Good morning MaryEllen! Can you believe that before I got into watching RUclips I had one blush brush…and I’m embarrassed to admit it rarely occurred to me to wash it. Yikes! I appreciated hearing your struggles with creating videos… it looks so easy, but in no way is it easy. My biggest struggle is in the actual filming, I don’t know what happens but I freeze up, get tongue tied and filming seems to take forever! One I get to editing I feel I am over the hump. But I know what you mean about getting tired of your own voice. LOL

We're always our own worst critic. I grew up with a mother who was a stickler when it came to speech and grammar, I suppose because she was a writer and newspaper editor. After I had left home, she would correct my letters and send them back to me. It took me a lot of years but I finally decided to not be so critical of myself or anyone else for that matter. Why not just leave in some of what you consider mistakes. Showing others your vulnerability can sometimes be endearing, inspirational and relatable. Happy Birthday to us!! Laurie

What became my "mantra" early on in my working career was something I read on a poster...Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off your goal...I have repeated this often to myself for confidence & courage. And, brush or cash would both be welcomed by me because "it's all good" and I love your smile when you say that simple phrase as I am smiling with you.
Good morning MaryEllen, I completely agree with your pronunciation of "often". My pet grammar peeve is when people say "her" instead of "she". Her and her husband, for example.
Years ago, I bought a neat little stand at Target that dries make-up brushes upside down. It was by Sonia Kashuk but I don't think they make it anymore. Too bad, it keeps the water from dripping down into the shaft, where the glue is, like you explained.
I'm a few years younger than you, and while watching your videos, I always think how much I admire you for starting a channel in (what I think of as) a brand new medium. And you do a fantastic job. Thank you for putting in the time and effort - I have benefitted greatly, from reviews, exposure to new products, and just an enjoyable few minutes every other Sunday morning with someone I think of as a friend.
Good morning, MaryEllen. It is so good to see you and hear your chat. I love it. I might do a video based on your video today! We were taught, in New England to say "often" as "soften" also. We were also taught to say the word "bath" with an "o" sound, not an "a" sound. We were not allowed to say "so?", we were never to use double negatives, and never, never say the word "ain't". There were so many English rules that we abide by today! Later, I would meet a handsome man from the South, who said, "ain't", used double negatives, etc., and lo and behold I married him. He just laughs at all the times I've corrected him throughout the years. This was such a good and interesting video and so wonderful to hear and see you today. I needed it! I'm glad you share your videos with us and I'm looking forward to reading people's sayings! :) I usually say, It could be worse...I'm grateful for (and I list all sorts of reasons why I'm grateful). I find I tend to say, Good job! to people, as it came to my attention when my grandson told me that I don't have to say it to him, but now he says it to his parents!
I was dubbed The Grammar Goddess several decades ago at one of my writer/editor jobs, so I'm right there with you about how annoying it is to listen to or read bad usage. I'm a cash kinda gal!
The brush that most intrigued me is the concealer brush. A phrase I heard from my mother growing up was, “If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.” Another she used often was, “Pretty is as pretty does!”

I would happily watch your videos unedited 😊 I think the phrase I use the most is “ It is what it is” because it helps remind me to accept things as they are. A favorite expression is “You can put your boots in the oven but it doesn’t make them biscuits”, which speaks to what things are and are not no matter what some people or think. Good morning ME, cash is always good! I went to catholic school for 8 years. I thought the nuns were hard on us but when the school year was over we 110% knew everything we were suppose to learn that year.

