There is no tickets to the met gala red carpet… it is invite only and selected by Anna wintour. In order to attend the actual met gala there is a mandatory donation of $75,000 but that is not a ticket price, the donation goes to the metropolitan museum’s costuming department. This isn’t amazon or tesla where one person is gaining billions by profiting off of poor people, this is a charity event that is attended by rich people who care about fashion, costuming, design, and the history and future of an art form. The “normal people” attending are still ultra wealthy, important people in the fashion world who genuinely have the money to do this or they are working the event in some capacity. It is meant to be exclusive, elite, and opulent, because costume design is all of those things at it’s core and it is stupid expensive to make clothes/costumes at the hobby level, the cost of preserving/repairing/recreating actual historical pieces of that caliber would be astronomically expensive, so they charge their attendees a high donation fee so that they can continue to do the work they are doing with a living wage.

It is meant to be exclusive, elite, and opulent, because costume design is all of those things at it’s core and it is stupid expensive to make clothes/costumes at the hobby level, the cost of preserving/repairing/recreating actual historical pieces of that caliber would be astronomically expensive, so they charge their attendees a high donation fee so that they can continue to do the work they are doing with a living wage.
