    I'm in the software engineering field. My managers are pretty on top of AI Development as well as our director. (I work in the FAANG). I was sitting with my manager at lunch yesterday talking about whether or not Devin will get good enough to replace an actual person, and he said: "Nah, there definitely needs to be a human element when you develop software, you're not going anywhere. But [DIRECTOR] is convinced we should replace everyone below management with Devin-likes. It makes sense, absolutely little to no cost for maybe-quality engineering. All you'd need is just one dude with an ass in the seat to go over and verify the code and you can knock out 95% Of software engineers."
    I've been in my job for like, 5 years now. Guess it's time to pick up a trade instead of tech cause it's clear to me this shit is a dead end.

      @@Sina-dv1eg tons of people in all AI-threatened industries are still thriving. This isn’t something that happens over night. But the reality is that for every person that isn’t using AI, there is someone they’re competing with who IS. A talented artist working with AI will simply outwork an artist that isn’t - all the while producing high quality work. Art that used to take weeks, now takes days and so on. In other words: use AI to help you or just get left in the dust. I’m a programmer and use AI quite a lot now, some stuff that used to take a good few hours, now takes minutes. How long do you think I’d last if I was still taking hours to do something my colleagues can get done almost immediately? I’d probably get laid off or slowly ushered out lol.

      That's a big question and i'd recommend doing your own research, for me i think programming will be like machine language, no one really codes in it anymore as we have something above it thats more user friendly. It reminds me of maths, if you have a job in maths you're probably a teacher, but we have very advanced calculators and machines that can compute the things we want. Programming will be one of those things still taught in class so you have fundamental knowledge but you wont be writing much code in the future.
      I'm on my second year but im doing an open STEM and have done some engineering modules so i have the option to go back to electronics engineering and i must say i am very tempted, either that or cyber security.

    As a writer, i’d like to say, welcome to the fucking club, took you a while but now you’re on our level too 😂
    Self-publishing sites (like amazon) are just flooded with AI garbage. The asshole behind the willy wonka disaster also published something like over a dozen AI generated books.
    Now most of them might be shit, but when the space gets flooded with turds, people need to go on grand expeditions to find the few gems in the sea of refuse.
    If AI was able to encroach upon the territory of creativity, it was only a matter of time of it to take over all the rest.
    Seriously, especially something as logical as coding.
    “AI isn’t capable of doing it anyway” yeah, for now… just a year ago AI was garbage at making videos… oh how far we have come in just one damn year.
    We’ll all be out of jobs yet forced to keep paying for everything that will be made by AI and robots. Truly a beautiful corporate world.

    • @tirannoide9056
      @tirannoide9056 Месяц назад +1

      I would not pay for or read an AI generated book. The human touch is needed for writing. You need to feel the writer's emotions and energy in the book, the writer's humor etc. Jobs like coding, which are purely logical, in which emotions are meaningless, nobody will care if it's AI generated or human, as long as it works and it's solid. Probably 90% of jobs as developers will be gone by the next 10/15 years if AI develops so exponentially like now. I believe that writes are safer than developers because of the human touch, which i believe every real reader cares about.

      Buy some real tools and learn how to fix things IRL. Work for yourself. The future is not online nor is it working for organizations and managers that hate you.

    It's funny how people not too long ago said AI will never be able to do this or that, and even if so it is decades away from being able to do it. It was obviously going to blow up quickly, since new AI tech can help make new and better AI tech. Like other say, it is basically exponential. It is coming for ~98% of jobs, and the few it won't take are mostly just the jobs running the AI's and probably a few outlier jobs, but most AI/androids will be able to do even some of the outlier jobs if not all of them. It took Sora and Devin for people to finally wake up, and even then some people I'm sure are still denying it. Most people can barely even imagine what will happen in a week, or even that day, so no surprise they can't comprehend something as complex as artificial intelligence.