Happy October Birthday, drinking my morning coffee and what a joy to get notified you uploaded a video. My favorite brush is also her concealer brush. Loving the cold weather here in Michigan, my grandson has a fall break so I get to spend time with him before we head back home later this month. We will be watching football all day today. Taking him shopping tomorrow, he needs new dress shirts for college, I think on some baseball games they get dressed up. His Paupaw is cooking his favorite foods. Woke up to 46 degrees, high is 56 and it’s suppose to be like this for the next 10 days👏👏👏. Love October up here and watching the beautiful fall colors. I’ll be 70 in December and the hardest part for me is getting forgetful, I’ll lose my train of thought or forget a word then remember it later.🥰

My southern grandmother always had such phrases of wisdom - anything difficult I was going through she would say “you’re building character” or she would say “ you have to Row your boat with the oars God gave you and sometimes he only gives you one”
I do pretty much the same with my brushes as far as cleaning them ,but I gently squeeze the excess water out with the little cheap face cloths you can buy in bulk then set them on a towel with the brush part over the edge of the counter to dry
We need to not be so critical of ourselves and as you say especially at our stage in life ! I do have way more confidence in myself now than I did when I was younger and also I say NO much easier than I used to ,which in my opinion makes me a much happier person .I love my life ❤

Okay, my mother always said "well, for crying out loud". I find myself, at 68 saying it often. It saves me from saying cuss words. I would love to have a BK brush, or more, I also am very fond of cash. In other words anything you offer is good with me. You have to be the most generous RUclipsr and I am always happy to see you.
MaryEllen, You are the last person who should be hard on herself. You are the sweetest, kindest person.... beautiful inside and out. It makes me feel bad that you spend 2+ hours editing your videos, but I must say, they turn out great! I would never have known you had edited so much. When I stop and think about whether or not I use the word often or "offen," I know I use both at times, depending on what I'm saying, and maybe the day. IDK. It's something I've never thought about until you mentioned it. I think offen is just a quicker way to say often....or maybe it's the lazy way. I definitely say, "These ones" all the time!! Something else I've never thought about! I always learn so much from you, MaryEllen! I can’t imagine having to listen and look at my face with that editing, girl when I have to talk in front of people i fumble all over the place. Seriously that’s one reason I take medication, I’ve anxiety since a little girl. Thank God mom didn’t make me do the ballet recital at 5, but she made me finish the lessons.

I already admired you very much, but hearing about your resolve to continue YT despite struggles with editing makes me admire you even more❤️. We grow when we challenge ourselves to persevere. We are kindred spirits when it comes to grammar. I’m southern (proudly so) and though I may sound like a hayseed, my grammar is correct. “Gifted” is irritating, but the word that fries my taters is “finalize.” It used to be considered business jargon and was to be avoided. Hi Mary Ellen, Happy Birthday to you! I love this time of year because all of my children were born in late September and early October. A saying I have on my medical ID bracelet is, "I tick, therefore I am", because I had my aortic valve replaced and I have a fairly constant ticking in my head. Sometimes if I don't hear it, I take a moment and listen to make sure I'm still ticking!! Cheers to you--you're the best!

Living in the PNW we get a true sense of the 4 seasons and I love putting on warm cozy jackets and pajamas too. Did you know that a watched pot never boils? And be sure your sin will find you out? No need to be so critical of yourself. I do think that's one thing about this age -- it's time to relax a bit and not worry. No one will care. I'm getting to where I start a sentence and stop because I forget a word. It used to fluster me so much. Now I just say, "bare with me and I'll remember the word in a second or two. One of my favorite sayings is "I am great to my guts!" Another one is "if you can't laugh, you might as well be dead!" These were my mother's sayings, and we (her daughters) continue her legacy. As you know, I was 70 in February (almost four years after I had a stroke). I'm so thankful for everyday, and yes I understand about being hard on yourself - especially since I stutter now - BUT God has a purpose for our lives, and I could not be more grateful!!! Just brush it off when you mess up and remember my mother's sayings!!! I love you and Happiest Birthday!!!!

Changes in the English language, as well as pronunciations of some words, kind of irk me too, but I just remind myself that languages are constantly evolving and nothing ever stays the same. If it did, we'd all still be speaking Old English, like Shakespeare! 😄 I just cringe though, at some of the words and sayings that are commonplace today.
I'd have to say that, in this economy, cash is always welcome but I haven't invested in a BK beauty brush yet and have been wanting to, so either would be welcome and so appreciated! Thank you for your kind generosity, as always!

