What a great way to start my day. What agreat old pattern. I really love the origianl Grab Gape haven't had a chance to use the heavies yet. Thanks so much. Now off to work to pay for more material.
Early good morning here Davie. I've been out of service for a bit so I am catching up. I love this pattern! I can't say orange is a successful color for me, but if I like a pattern I tend to fish it more thoroughly. Nice work, though I suspe't that is a pretty redundant comment. I'm still working on Pig hair and I just bought a bunch of Musk Ox if you want to try it.
Hey Davie, would you be willing to tie a sow bug or scud? or both? I've been trying to find a pattern that works well here where I fish, or in tailwaters. (most rivers here have them) So I caught some of the naturals, took pictures, and they look nothing like the flies I have seen so far. They are light in colour, usually tan and semi-transparent! and they are so so tiny! the biggest ones I could find were at the very most a size 28 hook comparatively. That said the fish are loaded with them! small midge larva, scuds, and sowbugs are the primary food right now.
i fish the Provo River in Utah, canyon section of the Lower. I've caught 2 rainbows out of dozens of fish the last summer/fall. I find that with barbless hooks I lose probably 25% of the fish on the catch...If you're not really on your game, fishing barbless can be quite frustrating.
nice to see a master at work

Just got a supply of quite similar hooks …. Will try up a few for my box …. have little doubt it is a fish catcher! Thanks!👍

Whiting farms periodically checks for "twist" if they select a feather and it twists, they end the line right there.
