- In this video, I show how a link belt can be used in place of a traditional fan belt to keep your equipment in the field with this quick repair.

Thanks ,I just lost the belt on my case 580c back hoe with the same setup .I woke up this morning and link belt popped into my head searched RUclips found your vid. Headed to harbor freight today!
This is a life saver, thank you
Thanks, Steve. I’ve got a JD 1520 w the same coupling issue blocking the new belt install. Couldn’t find anything on how to replace, not even in my manuals. Not looking fwd to front end disassembly. Will try the link belt first though. Thanks again.
Steve, I used a link belt on a Harbor Freight Milling machine to reduce vibration. It works well.
would be interested in an update later this fall. is it still going, how long did it last, price, where to get it, and so on ?
amazon. the stuff is amazing. i buy it in 48" sections. any extra goes on the last purchase for making or repairng belts later. . break one you replace a link and no vibration!
This is excellent. I have a 37 Plymouth Rat Rod I'm working on. It has a 396 Chevy engine somehow stuffed in it. I've been trying to figure out a way to change the belts without pulling the radiator off.
thankyou for this video, have an 8n with a loader on it and hydraulic pump parts are more or less stuck on untill they break so a link belt might ne my answer
That's cool. Didn't know anything like that existed. But it's a shame JD made it so hard to replace a fan belt. I guess they want you to pay them a days work to change it. 😬
A lot of tractors, dozers, etc. are made that way, unfortunately. I think it's a case where the engineer isn't a mechanic ;-)
I know exactly what you are dealing with that’s why I am here watching you . If you get this how good has it lasted ?
Let us know in a future video when this breaks, I am skeptical. I wonder if anyone used one on a planes alternator?
I'm not saying it's the be all end all, but it is the keep-you-running answer. When you live on a farm, things that can save you an entire day's work and keep you in the field while the weather allows are God sends. Hopefully, it will last a while, at least to a point where it's convenient to do a teardown of the front end to get a traditional belt on it.
@@stvbird Yes as I thought 2, but I question the longevity, I read they stretch a lot in the beginning.
@@publicmail2 I ran it for three hours after that video mowing and spraying. After the first hour, it stretched, but I think that's more a matter of the links fully seating under load for the first time. After that adjustment, it held well. I hooked my disc cutter up to that tractor today and plan on haying Friday. I'll let you know how that goes.
Can anyone attest that they bold up well under field temperatures and time?
Well? If it works on that big machine like that, it should work on my troy built tiller ...new oem belts with max adjustment just won't engage so , it could be bad sheaves and very expensive to go that route
Where did you source them Steve ? I won't ever own a new tractor .. so yeah and ion the roadside repair thing too .. even if it's a temp that gets you to the permanent one.
I got that one from Amazon. The link is in the description.
Less intro...More video please.😁
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, lol.
Any updates on the belt? Still working well?
Hi David. I recently posted an update video because you asked!
Lasted almost 30 seconds. Needed two to be long enough. That’s $72 I could’ve spent elsewhere. 😡
Was it the name brand? What did you use it on?
