- In 2023, I visited Seattle, Washington in order to collect footage for my Layne Staley documentary. This is a few of the spots I visited and the mostly raw and uncut footage. I visited the homes of Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Mark Lanegan, Kristen Pfaff, Aberdeen and more.

I’m from Aberdeen! Born & raised, still live here too. It’s cool to see other people come from far away to visit our town for Kurt. Nobody here cares about Kurt or the memorial, so it’s nice to see people who do. I’m a big nirvana fan myself ❤
I visited Aberdeen for the first and so far the only time in my life back in 2018. I embarrassingly sobbed at Kurt's memorial by the bridge. Didn't expect to do that. I turned 38 that year so I was only 14 when Kurt died and had wanted to visit ever since then. To finally be there and to see his childhood home and for so many years being so hung up on whether he commited suicide or was murdered, to finally be there just hit me hard. In that moment it really didn't matter. That was someone who achieved their life's dream, a dream that so many others will never achieve and it cost him his life. He either felt so bad and so defeated that he ended his own, or there were snakes all around him. Either way it's really sad and my heart ached for him.
@@hellywise2542 thanks for sharing. One day i hope to visit aberdeen myself
Why doesn’t anyone there care about him? You’d think he’d be admired locally
Nice job man! This was awesome, I’m 50 now and this was my prime music era. Dear to my heart 🎸
Idem ! 🇨🇵 ..😊👍
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this. Not sure if I will ever be able to make it out there but this is amazing. I'm so glad you wrote something for Layne and showed us he also has a bench. ❤💕 Rest in Peace Layne and Kurt.
Seeing the Lake Washington house is still eerie emotional. Kurt should have been allowed to enjoy that house with his kid.
Addiction is horrible. I know personally. Thank God I was able to quit cold turkey and never had to battle with cravings. I know that is not the norm, but I have seen others battle. But, the battle is worth it. Sobriety is possible, and every addict is worth it. Love to all.
I went to Kurt's house in 97 with this girl who claimed to have known him and Courtney Love. We walked right up to this guy standing in the driveway who happened to be her realtor.
did she mention anything about courtney? I’m starting to hear that Kurt and Courtney weren’t the only ones in the house I’ve heard things about a nanny in which a 15 year old girl or something like that was they’re they actually heard kurt’s gun shot but courtney mentioned that shell check the greenhouse later then 3 days passed and kurt was found dead by the guy who was going to install a camera
Actually the greenhouse and the garage were demolished. The garage you see that's next to the house is new.
I was looking for this comment
Quitting is whats horrible
I am an ex H addict from Seattle, specifically Capital Hill. Back in the early/mid'90's when grunge hit. I used to run into Layne. It makes me sad now. Sad that he never got clean😢
I'm so happy you got clean from H. I'm a former meth addict. I wish all addicts knew sobriety is so possible and that they are worth it. I may not know you personally, but I am so proud of you. God bless you and yours.
Hi. Im a ex H. addict myself, been in methadone programme since 2009.. Im from Europe and we got a lot of opiods circulating everywhere. I can smell the streets just looking at the picture/movies from Seattle; cold and unforgiving. Lonely.. I doubt the H. epidemic is far from over, sadly. If youve been shooting H for +10 years, you know what hassle and pain an opiod addict goes thru, and what negative impact it makes in life. Stay safe and God bless you
Hi janie
@@Y-jj7yt hey there! Yes, getting on methadone saved my life!! I wish more people would give it a chance. There's a lot of negativity surrounding it- but my life is so much better now! From what I have seen the biggest opiate crisis now isn't heroin but Fentanyl. I got clean before those blue pills were around. Thank God!! Congratulations on being clean too!
@@tonyascarlett2413 Hi!! You're so sweet to say that! I'm proud of you too 🤗 ! I was addicted to meth before I started H. It was the first drug I used intravenously. 😢 I was barely 18 and so naive!
