  • A bit of fun. I've been watching a great channel, by The Missenden Flyer, and he did a series of videos of the top 10 things he hates about his bikes, so I thought I'd do one about the VFR!
Thanks to TMF for giving permission to steal his idea! ;-)
    Check out The Missenden Flyer here;

I had the 750,plenty not to like
    1.total waste of breakdown cover.
    2.bars 2mm to low
    3.seat to narrow,needed another 1mm
4.not enough room for your mates spares under the seat.
    5.rubbish at cutting grass
6.took an age to heat a pasty
    7.wouldn,t sleep two
8.the engine noise would often wake you up
    9.had to wear a helmet
    10. And worst thing of all,my mum liked it!

Just seen this vid. Cracked me up. I’ve been a subscriber for a while and was wondering what you were going to say. Especially as my 1999 5th gen arrived yesterday. Thought I’d take it for a first spin for half an hour. Got home 4 hours later. (Naughty boy) 😀
    Love it mate.
    Great channel.
Looking forward to these restrictions getting lifted and taking the VFR on a south west tour.
Cheers for all the vids. Help keep my sanity. I own an events company. Supply sound light and stages. Not had a gig since last feb. So your vids have been helping lift my spirits mate.

What a cracking idea for a video!! ....and you're quite right, we don't tend to buy bikes we hate do we, still made me smile this one and gutted I didn't do the same treatment for my Street Triple (which was extremely difficult to even come up with niggles for!). I had an extremely good tour of Ireland on my VFR800 around 10 years ago, topped off with a quick sprint down to Dartmouth in Devon and finally back home to Ipswich. The whole experience was marred when going passed Colchester on the A12 my chain decided to part company with the bike, taking a chunk of the crankcase with it. Fortunately it was just a stone’s throw from the Honda dealer where I bought it. Having said all that I still loved the bike.

Every bike suits someone and brand snobery is embedded deep in many peoples minds. To you Rich you have a bike you love and cherish as i do with my Street Triple. I also love my BSB and TT and I do not care what brand wins as long as I have had great racing and the thrill of speed control and the sound of the motor. Good on you son and long may you make your vids.

You got me again, Richy. As I have the same bike as you, I was very curious as to what you would say. But as I was watching, I thought to myself that you were running seriously behind on time...until I realized the point that you were making. I will say that one thing I hate about my Honda VFR800 is that it's too good of a bike to even think about trading it in for a brand new bike, which is what I promised myself I would do when I retired. I have test-driven a number of bikes the last couple of years, but I couldn't bring myself to part with the VFR. Even the salespeople tell me they think it's a great bike.

Good dose of comedy acting but making a valid point. I ride the 5th gen vfr800 and find it hard to fault. I actually prefer it to my two previous machines; a Yam FZ1n and a mk1 Triumph Street Triple. They were both excellent machines but lacked the versatility of the VFR (which is also a blast to ride when you're in the mood to take things up a notch).
I discovered The Missenden Flyer about a month ago and I completely agree with your comments; I've watched all his videos and his reviews are excellent; Just wish there were more of them........

I have a VFR750FL, there are two niggles as far as I’m concerned
    1. The weight, heavy for a 750, fine once you’re moving and very planted but heavy around the garage.
    2. Charging circuit is weak on VFR’s 3 reg recs and counting since I bought mine.
I also have a blackbird, heavy bike again but the difference in weight for the extra capacity is minimal. That has a mosfet reg rec so unlikely to blow any time soon.
The 800 is longer than my old VFR as well, so for a shorty like myself is less comfortable over distance.

  • @zenrising3314
    @zenrising3314 6 лет назад

Love my '07 Viffer, but yeah there are some things. 1) LED screen starts to have pixel issues after a while - certain bits fail to display. 2) The bike looks better from the side-back than it does from the side-front, due to the weird pointy nose. You have to virtually lie down on the road and look at it from the side-front for it to not look weird and pointy. 3) Styling is starting to look quite dated (though I still enjoy the weird angles of the thing, except from said pov). 4) Those glaring round headlights look like something off an old FZR. Honda should have given them a bit of shape to go with all the other angles on the bike. Otherwise, love the bloody thing.

Tyre valves not at 90 degree for convenience, otherwise I think you like it a lot. It’s actually very nice to see someone who does the miles and the trips you do not fall into the newest is best must change the bike mode, preferring the existing bike that actually meets most if not all their needs.

    A few things;
I like to stand up and ride occasionally. That’s pretty hard to do for any extended period on the VFR.
    Almost zero underseat storage.
And there are not many options to fit a throttle lock/ cruise control.
Hitting the VTEC whilst on the back wheel or cornering is sometimes very unnerving.
My particular fuel gauge is not at all accurate. But that is maybe only my bike. 😂
Other than that. It’s perfect. 😉

Looking at getting one myself as for the money they seem a cracking bike only things I could possibly see disliking is : Clip ons, the width looks massive at times so filtering city centre may be a bit of a bugger, the vtec judder when it kicks in would need to get Dynoed / setup to be a tad smoother if it’s preowned and unsure of its life.

