Is it okay to wish for materialistic wellness for yourself (and your spiritual friend) when doing Metta such as wealth etc?

When I complained about my lack of progress after three years of intensive practice my first Dharma teacher, she was a nun, told me that we don’t work for results in this life but for results in future lives. She also said that wanting results in this life is selfish. How different from what that monk is saying. My Buddhist philosophy teacher, I was Gelugpa, even told me that meditation can be dangerous and should be avoided. He could explain the subtle differences between the Chittamatra and the Yogachara but he was a proud non-meditator. How stupid is that ?

That's sad. The Buddha suffered many life times so that we could meditate right NOW and attain Nibbana. And you can if you follow the instructions in the EARLIEST teachings.
