I love both the homemade quads AND the DJI quads for different reasons. I really think they are (and always will be) two different animals. I really hate the proprietary nature of DJI drones. As a company I detest DJI. I dislike the fact that DJI stuff ONLY works with DJI stuff. And I don't trust what DJI does with my personal information and my location etc. Also I don't want my drone telling me where it will and won't fly. You can't deny the quality and technology of DJI stuff though. It really is the best at what it does. What I LOVE about the home builds is the open, sharing nature of the DIY community. The open source developers are doing what they do for the sheer joy of using technical knowledge to create these wonders of science. I find ENORMOUS satisfaction in sourcing components, soldering up connections, researching and installing software and FLYING something that I BUILT! It really is a fantastic feeling and its the main reason I pursue this hobby. BUT... I believe the home builds will never fly as well or as long or as far or capture as good of video as the DJI quads for the reasons you outlined in this video. I believe that like in most instances, it all comes down to MONEY. DJI will continue to use EVERY tactic known to man to dominate the marketplace. The silver lining is that the technology filters down to the open source community. It is a very slow and very expensive trickle though. Thanks for the video Pawel. You are a fantastic developer and a GREAT resource of information. I REALLY appreciate what you do. I hope you and yours have a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2024. Happy flying amigo.
Well, they sell the camera and gimbal replacement, basically for all DJI drones. The issue is to write code to talk with it and make it work. 😕 Anyway, thanks, Pawel! 😊 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
just a fact there is piece of hardware available, does not mean you can yield it. Proprietary hardware almost always uses proprietary firmware. There is a specific communication protocol, there may be encryption etc. Writing code for closed piece of hardware without documentation is almost impossible, reverse engineering can take forever. IMHO it's better to start with the parts available as opensource or open to integration out of the box and experiment with them.
This is why closed source is actually good. It works, it’s optimised. This is why O3 is still the best system. ELRS is probably the best to come out of open source but it still does have its quirks.
@@georgew.9663 no, it is. WS is a close second for its versatility. Then analog and HDzero last. My determining factor is penetration and link stability.
I had a dji workong with a 'ronin'? Gimble and a gopro 5. It is possible but SOMEBODY needs to make the gimbil to hold 19x19 or 14x14mm cameras. The code is out there for stabilization. I don't even mind 2 operators, but we need gimbles.....
yes! absolutely, and whilst you can find lateral flow sensors that can be used with arduino equipment, the problem is always "ok cool, but can it be integrated into a single board, with the precise software installed that works out of the box" and the answer is always no. It's infinitely harder to do this by hand than DJI has the ability to build precise, integrated, perfect pcb boards where you need to solder every connection by hand, they use a computer controlled device to build their boards. You just aren't capable of doing what they do.
Yeah INAV cannot replace mavic but at the same time MAVIC cannot replace INAV. DUDE INAV HAS IT'S OWN LEGACY. YOU HAVE NO WORRY OF CIRCLING SERVICE CENTRER WHEN YOU BROKE SOMETHING, YOU WILL BE PROUD OF THAT IT'S YOURS. YOU DID IT. IT'S EMOTIONAL.❤
Good report however one major advantage of a home built inav rig is there is no GEO FENCE
Yep. And with this argument I will forever not buy anything from DJI
There are way around that

The O3 isn’t the best system

I built an inav drone a year ago and I still haven't been able to fly it.
I find it to be extremely complicated.
Hello You trai the MTF 01 lidar sensor
I have tried. It's very good.
Mine should arrive the next few days..
That's amazing price value, range of 8 meters, accuracy of 2% and only 28-30€
Can not agree more!. I bought 5 pcs of those sensor. Works great