It's sad that we are always our own biggest critic! We need to be kind to ourselves, too! October is definitely my favorite month. It was in the upper 40's in the New Orleans area this morning! I would love to try Angie's brush set, or buy with the cash. My Aunt always said when shopping - "when in doubt, go without".

So much of the internet is fake and an illusion, but you are so real and so genuine. I think it is human nature that we don't like the sound of our own voices. It never sounds the same recorded as we think it does coming out of our mouths. Your voice is soft and lovely. I can't believe you're turning 70 - you look gorgeous! The T is silent in often, and I would say "given" too. I tend to say "Ah rats!" and my friends call me Charlie Brown. And I often remind myself that "a change is as good as a rest". Mary Ellen, please don’t stop your videos, I love your slacker ways! Honestly, I don’t know how you gals do it. Several years ago, I started a RUclips account and tried to record videos. I couldn’t do it. I was too critical of my looks, couldn’t stand my voice, and felt ridiculous. I have such admiration for you ladies who have entertained and educated us for years. I’m crazy about those travel brushes! That said, I would not refuse a cash prize!

You are way too critical of yourself. The content of your videos are always spot on. I do understand about proper grammar. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up when I hear “ me and my dad “. Shouldn’t it be my dad and I? So many sayings, I grew up with, you have two choices when you leave the house, happy or mad, it’s up to you. No one else will care. Recently, ( I think it was Tammy’s ageless beauty) said enjoy life, everyone is young, but some never get old. I loved that. Happy early birthday 😊
My favorite saying is from St. Augustine who wrote in his Confessions: “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” I appreciate a good "brush" and I always appreciate "cash."☺
Happy almost Birthday! You look fabulous going into the next decade and beyond. I know it can be a pain to edit because it's hard work. I'm different, I guess, because editing is my favorite part! We all make mistakes and have to film stuff over and over. But I know I can "fix it in post" (ie post-production or the editing room) and often I'll make something better. So my background is I have an MFA in theatre and studied voice for years. We learned to never drop the ends of sentences (many of my classmates had to unlearn that vocal tic) because by uplifting the end, you are carrying the listerner on to the next thought. It's much easier on the listeners' ears and let's them know that there is more coming - you build the energy (and excitement) to the next thought and then the next until you're done speaking and that is when you drop the end or "downglide." So your natural inclination is correct! Please keep learning and sharing your wisdom with us!! Its my way of determining if something is necessary to purchase, keep , or bring on a trip. It actually prevents me from bringing some things but I do tend to bring more than I need. Hahaha. I am in your boat....I have to listen to myself over and over week after week...and I get tired of it! I know I say " I thirfted this" and boy, I know thrifted is not a word but I use it anyway! Another one that used to drive Bill nuts is people who say " I don't want you critiquing my book" ..He would always say THATS NOT A WORD! LOL....I have developed a RUclips "stutter" ..it only shows up as soon as I turn my camera on! Oh Lord...the good news is I am so relaxed when I film now I have more fun! I'm working on saving cash to buy a small counsel with a fireplace in it to keep warm on the cold bitter Michigan winter days ahead. I'm also a brush lover. I bought a brush drying stand from Amazon that works great and keeps the bristles hanging down and straight. I'll look for the link to it and can post it in your Oct. 22nd video if you're ok with it.

Happy October!! I have always loved October because of the beautiful colors but here in Tx. there aren't many colors which is so sad. You need to give yourself some grace!! Each and every content creator always say that editing is the most difficult part of videos. The BK brushes are on my wish list and I think my favorite Angie brush would be the concealer brush. I have many favorite sayings but I guess "bite the bullet" is one I use the most often. Have a wonderful birthday!!

Hi Mary Ellen! I am so glad to finally watch you. My husband has been sick with colon cancer and there was so much damage from the chemo, that his kidneys were badly damaged and now we are doing dialysis. So, its been a tough 6 months, but I'm hanging in there, which is all I can do. Please keep Larry in your prayers. I have a couple of BK brushes, and I do really like them. I am an October baby, too. I will have a big birthday on the 22nd. I will be 65. I hope you have the best birthday ever, and realize how much your friendship has meant to me over the last few years. XOXO
