Good evening ladies, this singer was the middle one, Annete Olzon, the first was Tarja. Floor, at least to me is the very best. Lulu....keep working the windmill.
Yes, this is the 2nd lead singer ,Anette Olzon . She was picked after the split with Tarja, joined in 2007 and remained until 2012, recording 2 albums. Anette has more of a pop/rock style. Tuomas wanted someone completely different than Tarja. This song is from the first with her, 2007's Dark Passion Play, IMO this is one of her best songs. Excellent in studio, there aren't many good quality live videos with her, the ballad "Slow Love Slow" at 2012 Montreux jazz festival is one of the few.
Anette has continued in music, with other bands , and some solo albums. But she has a day job, she is a nurse in her native Sweden.
If you get a request for "Bye Bye Beautiful", go with the remastered live at 2008 Exit festival, the music video often gets blocked in many countries including the US.
I agree, this is one of, if not her best song. Especially this MV version
Meadows of Heaven is superb
Annete is a fine singer who pales only when compared to the singers that came before and after her in Nightwish. Floor’s voice is just so warm and broad and powerful
That angel refers to Hugo Simberg's Haavoittunut enkeli (Wounded Angel) painting
Came here to say this but you were already ahead of me. 👍
Now that you meet Anette, the 2nd singer it's time for the sorceress .
Amaranth is about a Finnish painting the wounded Angel and also a flower. In this videoclip you see the wounded Angel and the people on the bridge are confused, should they kill or save the Angel, because a wounded fallen Angel can also mean the Devil. Anette Olzon did a good job here in the studio, but Floor nailed this song live at Wacken 2013
Agreed, Floor’s performance at Wacken was phenomenal.
@@Bolo2028 "Wounded Angel" made by Hugo Simberg (1873 - 1917). Check out his art.
Just to add, a fallen angel will be released from condemnation by burning. The end? But then I am not a angel specialist, just something my Granny used to say.
The first scene is a nod to another famous Finnish painting: Boys Playing on the Shore by Albert Edelfelt
This was Annete's best song for me by far. She was best in the studio. Now have some real fun and check out the live Wacker version. Floor gets over 80K to sing along and notice the band members are also blown away. Be well.
Wacken is by far the best version in my opinion 😊
Nightwish - Sahara. Live in Tampa. Go go go
Lulu,if you look closely, when Floor headbangs, she braces herself with a strong stance of knees bent, legs slightly apart to anchor her firmly, and her hands on her thighs to limit the amount of strain on her neck and upper torso.
You are a fit, young Woman, you will nail it in short time !! 😊😊
Gotta love Nightwish. I m a little biased as well because one of my grandchildren is named Amaranth!❤❤
First time I see 3 generations reacting! It was fun to check out some Nightwish with you, thanks.
Thanks for watching
@@KathyLuluandDonna the "Live" version with Floor from Wacken 2013 is much much better
@@nicod1361It's not a competition. The 2 versions are just different.
Because the History and Drama of NightWish there are 3 Vocalists "Tarja Turunen, Anette Olzon and Floor Jansen". All of them were very good Vocalists, Anette get down played because her voice is quite different from Tarja and Floor. Tarja and Floor have training and high soprano ranges with a lot of Power and Projection. Anette has a Middle Range Voice that is more of a Fit to "Popular or Progressive Rock" performances. Anette should stand proud behind her work with Nightwish it was Quality. Tuomas wrote music originally for "Tarja" to belt out with her Powerful Voice this Created NightWish's core Style. "Anette" had some music written to fit Her Voice between 2007-2012, Then Came "Floor" this altered Tuomas's Writing Again. NightWish is more than Just the Vocals, They are a High Talent set of Musicians that link up to perform for the Music and the Fans making it Look Easy, when it is Not..
The sad thing about Anette's story is,she cought in between 2 excellent live performers (Floor and Tarja). Tuomas was ambivalent in his choice of Anette.1) He could and wanted not (at that time) a clone of Tarja ,there would (probably) too many comparisons( happens anyway). 2) By taking a singer like Anette, not classicly trained, he
couldn't do a lot of the old songs anymore,so ,disregarding the old fans in a way. So for many fan's Anette was found to "light"for the genre Nightwish stands for,NOT Anette's fault but, to be honest ,Anette was good in the studio but doesn't compare live with Tarja and Floor.
