I'm positive this man understands the universe unlike any other mortal man.

@caseyshorb8103Texans are a different breed. With a different view on life. Everything is hard and hot and unforgiving. With respect.

"Don't open my eyes to nothin' like truth. Just leave it all lost in the wind let it hide in the blindness of youth"
This song is unreal. The only song keeping me sane. It expresses my crazed and delusional mind in a perfect way.

I can't believe that this song has drawn no comments yet! James is a natural storyteller, with a flair for making the ordinary sound transcendent. He is a genuine troubador...

Sadly, I did not discover this man until 2010.
Mcmurtry, Bingham, Hubbard and the like is about all I listen to anymore if I'm not playing 60s, 70s or early 80s.

The most profound Musician that most of the world (Including Nashville) obviously never heard. Think,
Bob Dylan writing, actual pleasing voice , plus mad guitar skills! Does it his way…and Father was James Mc Murthy,(of Lonesome Dove writing Fame)!

Just one of my all time favorite McMurtry songs. I was lucky enough to hear him sing it live a couple years back. "Just leave it all lost in the wind, let it hide in the blindness of youth..."

That's what I think sometimes - When I was a kid, I got lost in the backyard when I went out to play, and this is all just a dream.

James is the real deal ,don't care much about little gold paper weights or Nashville and their fashion show , saw him at Mojo's in Columbia MO at the end of the show stepped off the stage walked straight to my wife and I said ( alright thanks for coming out) I FROZE UP

I've loved this guy since he came out with "Where's Johnny?" back in the '90s. Glad to see he's not so obscure anymore! His lyrics are poignant and his guitar playing is stellar.

I said "this is the last time"
    A few times ago
    But once more it's happened
And that's all in the world I know
    I still hear the echo
When you hung up the phone
I feel like I'm lost in the back yard
    Just trying to get home.
I woke up in a strange world
    I can aptly describe
It's like the streets of a town where I lived
When I was too young to drive
    It all looks so familiar
But I can't find my way
I must have got lost in the back yard
When I went out to play
    Don't open my eyes
    To nothing like truth
Just leave it all lost in the wind
Let it hide in the blindness of youth
    The facts of the matter
    Most likely will always remain
And I guess I'll be lost in the back yard
    Till I get home again

Tallish girl looks like wife in youth. Ending lick sounds nice on my Collings Baby parlor guitar. Roots in good Gospel music. Thank you James from Arlington, Va.

This video of floating lips and teeth is disgusting. But McMurtry's original ballad music is at its best with Lost in the Backyard. A damn brilliant Austin area music genius whom I never tire of listening to.