What a beautiful town you are riding through. I' hear you I have 4 VFR"S All 5th Gen. 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. I hate the yellow color on my 2000...

I’m a bit surprised because this list matches mine perfectly which is why I’m selling one of my current bikes to pick up a mid 2000’s v-tech VFR.

As an owner of a 2003 6th gen I instantly clicked on this video when I saw the title! I thought, "Oh here we go..." and quickly compiled a mental list of my own . At the end of the video I was a little annoyed; I was dumbfounded as to why your #10 was the same as my #1. One of us has their priorities backwards. ; )

I own a 2017 VFR800 and not sure how tall you are but i personally find the handlebars a little bit too low , especially on long rides , im 6'3 and tend to have to ride in a very sporty position or i get sore hands/wrists. Only real gripe i have with the bike , im looking at getting handlebars raised , either custom job or apparently raisers can be bought through honda.

I don't have a VFR (I'm thinking of getting one) but here's two things that I've heard of - the side radiators of the gen 6 vfr can cause your legs to get hot - they can be very expensive to work on (that's all I've got ;)

Fucking Brilliant. Well done Richy. TMF should be so pleased with your rendition of his series. I follow you both and think this was very cool. Cheers. I never did hear from you about the Gremlin charms I sent. With the issues you have had the the VFR, seems you may not have put them on in time. Can't wait til your visit to Canada en-route through the USA and Vancouver. Keep us posted so we can meet up and maybe put you and the team up for a night or two. looking forward to it

I will check with the post and their tracking number if I still have it. Sent it to the address you provided in e-mail. We'll see later. Located about an hour south of Toronto (en-route to the USA) in St Catharines. I'll send my phone number to your e-mail. How many can I expect to entertain? Will be EPIC.

I can tell you a few things after driving a vfr800 for quite a while, 1 sometimes you can get electrical (ground wires) issues that are a headache to troubleshoot, 2 the horn button is a bit too long so sometimes you can activate it by mistake, 3 quite wide turn angle compared to a GSX for example, if you want to turn the bike on a narrow street especially if is a steep hill is not very easy. overall not recommended for the lady riders that can drop it quite easy and it would be impossible for them to get it back up. That being said is a very nice bike to ride, no more negatives, i have a lot of fun with mine.

Same here. My son has got one now and taunts me with it, I'm seriously thinking about trading in the bike I replaced it with just because my old bones found it easier to wheel about the garage. Best rapid tourer I ever had. Probably the best bike full stop. One of the first pre-vtecs dec 97.Loved it, had it for years.

I started riding my '98 again after I replaced the reg/rec, stator, and harness. In the meantime was a Ducati Multistrada 1200s. And I'm so happy to be back on the VFR that I don't ride the Multi any more. The Multi might have bigger on-paper numbers, electronic suspension, ride by wire stuff but it's no match *at all* for the VFR, even though its engine is a full 1/3 bigger. Nowhere near the flexibility, woosh feeling, sound. Plus the Multi feels twice as heavy, and has nowhere near the same telepathic throttle/brake, feeling of grip, or perfect gearchange. And even though it's got more power, massively more torque, it's just not as usable. It's either too quick, or just too cantankerously irritating in the fuelling to ride at anything other than full throttle. The VFR is as beautifully relaxing at 10% pace as it is at 80%.

I know one, slow rpm speed in a 30km/h zone, that is horrible. But other then that, it still beats modern bikes in comfort, speed, power and mostly everything else.
It's 115HP is more then enough to keep up with all other bikes. Going from 100 to 250KM/h is so fast, it's no problem to keep up.
I know as I used to have a VFR1200F with a racing ECU, the VFR800 had no problem to stick in my mirror.
Honda are idiots for not producing this bike anymore thanks to the stupid EU-rulings on CO2, that turned out to be lies in total.
I will not ever sell my VFR800Fi's, ride them until they crack, there isn't any better bike on the planet.
The VFR800 does it all, great speed, great touring bike, great racer....what more do you want or need? And before I forget, they never let you down, they simply don't fall apart.

    1. Temperature raise fairly quickly and takes a while to come down.
    2. Under seat storage in incredibly minimal.
    3. The centre stand is next to impossible to use if you don't weigh very much and haven't got height on your side.
    4. Cam chain tensioners can be dodgy.
    5. The front of the engine is a right pain to keep clean. Takes ages to make it shiny after being out in bad weather.
    6. 2 of my disc locks do not fit very well in the front discs.
    7. Nightmare to mount a dash cam in a sensible position
    8. Steering lock is temperamental (not looked into why yet)
    9. Bleeding the brakes is not exactly the easiest in the world.
    10. It's not a Yamaha 😉