    • @forkstaf1918

      yea nah, humans in the west rn are expensive but versatile. Any machine you make can usually only does 1 thing, a hammer hammers nails, an assembling machine assembles small parts, chatgpt writes and dall-e draws. The amount of money you have to spent to develop and produce just one machine can be ridiculous. Meanwhile humans can do pretty much anything with the right education. That’s why humans still stock shelves, better to spent just a lil money every month instead of bankrupting the company for a machine that may not even work.
      And this rule only applies in the west… In other places where the worth of human life can be measured in single digit numbers it’s straight up cheaper to work humans to death than buy a machine. An example I heard was of a south african woman who was asked why she didn’t have a washing machine, her response: “My maid can do that.”

    • @MrRADicalOfficial
      @MrRADicalOfficial Месяц назад +3

      @@forkstaf1918 You do realize technology becomes cheaper over time, right? Your point is true now, but eventually tech will be so advanced that the things that are worth thousands or millions now will be a fraction of the price. Then eventually there will be companies that release high tech, like cheap androids (to us now it is high tech, for them then it will be the bottom of the barrel, they'll even be people bullying others for not having the advanced android version), for mere hundreds that are built to do many tasks. Technology is already starting to outpace us. Once it is advanced in many sectors, companies will start merging those together to create AI/androids that are capable of many, many things. Like, why does an AI have to be limited to doing one task? It doesn't. The only thing stopping it from doing other tasks is missing code. Not even far in the future there will be an AI that can answer "any" question, draw any picture, create any song, etc. This is only the infancy. When television first came out it had a few channels, but now look at it. It can have hundreds. Look at phones. They could only call people, but now you can use a browser to look up anything that exists on said browser, you can take pictures, video, play games, mod the hell out of it if you have the knack for it, etc. That doesn't look like one or two tasks, now does it? You're being narrow-minded and not thinking enough about how things will work long-term. It is always advancing, so to judge it now in the way you are is idiotic, or incredibly ignorant. All tech in its infancy is limited, but branches out more and more as it advances.

And so far, no AI is capable of doing things that I can do. So what if they replace software engineers? AI learns FROM us, fire us all and have AI learn from itself, in several years it will either crumble like the art models do when they learn from other AIs or there will be new technologies that it cannot use or things that cannot be automated. At the end of the day it is not just our jobs that are threatened, there are many far simpler jobs that AI can replace and it hasn't yet.

People act like Devs are there to code, when in actuality we are there to take the blame and to translate upper management's meaningless business catch phrases into products and services so that they can take the credit.

      Yes, but Devin writes the whole thing in under a day, they identify what’s wrong and update the requirements and within the project schedule end up with something workable. - and that’s without reclassifying the project as research so they can spin up the next project as implementation, which gets reclassified as implementation phase 1…… etc.

    Some aspects to calm you down:
    1. Most companies don't want to share their genius ideas with an AI built by another company (data privacy)
    2. Think from a security standpoint: If there are no coding experts who the company trusts reviewing the code, then how can the company be sure that the AI did not built some spying backdoors into the code which steals company internal and customer information? Also how can you be sure the AI built the software in a way, that is safe when it comes to hacking attacks from the outside/customers?
    3. Cost and Resources:
    Powerful AI's need a lot of computing power, which most companies don't have and cannot afford.
    And even if most companies suddenly could afford it, the hardware is so power hungry, that the electrical grid would collapse. Its absolutely unrealistic that suddenly every middleclass company has very powerful hardware and can run a powerful AI models that are poweful enough to replace good creative developers.
    Theres even more aspects/reasons why AI will not replace software developers anytime soon on a large scale if you think a little bit outside the box.

    Like I've mentioned, I don't think it will replace jobs, but an intermediate developer will be able to compete with more experienced. You still need a human with coding fundamentals to build the app. But it will probably replace jobs because what would have taken me weeks to do took 3 days. For someone like me who is a part time developer it added years of experience to my ability;.