I think the more slower songs Anette did live ,sounded great and i think she would even be a great Jazz singer but, stylisticly she didn't really fit the symphonic metal genre in my opinion. Anette's 2 studio albums with Nightwish are highly regarded but the epic performance live from Floor doing Anette's songs ,put's Anette a bit in de shaddow. Discussions (say the least) about the 3 female and 1 male singer will always be part of Nightwish but,all of them made important contributions to what Nightwish is or has become.🤘
I love Annette as I love Tarja - both are super singers in the areas of competency and are powerful vocal influences to the wonderous Nightwish sound that (in my opinion) blossomed completely with the arrival of Floor. All three Ladies are worthy to hold the honour that "I sang with Nightiwish".
Even though Floor Jansen is my favorite female singer, I'll always have a place in my heart for Annette Olzon. My introduction to Nightwish is the Imaginareum album so Annette was the first singer I heard. She has a band called Dark Element which is pretty good. More of a power metal band than Nightwish, who are more symphonic.
Yes,Anette was unjustly vilified by Nightwish fans, and for such a sweet soul, the toll it must have taken on her, unimaginable.
She is a strong person though, a mother and now a Registered Nurse as well.
She has produced music in her own right, and her two albums with 'The Dark Element' very impressive in my opinion.
She has effectively re-invented herself in,and of,herself.
I admire her greatly, and like her voice. ❤
@@paulhayward8459 Annette has hooked up with Russell Allen of Symphony X and they have a couple of CDs out under the moniker Allen/Olzon. Very good power metal.
Annette is Very Fantastic too!
This is from their best album, Dark Passion Play, IMO
👍👍👍Nightwish awesomeness. 🖖❤
I like this song but with Floor you get more power. Tarja is operactic Anette is pop and Floor is both. Anette got better in her 40's and now is 50
Floor is only 43. Born in 1981.
@@jamesanderson5268 I know
🇬🇧 Norfolk along for the ride , this video was based on the Finnish painting the wounded Angel by Hugo simberg 😊
Thanks for entertaining me with this thoughtful ballad about finding comfort and hope in a time of struggle. The focus of the song is an amaranth, a beautiful flower which symbolizes the endurance of the human spirit, even in the darkest of times. The song ultimately celebrates the strength of the human spirit and provides comfort and assurance that things will get better.
Glad you enjoyed it!
It is another song Tuomas wrote about himself (pay to the first sentences of the lyrics!). And the song was initially written for Marko (the demo version available on RUclips with the name of Reach). But then Tuomas decided that there is a nice girl out there (he told in an interview) and chose Anette out of all ladies. This song is from ""Dark Passion Play", the first album with her, but next, "Imaginareum" and movie with the same title, was her moment of triumph.
Good evening from Finland ,video is maising, because its one of nationalromantic painter Hugo Simberg born 1873 -1917 .Paint called Haavoittunut enkeli ,english The Wounded Angel, its in national gallery.
...there's also reference to a famous painting that is well known here in Finland I.e. the "wounded angel":
ruclips.net/video/rErWO6ELPeE/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Finnish painter made "The broken angel". Windmilling.. toes pointing forvard, legs apart bend your legs and upper body. hands on the thighs (not on the hip) and start windmilling, ( not headband). Good luck.
Hello and thank you! Yes, when the original singer of Nightwish was replaced I was furious. But Annette Olzon got also place in my heart because she is very sympathetic and lovely person with the great rock/pop-sensibilities. And when Annette was replaced I was again furious. :D But then after few years, I learned to love Floor too - like all the other people in the world! I saw the together during last summer in Finland and I after all these years I still feel pure love towards Nightwish. And I´m impatiently waiting their new record! If you want to see more Annette, please check Nightwish performing Slow love slow in Montreux Jazz Festival.
Great reaction, ladies! As others have mentioned, the was Nightwish's 2nd singer, Anette. She was with the band the least number of years, but a fine singer. Next, you'll have to listen to Tarja, the original voice of Nightwish.
I do believe I predicted the Lulu windmill on the last Nightwish reaction.
