“‘Letters’ is a song that I’ve been working on for a long time; in some ways I’ve been writing it since a genuine pen-friendship of mine dried up when I was a kid, when the mix-tapes stopped coming through the post. It’s a song about communication and its breakdown, about nostalgia for teenage romance, and about how reassessing those things as an adult can be the start of a healing process.”

It’s both sad and beautiful that we all probably had one specific person that came to mind listening to this song. Damn that one poked my heart.
My girl and I would write each other letters, while I was “away.” When I got out of jail, our dream came true to see Frank in Maspeth Queens NY! We ARE FRANK TURNER FANS! Our only other dream is to have Frank play our wedding. Frank, I’ll let you know pal. We live in Pennsylvania, and we’re “nobody” so my girl thinks it’s a long shot. BUT Frank, she took a plain black marker and wrote my name on her chest! I think I’ll keep dreaming, and get the money to pay Frank, to play at our wedding. If there’s one artist I think would do it, it’s Frank Turner.❤️☘️

This is so relatable. I once fell hard for a penpal and for awhile, the feelings seemed mutual. I faced my lifelong fear of flying to go overseas to meet him... in 2020, weeks before the world shut down. Two years of travel bans later, he met a local girl and I was heartbroken for months. But we've kept our friendship going despite all that. I went to his wedding not long ago.
That's a sad story i feel for you 😢 but it's a kinda happy ending that you have remained friends and you went to his wedding 😊

Frank I just want to tell you that I love your music
I love how he's out of touch with the timing of the lyrics and it only gets harder to catch up over time, but that's okay - it suits the song perfectly. I love this song so much, it's about reflecting on a time of your life that I'm experiencing right now and it feels great to know that fucking up at this stage is a part of life.
Not to make you feel old but I've quite literally been raised on your music, you've been my favourite artist my entire life & genuinely taught me a lot through your songs, and everything you make is amazing and a big part of my life ❤