I appreciate you:) thanks!
I traveled to Seattle from Houston back in 2000. I did bunch of tourist stuff but the coolest place I visited was The Vogue. All the Seattle bands played there and at the time that I visited, the place looked like a shrine to the Seattle scene.
Ahhhh the Vogue, every sunday night =) I miss the old days
i visited Seattle back in the year 2000 - for two weeks i had been running down from 6th avenue to Kurts house and with each walking trip i made a detour to discover something new before going back home to europe - as 90's teenager and fan of the scene this trip was like a headliner to fullfill and ease down a deep feeling inside to must have walking those streets
Thanks for this, good to see the spots I have read so much about 👊🏻
Great footage thank you!!! Wish it was me because going to Seattle and visit those places are on my bucket list. Hope you had enough fun for the both of us 😄☮
I stayed at the Westin Excelsior in Rome for a few nights back in early 09. We stayed in suite 541, which a staff member later told me that’s where Kurt od’d. Apparently he was on the shower floor when EMS arrived. It was a little strange using that shower knowing that…
Other than that, it’s exceptionally beautiful, but very expensive.
Thanks for this! As a Gen-X grunge fan from Cincinnati, the only place I wanna go is Seattle. I wish there was more in the way of tributes to Layne 😢. I will get there someday, and this is a good guide for when I do!
I live west if Seattle. Seattle is not what it use to be. Always remember a drug scene but it's lost its real culture and has gotten worse. I refuse to go and I am a ferry ride away.
@@heatherrose3554 Damn, that makes me sad. I’m sure it’s hard for you to see those changes in your city 😞
I was at kurts house october last year. I wasnt prepared for the emotion i felt. My breathing and talking were shuttering
I’ve always wanted to visit these locations but haven’t because I didn’t want to intrude or come across disrespectful. Thank you for making this video. FYI… The Rainbow Tavern was not just a “no big deal” establishment. It had a rich history of musical appearances. Bo Diddly, Robert Cray, Willie Dixon, Fishbone…. Just to name a few. ✌🏼❤️🇨🇦
I just visited Kurt‘s house, first time since 94. A few days before the bench was burned down. Went by Layne’s place for the first time too that day.
Damn man this was very cool - thank you for taking me along on such "unintentional" hallowed ground; I love your respect for it as well. You have a great eye and a new sub. Thank you
the mad season cover being carved into the bench blew my fucking mind. people are amazing!
I always feel like they tried to make Layne into Kurt but they were not alike in the least
Sadly the only thing they had in common was their drug of choice. Two completely different people. Layne has the best voice I have ever heard in my lifetime.
I was up in Seattle a few weeks ago on my last day there me and my gf drove passed Kurt’s house it was kinda hard to see because it was hidden behind all these bushes and trees but we stopped the car and peaked through the bushes and got to see the house but than on the way out we discovered a nude beach up the street I never would’ve guessed
Seems like you're being overly guarded would have liked to see the Silver/Cornell house where Cantrell and Vedder both stayed when the scene was taking off worldwide...
Thank you it was very interesting to see
CL did it
According to Joe Burns it was Dylan Carlson and Daniel Clint Rich, under the talons of CL who snuffed Kurt.
Really cool seeing Mark’s Apartment and the funny visuals I have of him talking about his landlords window being right out front and having to walk by it when late on rent
great job! love this
I just wanna add thT its so great to see these actual locations. Im From ny so i always pictured kristin pfaffs apt to becin like an old big victorian like in Albany. Thats partof my frame of reference. Ofc ive been to nyc but im Sure theres different in Many ways
That is why its so important to people to be able to see things like this imo. And you were so discrete and considerate about it. ❤
Layne lived in the apartment at the front of the building, top left
Woah that's rlly cool tysm for this :]
Solid video man, thanks for sharing
Your voice and how you speak kind of reminds me of Kurt.
Seattle seems a sad place… maybe the weather???