As others have said, this is Swedish singer Anette Olzen, the second of Nightwish's trilogy of women vocalists. When I saw Nightwish in 2012, it was a week before she and Nightwish parted ways. I'm glad I saw her with the band and have always had an extra bit of affection for Anette.
If you want some suggestions specific to Anette, check out "Slow Love Slow" live at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2012 and the official live version of "Scaretale" from Nightwish's official video. Anette is magic in the first of those two and is dark magic in the second one. In fact, Anette is in character during "Scaretale" so if y'all intend to have a Halloween reaction, it might be best to save it for then.
If you´ve discovered Annette, you definitely need to discover Tarja, Nightwish´s first singer, and the perfect choice to start with is The Phantom of the Opera live at End of an Era. However, there´s more awesome stuff with Annette, so another nice song with her is Meadows of Heaven.
Hello my beautiful fellow Texan ladies from wintersun Alex . Great reaction for nightwish amaranthe from the Annette Olsen era❤️
Thank you so much!!
this is anette olzon
Great song and Anette performed really well!
If you like Anette, then definitely check out song "Bye Bye Beautiful" (official clip is great). Marko sings in that one too... It's very energetic song and their voices go very well together too.
Songs with Anette tend to be more "pop like", but it still carries the Nightwish sound.
lulu.
Do your own metal Reactions.
Top show
This video is inspired by the painting called ”Wounded Angel” by Hugo Simberg. Painting were a protest for the insanity of the civil war in Finland. In this painting two boys with very similar clothing than on this video are carrying this wounded angel, and with a sad face they have this blaming look ”why we all did this?”
What comes to the song itself, I think this is very catchy tune and very good song for Anette’s voice. Thank you for request for this one, and thank you for reacting to this 🙂
Thanks for watching.
The best version is definitely at Buenos Aires with Floor.
You have to watch the video of Bye Bye Beautiful. Amaranth and Bye Bye Beautiful are my favorite songs with Anette.
Practicing a proper windmill first requires proper windmill music!🤘🎸Amaranthe from Wacken 2013 is awesome!🤘🎸
The Wounded Angel (Finnish: Haavoittunut enkeli; Swedish: Sårad ängel; 1903) is a painting by Finnish symbolist painter Hugo Simberg. It is one of the most recognizable of Simberg's works, and was voted Finland's "national painting" in a vote held by the Ateneum art museum in 2006.
Great video this. And one of the songs that suit Anette very well. In my opinion the two albums Dark passion play and Imaginaerum are the best Nightwish albums.
All the singers are great that Nightwish have had in there own way. But in these albums were Anette was the singer the music and songs become more intresting and much more folk music vibes. And Marco also sings a lot more.
In these albums are a few songs were i prefere Anette one is Eva and the another are Scaretale.
Dark passion play has a few songs about anger of what happened with Tarja and they are both very good. Bye Bye Beautiful and Master Passion Greed (never performed live)
Hello ladies, greetings from UK
Floor did a great live version of this at the Wacken 2013 festival which you have been previously watching songs from, the audience participation was great
By the way Lulu, put your feet shoulder width apart, bend your knees slightly, put your hands on the top of your thighs (this keeps your body still) and release the muscle in the back of your neck to allow your head to rotate. That is how Floor windmills. I bet the next time you do it, it will be perfect! 😉
Twice in my life, I've said "We need to hear that again." The first time was listening to Genesis- 'A Trick of the tail' album in 1976. The second time was seeing this video in 2010. Shortly after, a RUclips suggestion brought me to After Forever- Energize Me...... with a very young Floor Jansen.
You definitely need to see Floor sing this.. so powerful. Live also is always the best. Try Wacken 2013 concert for this song. Thanks for your review.
100%. Annete is just not Nightwish sounding to me at all.
I concur 💯%
There is a very funny, and quite popular "misheard lyrics"-video related to this song, floating around on RUclips (if it hasn't been taken down). Phrases like "Carrots that wander, never fading, raiding...hiding M&M in a lamb!" and "Jesus's snow white Zorro" et al are brilliant, well worth checking out for a good-natured laugh :)
That's almost the level of "Hamster, a dentist, hard ~~~~, Steven Seagal"
The song is based on the Finnish painting painting "The Wounded Angel" by Hugo Simberg, voted the most loved painting of the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki in 2006. The song also reflects the beliefs of older society that angels that were wounded were cast out of heaven. As such, they must be evil - which is why they burned the house. However, the Angel escaped (presumably by the grace of God).
