I hope this video covers ALL the questions that you guys asked me! From this trip, we landed a 85" and a 63" sturgeon in which those videos are yet to be edited and uploaded. I got TONS of videos coming your guy's way! Enjoy!
I just moved to Richland, WA from the Texas Gulf Coast. I really appreciate your videos and I can't wait to get my WA fishing license after all of this Coronavirus, Covid-19 starts to calm down. Thanks to you, I am ready to go Sturgeon fishing!
Very well done vids. Nice tech and helpful tips. I have been Sturgeon fishing for 30 years, and also in areas you fish. (you probably know me) Not many understand the thrill of catching oversize monster fish. I hope your videos will help others to be successful and also enjoy the catch. Im getting up in years so my days may be numbered. Sturgeon fishing has been a high-lite of my life. Last year a 9 footer about did me in. I only fish for oversize and will perhaps try the Delta this year for a monster catch. I love to help others catch these fish, I hand off rods to those who have not caught a Sturgeon. It's almost as much fun watching the expressions and excitement of others. Good luck with this years trips. ~ Evo Jim
Thanks, Jim. The excitement of fighting these oversized beasts is second to none. My goal of making this video was definitely to just help out those who want to catch sturgeon. For me, my sturgeon fishing addiction has only begun and hope that I will have many, many more years of fishing for these fish. Thanks for watching and commenting, and good luck to you on your future trips as well.
Samong, pretty good video my fellow fisherman. Ya need to look into a product called magic thread for securing your mesh both to the bait and the hook, great stuff for that. Also here in Idaho we couldn't use that weight and hook setup, we're required to use a sliding weight.
Here in the west coast , we use eel with big night crawlers or salmon eggs .. not the one for trouts but original eggs from salmon. But overall love the vids! Keep it coming 🙂
Where do you catch the big ones? I want to go out there next month and spend a couple days sturgeon fishing and I want to catch a big one. It's probably the only time I'll try to catch a sturgeon there because you have to release them but I still just want to catch him because they're big fish
Hmm. That's a good video to do, but will take some time with just me thinking of what I need to show you and how to do it. I'll work on it but it may or may not take some time. Thanks for the suggestion!
I am at the opposite end of the spectrum. I use 300-350 yards of Gamma Polyflex in 12 pound test. I need the extra yardage for the insanely long runs the sturgeon make in the Wisconsin river below the dams. The water is also very deep. Have never snapped off on a running fish. Gamma claims their line is about twice the strength of it’s rating and in my experiences I would agree.
People have caught sturgeon with frozen herring so yes it works. I've personally have never used frozen herring, but I have used pickled herring. They all work. We've just had better luck with fresh bait.
up here in bc almost everyone uses 100lb+ braid for main line. i also use a rig where the weight is tied on to a slider with 30 lb mono. the smallest weight i would use would be 8 ounce here and highest would be 14 ounces. salmon roe is one of the best baits here
Most guys in BC fish off boat so they don't need as much line he uses lower line so he can have hundreds of yards to work with plus BC sturgeon are bigger
No. This is down at the snake river. However, sturgeon fishing has been very slow lately up at the Columbia for us which is why we decided to go to the snake this trip.
The majority of the snake is catch and release only. I remember reading the regulations about something about the mouth of the snake that is legal to retain sturgeon. However, this part is indeed catch and release only. All of my videos posted up right now is at the Columbia. I will have the snake river sturgeon videos posted up some time next week. Thanks for watching!
i had also lost my top pole by launching it from shore. . I had to send in the bottom piece to get a new pole send back . It sucks that the shipping cost as much as the pole so i had a fishing sport store send it in for free for me..I did it twice cause my brother also lost his...
We usually use heavy 10-13ft rods and 40-50lb line. I've seen people pull in sturgeon with steelhead rods though. It's personal preference, but we like to stay on the side of heavier gear.
We use mono simply because it fights abrasion on rocks a lot better than braid. Braid simply gets cut like butter if you are fishing somewhere where it's rocky in which about all the places we fish are rocky. If one was to use a spinning combo though, I would recommend braided line.
@@albu6147 Everyone has their own techniques and go-to equipment. You can't go wrong with any of it, but you will have to play around until you find what best fits you and your style of fishing. This is simply how we do it.
It happens lol. We were close to getting spooled on this trip on an 85", but luckily she turned around for us when we tried to force her to turn around.
Nice set up I set up a little bit different then that you do I’m going to try your setup! We should hook up sometime and make a collaboration video! Great video !
Here in Idaho we can’t rig like this our weight has to be on a swivel on our main line sliding up and down we used to be able to rig like this but they changed the law

Show us how you cook it. I'm going sturgeon fishing this fall for opening. Thanks
Isn't the legal leader line lenght to your hook is 18"..........
Perhaps where you live, it is. Different places have different regulations. Here, there is no regulation on what length your leader must be.
They're endangered an illegal to fish in Virginia Rivers and Chesapeake Bay I love to watch for the to Breach
if you want to fish for some big boy sturgeon come up to bc