It's grey and rainy 9 months of the year which definitely gives it a vibe. You can see why people spend a lot of time indoors playing music or hanging out at bars. But the summer months are sunny and warm and there are all kinds of outdoor festivals and events. It's a much "happier" place during the summer.
@@garysimonson1135 thank you for this information! are you from Seattle?
@@heavymetal1330 I've lived here since 2005 but grew up in California.
@@garysimonson1135 cool! I’ve always wanted to go to Seattle. I’ve been a grunge since kid (back in the 90s). Especially because of kurt and layne… The closest I’ve been to was Las Vegas lol… maybe one day! I am from Brazil!
@@heavymetal1330 It's a really cool place and I would recommend visiting for sure (especially in the summer)! It's gotten very wealthy since the Grunge era because of the tech boom (It used to be a much more blue collar town, now it's more like San Francisco). But sadly it still does have a pretty major homeless and drug problem, like many American cities.
😢 Layne Staley’s death soo sad! His love of his life Demri passes away then he wants nothing to do with the world. Like, Romeo & Juliet 🫶🏼
I love your documentary video! I really want to go to Seattle someday in my lifetime. Very sad to see the Greenhouse is gone.. made a tear in my eye..
. It's not what it use to be. Used to ride the ferry over a lot in the 90's but Seattle is near gone.
One thing you missed is the Aberdeen welcome sign that added the slogan "Come as You Are"
I REALLY HOPE the town doesn't tear that bridge down like I heard on FB; hope its fake news,,,,there's going to be a ton of pissed off fans!
thank you for showing there homes seen laynes but never kurt or mark
Stayed in rm 226 in 2021 for 2 days... it is awesome. There's messages secretly placed throughout the entire room. There's also a few items in the room that are original and kurt would have touched. Also went to layne's condo, as well as Kurt's house!
Some of Lanegan’s stuff & some old tapes were found in a purchased storage unit. ‘06? I also nearly suffocated a few feet away from Layne at The Peony Park outdoor concert tent in ‘93? Everyone was going crazy “partying,” but Layne looked sickly. First & last (in my face) heroin addict experience. Had to be lifted out. My hip bone was being destroyed against plywood, since in front. Incredible concert though! I healed up, but got cancer in that area yrs later. 😅
Keep it sacred by not signing.
The house went on the market like 4 years ago for 7.5 million.
Really good job mate. Very respectful.
Sarcasm?
@@prepro595 no. He was trying to be respectful, a lot more than most people would, I imagine.
Great video man! Very somber, but great video
Kurt and Layne rock 🐐🐐 's rip.
I still wanna watch any kind of Kurt Cobain video people like us never forgotten
That's very quite town to live, i wonder how could this town produce many bands group and changing music industries...they left they music legacy anyway to change the rock music...90's is the best era....gratefully i was born at 70's so i had experiences in any era's until present...btw i live in indonesia, far far away from us, i m still grunge enthusiast...
Thanks for sharing 👍👍
I cant BELIEVE someone left a used RIG there!!!!
Both musicians HATED the fact their use could inspire others!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Courtney sold the house in 1997 to family. i believe of Kurts i read, and then Courtney or the family stopped paying on the house from my understanding, and it was taken and put on the market to be sold. Id love to know who bought it
Your voice sounds like Kurt.
Cool video, you sound a bit like Tom Green 😊
I drive past Kurt’s house all the time and it’s weird you can feel him there or something
Shut up
I totally agree. I drive by all the time. I feel the same thing most times.