Absolute perfection 👍👍👍👍👍👍
A lead singer change for a band can be fatal to their career and record sales... especially one as elegant and charismatic as Tarja Turunen, the original Nightwish singer. But by 2005, Tuomas (keyboards) felt that they had no choice - there was no certainty that Tarja would even show up for the next Nightwish show (or recording session) unless they agreed to some outrageous demands.
The decision to fire Tarja went public the day after their final concert of the 'Once' tour in '05; it was released as a live DVD 'End of an era'.
Between 2005 and 2007, Tuomas was torn between carrying on w/ a new singer or calling it quits... He worked on new songs while the band had no singer and things looked bleak for a while. But he persisted in writing and then in 2006, he asked the band's managers to start looking for a new singer for the new Nightwish songs... One of the tapes that came to them from Sweden was by the pop band Alyson Avenue - their singer Anette Olzen didn't think she had a shot at the Nightwish gig but still sent her music in... She was a pop singer and not an operatic vocalist - a very different voice from Tarja.
Tuomas was looking at going in a different vocal direction from their operatic female vocalist identity...He loved Anette's voice and she made the final auditions. Anette did reveal that she was married and had a child at home... but she was willing to go on the road.
Nightwish quietly recorded the vocals for the 2007 album 'Dark passion play'... and released the track 'Eva' as they announced that Anette Olzen was the new singer of Nightwish... 'Amaranth' was the first single and music video released to promote the new album w/ Anette Olzen on vocals... It shocked everyone that 'Dark passion play' outsold the last album 'Once' w/ Tarja on vocals... There was a backlash from Tarja fans who wouldn't accept a new female singer in Nightwish... but the band's popularity actually grew w/ Anette.
However, the transition was not easy... Nightwish booked a demanding world tour that went into 2009 and included full US tours in support of 'Dark passion play'... (Floor's band After Forever opened the initial dates) ... The tour took a toll on Anette's marriage and she ended up getting divorced on tour - she apparently walked offstage at one show after the smoke machine was bothering her. The stress was getting to her.
Tuomas decided that Nightwish would pace themselves for touring in the future... but Anette was settled in as the new Nightwish singer... the album was a hit worldwide... and Tuomas was back at work on a new Nightwish album between 2010 and 2011... Anette got remarried and welcomed another child w/ her new husband.
The next Nightwish album was a concept record 'Imaginaerum' in 2011 and Anette's voice fit in perfectly... the album sold well and a world tour was booked in 2012. Unfortunately, Anette discovered that she was pregnant in 2012 just as Nightwish had a full schedule ahead of them. They talked about getting a temporary singer if Anette had to go home and Floor Jansen was a name being considered.
Anette was not receptive to being replaced on tour... She insisted on touring the US in 2012 during her pregnancy, and this proved to be a bad decision... Anette got sick in Denver and the opening band Kamelot let their backing singers to perform that night after Anette was hospitalized... After 1 more show, it was obvious that Anette would not last the tour. She was sent home and Nightwish announced that she was out of the band - Floor Jansen would be the singer for the rest of the tour into 2013 and finally joined the band.
ruclips.net/video/P3E4M9cNN-Q/видео.html
Apparently she left the stage in tears due to what was going on in her personal life at the time and those lyrics hit home....
This was the first thing I saw of Nightwish on November 15th 2020 the reason why I watch this was the title of the song was the name of my favorite band at the time Amaranthe I thought it was a sign so I actually saw Anette before Floor
*Well, just the spelling is different. The Nightwish-songtitle is "Amaranth" and Elize Ryd's band is spelled Amaranthe. Amaranthe is also one of my favourite bands. I always have to focus not to get confused, for this one Amaranthe - song is called "Amaranthine"...* 🤔 🎵❤🔥😈🔥🎸
oh this is the old singer, she is also awesome, from Finland.
Another banger of a song from my favourite Nightwish album.