Nice job brother

For sure. Tons of bait to use for sturgeon. Again, no right, no wrong. Thanks for watching!
This is a great video! We should get together and fish! There's a keeper day coming up in oregon for sturgeon in rufus
Hmu when you go out sturgeon fishing this season ,I'm in Portland but am more than down to drive out your way for a weekend sturgeon excursion!
Thanks man i tried your setup to catch lake sturgeon in Montreal and it works !!

is this the rig you used when you caught the big sturgeon at Washington state??? I want to try your rig, cause I always use the fish finder slide.
Yes. All of the sturgeon I caught so far is off this rig.
Samong Yang Outdoors ok thanks! Ill give it a shot
Thank you, I really enjoy your video.
awesome videos! can you show us a video of how to detect a sturgeon bite??
Hmm. That's a good video to do, but will take some time with just me thinking of what I need to show you and how to do it. I'll work on it but it may or may not take some time. Thanks for the suggestion!
Man great question, I’m all ears too. Love you man!
Nice lost an 8 footer last week what a bummer, ill just have to try again. tight lines alway.
What size is the best for crappie or bule fill for bait
Never seen that rig before...ima give it a try
I am going to give it a try also here in the California Bay Area's Delta.
athomerecordschannel how did this rig work?
Have you ever used bait elastic? I think you would find it helpful.
Good vid I would like to go sturgen fishing somtime
Thanks. You should man, it's good fun.

Dang, that's pretty cool. Gotta do what you gotta do to catch them! They sure don't lie if you haven't had that snap on you! That's awesome.
How did you do the rod extension plz?
It's just a hollow aluminum tube that we out over the original rod handle. Customize it to your liking and fit!
This was a great video. Thanks bro
I like your approach brutha straight what it is no BS thats right bro keep it up 🍻🍻🍻
thoughts on using braid instead of mono line when going for sturgeon?
What are good rivers and how far up those river should I try fishing them.
if you decided to invest in a longer heavier setup rodgeeks has a line of 13 foot surf rod blanks and they can throw up to 16 ounces and bait
What state are you in?
A tri-swivel seems perfect for your rig.
So would frozen herring work? That’s not considered fresh so now im worried lol.about to do my first sturgeon trip this weekend
People have caught sturgeon with frozen herring so yes it works. I've personally have never used frozen herring, but I have used pickled herring. They all work. We've just had better luck with fresh bait.
Samong Yang Outdoors thank you for taking the time to reply :) also, thank you for your channel.awesome content and many appreciate it
Is the north channel of the St. Clair river good for sturgeon fishing?
I wish I could tell you, but I've never fished the St. Clair river before. But, you can't catch fish anywhere unless your bait is in the water!
Thanks
Could you show me how you increased the length of the ugly stick please.

Another informative video, thanks much!
No problem. Thanks for watching! 👊

Is this place in Kettle Fall?
How is the Sturgeon fishing there?
No. This is down at the snake river. However, sturgeon fishing has been very slow lately up at the Columbia for us which is why we decided to go to the snake this trip.
snake is only catch and release right?

I'm subbing I have a reel with 420 yards of 65 lbs braid on a conventional with a heavy action will that work
It should

What's an ideal rod length 7 ft, 40-60 lbs line?
We usually use heavy 10-13ft rods and 40-50lb line. I've seen people pull in sturgeon with steelhead rods though. It's personal preference, but we like to stay on the side of heavier gear.
What’s the best tide to fish for sturgeon
I want to buy. A reel for stuegeron is 6000 series spinning reel good or should i go bigger?
PhotographyJo- Taj Alami I use the quantum optix 80 with 80lb braid
Hey just curious y you fish mono vs braid?
We use mono simply because it fights abrasion on rocks a lot better than braid. Braid simply gets cut like butter if you are fishing somewhere where it's rocky in which about all the places we fish are rocky. If one was to use a spinning combo though, I would recommend braided line.
Thanks so I started fishing up here in BC you said you would go with 50lbs y not more. I keep being told to get 150 or more

What is the best time for sturgeon fishing
We do the best during June and July.
thanks for the info it really helped
No problem. Good luck and tight lines!
Instead of using mesh netting you can use a longer leader and tie half hitches with the leader around the bait
Absolutely. No right, no wrong!
Why don’t you use braid?
great attitude ...
I feel like a 3 way swivel would be better for this rig
I lost a oversize last year. spool my whole reel
It happens lol. We were close to getting spooled on this trip on an 85", but luckily she turned around for us when we tried to force her to turn around.
Omg that sounds like a dream come true!
You should just use a 3way swivel
I use 80 lb test
Awesome. I know a lot of different people use a wide variety of line. Again, no right no wrong. You use what works for you!
nice and simple thanks
Sturgeon are not picky they like easy meals
You need at least 130lb rated main line in 2022.
My luck I would lose a lot of Weights if I tied it to a lighter line.
go trouy fishing
Trout season is kinda over for me. But just maybe. 😉
To many commercials
My rig is way better.