Green house is gone tore it down 😅
the fencing is so much 😂 why do people even buy the property know its from kurt cobain do they expect people to stop showing up??
anyways no the garage is new too the who buidling the greenhouse was destroyed even the garage, theres a video of 1997 of people showing the old garage without the green house. i went in 2020 also made i video its on my channel. i find it crazy how there no footage of the property inside the house of lakeview washington
i’ve been searching for years to find footage of the interior of the house, there’s NOTHING 😭
I could've shown you around town
I heard the wishka reiver has some of his ashes in it
thanks, you still there ?is there a grunge or rock bar or club in WA where you can hear Nirvana ? thanks
Youre very polite. I love 5hat❤
I’m confused as to what happened first. Was it the gunshot first and the the lethal dose, or the lethal dose then the gunshot?
also wonder about the music bank the rehearsal hall
So has nobody indulged in the Joe Burns and Chris Todd work?
Somehow I knew there would be a syringe on the park bench.💉 Thats Seattle for you.
They are planning on destroying the bridge.. :/
I’m nirvana fan
Same I hate that Kurt Cobain is not here but when it’s somebody’s time to go, it’s time to go RIP
@@Charlie_130 i hate when people say one of those 10 most popular songs is their favorite
@@Charlie_130 bro Kurt cobain would’ve died any way
@@airsoftguncollectionsIt doesn’t matter if someone only likes the popular songs, they’re popular for a reason, don’t gatekeep music
@@UnidentifiedToastProductions fair enough i js generally think those are overated
Nice...and sad, tnx! Rip Giants! Fkn Nirvanaa!
We just give Layne's stuff to jerry. You didn't grt the memo
Rock candy, Off ramp Hash after the bash ? 😂
15:29 the needle is sucks
I like my own comments
lol.
I can't like mine because RUclips keeps deleting them.
Who doesn't?
Me too cuz I'm shadow banned.
As well do i
When Layne lost demri he couldn't handle it
For sure. Maybe they are together now...
As an active addict, I can honestly say that this disease tells us to 'feck it' anytime we can spot the tiniest excuse to use.
The Dad of my 2 boys threw a nasty comment at me a few days ago saying that I'll end up like Layne in my apartment, and that he wishes I would just die so he could get on with his life.
It was like a knife threw my heart guys.
@@Racheltheirishlady well that's a very horrible thing to say to your kid! I am so sorry your dad said that to you. Take care 🥰
1997-2002 is 5 years not 6 lol
Great video, but maybe don’t take pictures over gates
I wanna go to Seattle so bad, man... I think if I were standing before Layne's condo, I would just stand there in tears the whole day 🥲
I work right across the street from Laynes place. See it everyday. Sometimes I just look at it in amazement from the roof of my building and just think.
Whats SHIE?
Hed het room 226 from (I forget the PUNK BANDS name) it was a song. Sex drugs and party in 226
Dead boys maybe? Cant recall
What a lovely tribute....right by the dumpster. Ps- Im sure people write things and managament has to clean it up. You kids have no respect for nothing.

If I was the cause for every single housewife in America buying Doc Martens overnight I'd probably an hero as well😅😅😅
Murica
Kurt was murdered unfortunately
No it was suicide
Gift cards?
Welcome to grunge where only the 🤬holes have big houses 😎🥃🚬
Actually, grunge IS dead...
Seattle is trash now. In the 80’s and 90’s was different.
It was trash in the 80s compared to the 50s. From a regular blue collar family point of view, Cobain represented Seattle's decline.
Layne got the wall by the dumper 🤣😎🥃🚬 clsssy people 🤣😎🥃🚬
That tent is where kurt lived 🤣
The syringe in the bench 😂💉💦
Cool dead junkie rock star homes.
Jesus is the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the father but through him. No man made religions required.
I really enjoyed that thankyou 🙂
Ah yes, the grunge era music. The songs that encourage suicide…. What a bunch of losers!
Who the f*** is Lane?
Read a fucking book
How do u know Nirvana but not know Alice in Chains
Don't you admire Nancy Layne's Mom. Who tentatively ID'D her beloved son. By the way sir you are trespassing if you don't have a room . As far as Kurt he probably blew his head 😮 off. Click bait😅
I don’t think you know what clickbait means.
