get a carbon tax rebate multiple times/year. GST breaks for 2 months, however, it is definitely not a long-term solution and barely makes a dent in bill payments+food costs.
The carbon tax gives $800 per year in rebates, I don't find it to be a burden, I'm worried about what the conservatives will replace it with, they will replace it with something.
