The people of St. Pierre-et-Miquelon are mostly Basque but a part of their blood is also Norman and Breton. If you look at their flag, it represents the 3 provinces; the Basque country, Brittany and Normandy. Actually, this archipelago is probably the most Basque place out of the Basque country.
The Cypress Station yeah. I'm with you. I'm Arabic but not Muslim. I hope that you know that not all Arabic is Muslim. Anyway all people can travel anywhere as long as they are under the law.
Born in Yarmouth, grew-up in Saint Pierre during the 80's long before tourism hit. Raised my son in Yarmouth and live out West now but still return home as often as I can. Just visited Saint Pierre this July 2014 and Yarmouth in August 2014. Not much has changed :) This video made me home sick. I miss the simple life. J'aime Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. J'adore le vin, la nourriture et la culture. Il est difficile de croire à la spécificité de la France se trouve si près de l'île de Terre-Neuve. Je ne peux pas attendre d'y retourner!
Saint Pierre and Miquelon is an archipelago, this is cold and small. This is a collectivity, a territorial collectivity, an overseas collectivity, administrés by prefect who is assisted in his or her work by a general secretary. There are horses , ducks , eagles , mints and nettles.
The highest point is the mount of the grand Mortagne. The archipel ago has its own radio station called Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon 1 ere. There is the lake of the Vigie , and the hospital François Dunan.
I never knew part of North America was still part of France. I wonder what the US would have looked like if the French ruled over all of North America.
Desperately want to check this place out! I find it fascinating that there are Citroens/Peugeots and other quirky cars there that aren’t found anywhere else in Newfoundland.
Never even heard of Saint Pierre and Miquelon until a U.S. car magazine Car and Driver took on a humor project of trying to 'deliver' (evict) a ratty Citroen to the French islands by ferry. It was rejected at the ferry port because it was leaking fuel so the drivers just abandoned it in Canada and flew back home to Michigan.
I was just there a few weeks ago (summer 2017) for a five day visit... NO there are, thankfully, no Tim Hortons in SPM. The coffee, like the local food there, is far superior to that in Canadian restaurants and coffee shops. It is worth a trip to St. Pierre for the Croissants alone! They are North America's best. The restaurants are also another reason to visit... my favourite cafe / lunch place is Les Delices de Josephine tel: 41.20.27..... open 11:30 to 6 pm and you can just come in with no reservation, also take-away too. For dinner you must call ahead 12 to 24 hrs and book a table at Le P'tit Gravier tel 41.75.28 and Le Feu de Braise tel : 41.91.60. Great French/European cuisine, among the best coffee I've ever had, friendly service, and reasonable prices at all three of these places. There are 3 bakeries and all of them are worth repeated visits like every morning you are there.
YOU FUCKING CRAZY? At least one decent place on this planet where a donut shop is a MOM AND POP operation that serves quality food and cares about their customers and where the few that work there aren't number to some corporate CEO and VP's. Canada should actually DEFEND any intrusion from those multinational companies that care nothing about but $$$$.
You’re from Maine? Chances are you habe French blood. Trust your genes: Start walking North along the coast, after a good, good walk, start searching for a smell of cheese and listening for the first French morse “pop-pop-popop” sounds (which those pesky Brits call wine bottle opening...ignorants) Hurry up!
Yes indeed... Here's what you need to bring: Passport, Euros (currency can be changed in Canada at most banks and money changers), plug adapter if you need to use a phone/laptop charger, shaving razor, etc, as the plugs are standard EU round plugs not Canadian flat ones. When you bring your cellphone put it on "airplane" mode you will need to use WiFi freely available at hotels, B&B's and restaurants there. You can use Facebook and Whatsapp to keep in contact with people at home. Canadian and US cell phones cannot make/receive calls there as SPM Telecom's network is on a different frequency from ours and will not recognize our phones. At present you cannot bring your car, but a new ferry is set to begin service in early 2018 that will take cars. Passenger only return fare is E 63 per person and ample car parking for about C$ 10 per day available at Fortune NFLD ferry port. More info at: spm-ferries.fr
In Saint Pierre and Miquelon there is the hospital Francois Dunan, the square of the general de Gaulle , an evangelic church, the mount of the grande mortagne.
Thank you for uploading, never heard of this place before. Very interesting history behind these isands, especially as they seem to be the only remaining French possession in N. America.
There’s another remaining speck of the French empire in North America, technically: Clipperton island. Interestingly this makes France the only country to have land both in North and South America.

They are french in the heart, they was a department of France before (they coast too much so they ar'nt a departement anymore). Many of them leave the territory for metropolitan France (or DOM in america) others leave for Canada. There is'nt a big economie
Metropolitan France is the continental European part of the territory plus the island of Corsica, St Pierre & Miquelon are part of the French overseas, but they are indeed full fledged French and seem quite happy about it. The population is shrinking though, as many leave the place to find opportunities either in neighboring canada or in mainland France.

Saint Pierre Miquelon is a French land since the appearance of human life on this coast and has absolutely nothing to do with the countries of Scandinavia except the temperature. It has always been a landmark for French Cod fishermen and French whale hunters from the Atlantic coast of mainland France and more specifically from Basques, Brittany and Normandy (present on its flag) with which it maintains a cultural heritage. and genetic heritage huge and unique in the world. Saint Pierre and Miquelon were a French land long before the creation of New France (Quebec ...) and has always been a symbol of exception among the French colony of North America even if it is officially the last of this French colony from North America still French. Saint Pierre and Miquelon had a thousand opportunities during its history to secede from France and become independent as during the Second World War when it made the choice to join the Free French Forces of General de Gaulle in 1941 where the population of Saint Pierre and Miquelon asserted their French identity by paying a high tribute throughout the duration of the conflict in the Resistance as with Saint-Pierrais or Miquelonais who participated in the Normandy landings in Commando Kieffer at Sword Beach.

It's so weird to think that a French territory is only eleven miles off the coast of Canada--Most Canadians probably have no idea it's there.
I'm American and I'm kind of interested I wouldn't mind visiting just to say that I went there

Looks like such a calm, serene place to be. Somewhere to truly relax and take refuge from a world gone mad...
Thank God!
By "take refuge", I thought you meant from the stress of daily life, not Africans and Muslims...

Better food.
Well that's where the people from Louisiana come from. They were immigrants from France then Montreal that went south.

Was looking at covid-19 stats and was surprised that I didn’t recognize the name of these islands. Very interesting.
It's nice to know there are still places like this that are unspoiled.
