  • Was this really a layover or just a quick stop for Hainan chicken rice?

Singapore is Asia's most expensive city for luxury living, not for a tourist who eats at a hawker centre* or a coffee shop, takes the public transport, buys his stuffs at a supermarket and stays in a hotel that provides only lodging. *Newton Hawker Centre and the one outside Botanic Gardens are for tourists.

I went to Singapore twice- one in 2008 and 2014. I stayed only stayed in either 4 or 5 star hotels. Way back then, they were affordable. But oh my gosh! I just wanted to book an overnight stay at Sg this time but even the 2 or 3 star hotels are so expensive for a family of 4! They're ranging from $300 and above. No breakfast and the hotels looked very meh! The ones I'd normally stay at are from $800 and above online via Booking, Agoda, etc....Luckily, I'm an IHG member and decided to book directly with the hotel. Guess what? I got us a really nice 4-star- hotel with 2 queen size beds, with breakfast included, and situated adjacent to the Orchard Rd! It pays to do your own research. And thank goodness I watched this reel one time saying that it's best to book directly with the hotels. I only paid $380 for this 4-star-hotel.

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but where did you put your luggage? Do they transfer it to your next flight?

p.s. very valid question (not dumb at all)

Hi Martin, great content you made for your 5 hour layover in singapore and i really enjoyed it. Did you use taxi or train ongoing after the maxwell food centre? I just want to make the most time during my 6 hour layover in Singapore. Also what time the latest you gave yourself to check in for departure. Thanks.

Thank you!! I actually walked after visiting Maxwell! I only took a taxi from the airport to maxwell and then back to the airport after visiting the gardens! I got to the airport around 2 hrs before departure. Plenty of time! Changi is super efficient!

The average chicken rice in Singapore is actually closer to $3.50~$5, and sometimes $5.5 with a plate of vege. Glad u enjoyed the food in Singapore!