Anette is currently the lead singer of another band called The Dark Element, I recommend checking that band out
if you haven't already done that, it's time for the big ones. Greatest Show on Earth and Poet and the Pendulum
I think her spirit Flow away. The villagers panicked about this falling angel.
ohh... yep good memorys; listen a lot to this song (with Anette and later with Floor 😉)
You should also watch her do "Scaretale".
All three singers have their own touch in Nightwish history. No one is better or worse in my mind. Just different. In their solo careers all of them excel! But then again, according an old Finnish idiom: Everyone has their own taste, said the dog when licking his own balls... (Kaikilla on oma makunsa, sanoi koira kun muniaan nuoli) 😀
Way to go! Lulu ;)
Great reaction 👍 Another 2 good tracks with Anette are 'Eva' and 'Meadows of Heaven'
Lulu, when you do windmills, brace your legs and put your hands on your knees so that you are not falling over.
Lulu....you are doing great with the windmill.....keep practicing 🙂
Thank you, I will
There is a lot of allegorical imagery behind the meaning of this song, and there is disagreement among the fanbase so I won't elaborate on what I am pretty sure is the correct one lest people jump all over me. LOL! But let it be said that NW's lyrical poetry contains a lot of references to angels including one that contains the specific lyric "Burning angel wings to dust" that obviously referred to a particular individual who the fanbase thought of as an angel. But this video is not as dark as it might seem at first. The boys find a fallen angel. She fell from heaven back into the earthly plane of mortal pain and suffering. While the boys are well-intentioned in thinking they are saving her, they do not understand that they are actually imprisoning her here in her disgrace and suffering. The elders know that the way to save a fallen angel and set her free is to send her back to heaven so she can soar again. That's what the imagery is conveying.
Amaranth is a flower
its in Ateneum,Helsinki
nice windmil
My favourite Anette song 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
ohhh. Annet. Love the song though.
An amaranth is a perennial plant.
Wacken concert is one of the last concert when Floor was replacing Annette
Amaranth was the first Nightwish song I’ve ever heard. At the time I thought they sounded like a heavier Evanescence.
seeing is same drummer as in 2013 Wacken show so this is just before they changed Singer.
To windmill bend you legs and put both hands on your knees. That will support you properly. Then try to swing your hair tips in a circle.
Keep your hands on your legs like Floor does for the windmilling.
if you want to due the windmill you have to put your hands on your knee to safe your nek according to Floor
Can you be more adorable Lulu with the windmill? Ok Kathy, Donna your turn!!💋💋💋🌹🌹🌹
Phantom of the Opera, Ghost Love Score, Poet and the Pendulum, or if you really want to hear a different side of Nightwish give While Your Lips Are Still Red a listen
Agree about Tuomas 😛😉
Love Lulu's windmill!
I actually prefer Anette's singing on some songs (this one, Storytime).
Please react to the phantom of the opera with Tarja Turunem. She was the first vocalist and recorded Nightwish's biggest hits.
another good song with Annette is nightwish sahara live
Tuomas in this one 😘
really like you ladys : ) great reaction, Annete was a more "poppy" version of nightwish, very different from Floor or Tarja
Thank you!!
bend those knees hands on hips lol
"Did you see Tuomas whipping his hair .." ... hmm no no for some reason I didn't :)
Hello. Might I recommend their song "Storytime"? It is the same vocalist and a piece from their movie.
While some may comment that Anette Olzon's voice is too "pop' for Nightwish, it was Tuomas who wrote the songs, albeit for her voice and range of techniques. If he was asked over a fourth glass of wine, I bet Tuomas would confess to steering the band towards a bit broader audience. (they had gained acceptance in the European circuit by then, but Metal can be a cold and poor-paying mistress).
I really enjoy the music of the two albums written for Anette's voice : Dark Passion Play and Imaginerium.
Might we not have these songs, in the form we know them, except for Anette's presence in the band?
Only Tuomas knows for sure.
Anyway, this was a fun reaction.
It is always a pleasure to watch you three venture thru music.
