If you ever get back to Gerry Rafferty, you should do “Get it Right Next Time”.
Live.
Or "Home And Dry"
Absolutely!
Gerry Rafferty has such a distinctive voice!
Oh, boy, I remember this one for sure. My older sisters would listen to this on their green ball radio on a chain.
I had a green ball radio on a chain , toooooo !!!!!
GREAT song!!!! ✌❤
I think it's time for some Simply Red on the channel. You can go smooth/sentimental with "Holding Back The Years", "If You Don't Know Me by Now", "Stars" or you can go to the groove side with "Come to My Aid", "Money’s Too Tight (to Mention)", "Something Got Me Started", "It's Only Love" , "Sunrise" and so on. Anyway you choose, you will certainly enjoy it.
I didn't realize this was Gerry Rafferty, until I heard the voice. I thought this song was WAY before his time. I'm learning so much from you young folk. ;) Thanks, Boys. Love you, Nick! Sighhhh........ ;)
It says on Wikipedia that this went to #6 on the billboard easy listening chart in 1974. Never heard this one.
Paisley's finest at their best!
Great video reaction, guys! 🙂
Great ole tune
Even though Stealers Wheel was only together for 3 years during the early 70s. Joe Egan and Gerry Rafferty were instrumental in forming the group. Stuck in the Middle with You was their biggest hit. You know when you watched the news with live reporting from the front lines of Vietnam and the ongoing racial tensions in the U.S., many songs from across the world emerged. It was a great time though and I wouldn't change anything about it.
If Ryan wants more harmonica you should check out Ozark Mountain Daredevil’s “If You Want to Get to Heaven (You Need to Raise a Little Hell)
Somewhat Beatlesque. Good song.
Not Gerry Rafferty singing lead on this one, it's written and sung by Joe Egan (i.e. the other bloke, who didn't have a post-Stealers Wheel smash); their voices are quite similar but Egan's a little raspier compared to Rafferty's 'smoother' vocals. The entire Ferguslie Park album is first rate BTW. But in general...yeah, you'll probably appreciate Gerry's solo stuff more.
I like the kazoo, its different.
Definitely a tribute to the Beatles, Rafferty sounds like Lennon, it's uncanny. An unrecognized gem from Rafferty and company.
Ryan, if you'd like to hear, arguably, the greatest harmonica performance by a rock band, J Geils Band's "Whammer Jammer" is pretty legendary. It's three minutes of amazing bluesy, gritty, fast-paced harmonica played as the LEAD instrument, with the rest of the band playing back up. Even if you choose not to bring this suggestion to the channel, I encourage you to listen to it on your own time.
"To be honest I didn't think we would ever have this band back on the channel." Neither did 47k of us.
This was actually a pretty good song. I thought it was a nice, happy, bouncy Beatlesesque tune with a really nice, rich, smooth-as-silk Gerry Rafferty baritone, and I counted at least a dozen instruments there, including said kazoo. 😂
Now do Gerry Rafferty's best song ever, "Home Nad Dry." You will really appreciate him so much when you hear this.
Fergus-lee Park, is the actual pronunciation (a housing estate/scheme in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland). 🙂
This is a fun little Diddy... Yes, very Beatles circa Help or Sgt. Peppers. This is not Gerry's vocal but it is good! We know you are not being insensitive... It really was drug based music in the 60's (not all but a lot). They may say Sunday stroll because Sunday is the day of rest. Back in the day people went to church and spent time with friends and family (businesses were closed). So just a relaxing Sunday afternoon. This not something I'd seek out. But it was sweet and fun! Not many probably react to this. Thank you for what you bring to the table.
It is, in fact, a kazoo! I like this one better than stuck in the middle!
Everyone in the 70's was partaking of smoking weed. Everybody. I know, I was there!
This album has aged well.
Love the entire album. The production is thick and gorgeous. You picked a good one. So early '70s. I've been listening to this album since I was 12 (I had a much older brother).
Loved and remembered this song since I was a kid and only knew who did it when the Internet came along. You have to watch the video of Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan screwing around performing this song for a dead audience on German TV and then you have to see the cool dude at the end of the video.
The video is called Stealers Wheel - Star (1974)
Did anyone else get a "Beatles" vibe from this song. I am not familiar with this song or this group. It certainly reminded me of an old Beatles song though. Great reaction... Take care...
At last - someone delves beyond their big hit to check out some Stealer's Wheel! "Right or Wrong" next? or "Everything Will Turn Out Fine"? PS - Fergus-LEE :)
I wonder if this song was meant as a way to honor The Beatles or as a satire. Given the instruments and lyrics, it's not impossible that the song was meant to chide the members of The Beatles for their public personas as "stars" in the early 1970s. Just a thought.
#HereForTheKazoo 😂
I don't know if the boys mentioned that it is Joe Egan and Gerry (Baker Street) Rafferty performing Star
By the way the video to Stuck In The Middle was made after Gerry Rafferty left the band. An absolute classic but the video was gross 😂
Please explore more Gerry Rafferty. Either City to City or Night Owl. The Ark would be a deep cut from C2C.
I LOVE Gerry Rafferty! Have you done "Baker Street?" It's just amazing.
Yes, they have.
@@dannysunay4386 I'll have to check it out~
Liked when the piano came in. It does get you moving. I'll say drugs were around that scene. but not all did them. People where just talented back then. Didn't need help like a lot do know.
Never heard this before. But it is DEFINITELY Beatles influenced. A happy little ditty but it's not for me. I like Stuck In The MIddle With You much better.
Alice Cooper-Billion Dollar Babies(73)
Agree, not a fan of this song. Love stuck in the middle with you but that video sucks...haha
You guys primarily do oldies .Try War On Drugs " Harmonias Dream" live on Austin City Limits 2023. Its better than a lot of oldies.
It's 1973. Musical tastes were what they were then.
60's and 70's Drugs: the original Artificial Intelligence.
Could you please please please review “Since you’ve been gone “by Rainbow
Decent song, excellent band though. I know Ryan likes his woodwind instruments. Me too... I'm looking for a girl who loves sax.
Stuck in the Middle sounds a lot like
Bob Dylan - Hurricane
Though Steelers came out first, so there entirled to a borrowed song
BTW A must reaction , basd on falsleu convicted boxer Hurricane Carter. Great movie starrig Denzel Washington
🙋🏼♀️ you guys need a website let me know
~ Sorry, it's not the first kazoo, there's also a kazoo in the "Logical Song" by Supertramp.
"Star' was 6 years before "logical song" so don't know what your point is😮
@@dougreed2257 I think she was replying to Nick's question as to if "Star" was the first reaction they've done to a song where kazoo appears. She was pointing out that the "Logical Song", which they've previously reacted to, also contains kazoo.
@@alchemy-oi8xf fair enough😊👍

Not much documentation seemingly available regarding samples and covers for "Star" by Stealers Wheel. The one documented cover that I was able to find was by John Wesley Harding featuring Fastball. That is available at the link above. Keep enjoying this unpredictable musical journey that we're on with the guys! 😂
Love that version.....
@@michaelyount3176Thanks for the reply, Michael. The Harding version has a really nice driving beat to it more so than the original. Thanks again for the reply.
Sorry but gerry rafferty was never a drug taker, except his 'drug" was alcoholic sadly killed him eventually,😢
It’s a good song, but it’s short, you guys have lost long songs on your channel, come back to this section when the song goes 2:50 or 3:00, it’s too fast.
