I still remember the track announcer saying that the driver had to hit the ramp at exactly 40 mph or the car would land wrong on the catch ramp. The American Thrill show always used AMC Gremlins, Hornets and the Astro Spiral car was usually a Javelin. I remember seeing "Crash" the clown being towed behind a car on his feet.....wild show and great drivers.

The stunt eventually made its way into The Man with the Golden Gun

I'd guess it's possible that more people have walked on the moon than have performed an astro-spiral car jump.

Do you have ALL episodes? of this, my favorite show ever. Bud was the MAN. Im looking for an old USAC stock car race Bud covered in 1968 or 1969 in northeast WI., eithere Green Bay or Shawno raceway for the Facebook USAC group. Its out there somewhere...

You are the 2nd person to ask me about that USAC Stock Car race in Wisconsin. Sorry, I don't have it. That race has become the Holy Grail of USAC Stock Car fans apparently.

For the record, I believe that the race in question was run at Wisconsin International in Kaukauna.

Kaukauna is the track, yes. For those who were involved the footage i saw would be the clearest, longest, most concise footage of ANY USAC stock race run, EVER, with the exception of that 62’ Milwaukee race and 67’ IRP. Thats pretty impressive knowing which track im talking about... THANKS FOR THE POSTS, they mean the world to me, i saw what was shown here at the Milwaukee Mile cool stuff, its nice to know i wasnt the only one watching the speed channel history programmes. There are MORE old NASCAR races from the 50s that i remember that i havent seen on you tube yet. Im working on it, theres gotta be a way

That additional wheel underneath hit a tab on the ramp that initiated the spin.
