Left side: Count 3
Right side: Count 4
Subdivision: 12 beats
MAJUSCLES: Accented beat (hand)
minuscles: normal beat
Word string emphasizing count 3: I can FEEL the RHY-thm
Word string emphasizing count 4: A PO-ly-RHYTH-mic FLOW
The use of word strings establishes the bridge between mind and body.
Please notice how the experience of the overall rhythmic pattern shifts when you shift your focus from the one string to the other!
It is not sufficient to memorize the word string. It is a guidewire but it may be pronounced without the intended accentuation, so listen to the rhythmic pattern and combine it with the two word strings! - Видеоклипы
PASS the GODdamn BUTter
favourite mnemonic for this rhythm lmao
This exercise is not only 4 against 3 (pass the goddamn butter). It is about 4 against 3 AND 3 against 4 for which reason two mnemonic lines are needed.
@@SkyeLfvander sorry can you or someone explain what is meant by understanding both 4 against 3 and 3 against 4. also what is an efficient way in understanding and feeling this. Im quite new to polyrhythms
@@beng2617 In polyrhythm there are two different counts at the same time. In this situation there is either 3 or 4 beats to the bar. Furthermore one of the counts will usually be the rhythmical foundation ('in your foot'), giving the overall feel of the rhythm and leaving the other count to an accompanying status.
4 against 3: In the mnemonic line "I can FEEL the RHY-thm" (or "PASS the GOD-damn BUT-ter") the 3 beats are accentuated (capital letters) and will lead you to the 3 count as the fundamental
.
3 against 4: In the mnemonic line "A PO-ly-RHYT-mic FLOW" 4 beats are accentuated (capital letters) and will lead you to the 4 count as the fundamental.
@@SkyeLfvander ohh okay that makes a lot more sense. thanks man I appreciate it.
This is a good exercise. Thank you for making this.
This is PolyMETER
Its all based off of a common 16th note.
An example of Poly rhythm would be triplet notes with one limb and quarter notes with another limb
Actually, it would be more correct to call it an example of crossrhythm, but as the overall category is polyrhythm, and as the exercise can help you to get the grip of a polyrhythmic figure, the headline is absolutely adequate. Thanks for your interest!
very cool!
I would use different sounds for 3 and 4 rhytms...makes it clearer
I am sorry, but the whole intention with the video is that it should allow you to jump between the counts 3 and 4 as dominant. If I had used different.sounds this important aspect would have vanished so I very deliberately used a uniform sound.
So far I’ve mastered 2:3, 4:3, and 5:3
You can check out our "Cadavre Exquis" as an exemple : ruclips.net/video/K72F1mejIaA/видео.html
The only rule was - playing 3 against 4 and pass the last 20" to the next one.
Spare, a dime, or F off/ spare, a dime, or F off/Spare...
fantasie impromptu anyone?
I'm using this video to help me learn it!
"See, the Crowd, on Sunday/See, the crowd, on Sunday..."
when i adjust the speed it glitches a lot and its not right anymore.
Sorry to hear that. I don't experience it. You may find the same exercise in different tempi as GIF-animation (without sound) at polymeter.tumblr.com
fucking hypnotic
so in this example is 4/4 the dominant rhythm or is 3/4 the dominant?
You decide the dominant rhythm by focusing either on the one or the other word string. It is written below the video! Enjoy!
Skye Løfvander that's cool thanks.
Pass the f'n butter
See comment and text below the video! I am aware of the butter. The word strings of the video were designed so that you can choose focus on either the one or the other count. The butter thing has count 3 as dominant.