Thanks
Annette has a unique voice,AMARANTH I think is a FALLEN ANGEL,
Anette.. she's not the best technically, but everything that she touch become a great song. Still today, she drops great music 👌 Love her 🌹
It may not have been without reason that you were recommended a studio version. Anette gave the songs a jazzy tone live that doesn't fit with Tuoma's music. Amaranth didn't sing well live either. She can't sing classically and she simply murdered many Tarja songs. The band knew all this because they had chosen them at your audition. Tuomas probably wanted to develop the band more towards Within Temptation, but that ended in a catastrophe. After 6 years, the band and singer separated in the middle of the current tour and Floor had to step in as a temporary singer within 48 hours. Of the singers in the audition, only one became a well-known metal singer without Nightwish. Shortly before there separation from Anette, she was a Nightwish singer for one night:
AMARANTHE - Damnation Flame (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
For me there are only a few songs where I accept her. This is where she can best demonstrate her strengths:
Nightwish - Slow Love Slow live Montreux Jazz Festival 2012 HQ
In contrast to Tarja, Anette was unable to assert herself after Nightwish. She appears much less often at festivals these days, her records sell significantly less and she is rarely searched for on Google:
The Dark Element - "Songs The Night Sings"
Anette Olzon - "Parasite" - Official Music Video
*The female clean vocalist from AMARANTHE that is meant above is ELIZE RYD. By the way, there was also another female vocalist on the same gig, that helped Nightwish out : Alicia White-Gluz, who is the actual frontsinger of ARCH ENEMY.* 🎵🎸❤🔥😈🔥
*Apparently you must be an Anette-hater, Jeez....let her live.* 🙄
@@NicholasCorvin No, haters don't justify what they say. I also let her live by referring to her current music. But Nightwish had chosen the wrong singer and no one wanted to correct the mistake in time. So it was corrected at the worst possible time and the band almost destroyed it in the process.
Hello ladies! You really should start at the beginning of this band and work your way thru the songs of the first 2 eras as they sound with their original singers. This is Anette Olzon and so many of the songs you have heard Floor sing were Anette era songs. Tarja Turunen was the original singer and again many of those Floor songs you have heard Tarja sang first.
Hello from Finland.🙂 Have you listen Floors version to sleeping sun? It is amazing.❤ And i vould also love to see you watch a video version of that same song, sing by Tarja.🥰
There is good video about song Nemo too by Tarja.
Sorry if there is issues about my writing.🙏😅 I just love you reactions to Nightwish. ❤
Thanks
There is live versions with Floor and for me that is much better
Good one Lulu but don't forget to support your upper body half by putting your hands on your thighs. You'll get there, just watch more Nightwish live videos 😂🤘🏻.
Thanks for the tip
@@KathyLuluandDonna Oh, i was just pointing out how Floor does it. If you revisit Storytime from the Wacken show you get some good footage of her technique while windmilling. Rock on Ladies 🎸🤘🏻!
Have u guys watched the band Amaranthe?
No
This Version with Anette is Nightwish playing Symphonic Poprock and with Floor there is Symphonic Metal 😉
*That's too harsh, because the composition is exactly the same. And a changed voice is not enough to change the genre. With Anette or Floor, it's still Symphonic Metal. At least you could have called it Symphonic Rock.* 🙄
*You could call it Rock, but definitely NOT Pop.* 🤬
@@NicholasCorvin Changed it😉
🤩👍💥💯🎼
🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
And theres Anette.......at least I love the video!
NWA🇫🇮🤘😎👍
No knocks on any singers. I love them all in their own way. But I see it like this. When it comes to Nightwish, it's the Goldilocks theory.
Tarja - Super strong operatic style. Maybe TOO operish for the casual listener.
Annette- Beautiful Voice but too poppy for Nightwish' style. It really showed live on the songs from albums not written for her.
You should really check out
Nightwish "Scaretale" live. It's a live/compilation video. It's amazing. It's like Tim Burton meets Nightwish.
Floor - JUSSSSSST RIGHT
Take Anette and the first singer Tarja and combine them... and there you have Floor!! Both are really good but fall short to Floor. In my opinion
no ure hair is great, dont sweat it
For your introduction to their first and original singer, Tarja Turunen, I highly recommend Nightwish's live version of "Phantom of the Opera" from the "End of An Era" show (not the version with Floor and Henk Poort).
In my opinion, Annette was better in the music videos. Live, I'm not a huge fan, but this was a harder time for this band after Tarja left the band. This time of Nightwish was heavier and by far some of the best albums.
