- The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 3 continues!
In this tutorial, we explore the mechanics of Minecraft fishing - which gets you a lot more than just fish!
We briefly explore how to capture live fish, before casting our fishing rod out into the lakes and oceans of Minecraft's overworld. We look at the results of fishing up junk, fish, and treasure, how changing your location (or the weather) can affect catch rates, and how the right enchantments take fishing to the next level.
We also discuss the exact conditions required to catch treasure, and how AFK treasure fishing was made more difficult. We even use the fishing rod to drag mobs around!
Finally, I present a tutorial for a fishing house you can build at your favourite fishing spot in your Minecraft world.

Pixlriffs' Minecraft survival tutorials are incredibly helpful and informative. They are perfect for beginners who are looking to learn the basics of survival, or for experienced players who want to improve their skills. Pixlriffs does a great job of explaining the different aspects of Minecraft survival in a clear and concise way, and he always provides helpful tips and tricks. I highly recommend his tutorials to anyone who plays Minecraft
Yes! I have been playing Minecraft casually on and off over the years. And just like the previous survival guides it really helps. Not only learning new things but also to help me remember stuff I have forgotten!
Feeding the algorithm
Yes
The only thing I think he does wrong is he focuses too much on enchanting and not enough on village trading which is massively better
@@stevenbenson9976 I think he's just trying to teach about game mechanics as he goes through the playthrough, I'm sure he'll cover villager trades once he finds a village in his world and starts trading himself
the first time Pixlriffs uses hanging signs in survival - is to portray them as something else. Legendary
For real. When they were first announced, I admit my thought was, “ok, cool. But I’ll probably use them once and forget about them.” I never even considered how they could be used in other ways like this, but now I feel like I’ll use them all the time.
decorating a pond/lake, and building a fishing hut with a dock, and then just casting off the dock is one of my favorite way to relax while playing minecraft
I have to say I really enjoy this new type of episode structure. Short guide first for newcomers in the beginning than building tips and tricks for veterans. There's a bit for everyone.
Keep up the good work Pix! :D
I'm really enjoying playing along on this beautiful world seed. Today I found my first emerald ore on a stony shore, and I left it intact with a sign: "For Pix. The first emerald."
Thanks for all the work and enthusiasm you put into this series.
😃👍Maybe encase it in a glass exhibit too lol
I have been playing on the same seed and I was really surprised by the amount of emerald ore I can find in this world. Usually I only get emeralds from villagers so this is really nice.
That's so cool.
Ahhh, the fishing episode. One of my two favourite episodes of Survival Guides. The other being the map episode. I do build a fishing hut as one of my first builds in new worlds, but nothing as fancy as this one. This fisherman's house is really nice. I have to remember trying the hanging signs as fences. Never thought of that before. That is one of the reasons I love this series. No matter how long I've played this game, there is always another trick to pick up that I didn't know about. 8-)
i love his way of playing minecraft. i tend to just rush the early game so i can get an elytra as soon as possible then fill my world with ugly farms. his slow-paced and laid-back style is really relaxing!
i can never rush because im so bad at the game even though I've been playing for 10 uears
@@ahmed4363 I prefer to think of it as not rushing because I enjoy playing the game in a more laid back fashion.
@@sarahschreffler5407me too, i hate rushing, and honestly the early game is my favorite part anyway.
i hate lazy farms id rather explore to find treasure or mine for iron because its more fun
Imo, rushing the game takes away from all the adventure the game has to offer. I mean, I'm not trying to bash on anyone who chooses to play that way, if that's your thing, go for it but I like all the aspects pixlriffs really highlights on. I love the idea that literally almost everything can be farmed for something else that could be farmed and so forth and so on. I like the farming, I like the mining, I like the enchanting, I like the villager trades. I like to play much like pixlriffs and try and dabble into everything.
15:37 “2 stacks hanging signs” made the resources for 128 hanging signs. Used a LOT of iron, only to find out a stack of hanging signs is 16. Now I have 37 chains. Don’t make the mistake I did. 😂
Fishing is an underrated mechanic, I hope they update it
is it weird that this series has helped me sleep… pixs voice is very calming like he should start a podcast
I already have a podcast with 250 episodes. It's called The Spawn Chunks! My friend Joel and I talk about Minecraft every Monday.
I listen to his podcast every night and it's very calming to me too
Fishing produces enchanted fishing rods so frequently that it is rarely, if ever, necessary to use an enchanting table for them. In my experience, the first or second ordinary fishing rod will pull one from the water with at least one or two basic or better enchantments. That first enchanted fishing rod will soon produce another one that may improve the first one when combined. In my current 1.20 world I only needed two enchanted fishing rods from the water to end up with a perfect fishing rod (Unbreaking III, Lure III, Luck of the Sea III and Mending), and was soon pulling more enchanted fishing rods from the water to begin assembling another one. Sometimes it seems fishing is a little OP when it comes to getting enchanted bows and fishing rods (not that I'm complaining!). Excellent guiding detail, Pixlriffs, and the fishing cottage is fabulous! Every episode of the Survival Guide is delightful.
I have been playing for like 8 years and I still highly enjoy these. Your videos are so relaxing and entertaining, and I love the way you explain everything. Love this!
That Survival Guide luck with the Mending fishing rod on the no-Luck fishing test! I've been fishing along (after expanding my fishing pond because I'd forgotten it had to be two deep) and so far the only enchanted fishing rod I've gotten is... Curse of Vanishing 😅
Thank you for making a whole episode about fishing, one of my favorite things to do in Minecraft! A big mug of tea, a stream or a show, and a fishing pier with a view have been my go to way to relax for many years. ^^
(Also whenever I make my piers I like to strip the logs, generally dark oak or spruce) above the water line to make the lower ones look like they are covered in tar ^^) Love the fishing hut :D My pier this time is part of my house and overlooks the backside of Cherry Mountain ^^
Every season of the Minecraft Survival Guide is a knockout. Great job Pixlriffs.
If anyone is following along from Bedrock Edition: the 1x1 block of water can get you any of the fishables. Having a second block of water connected to it and containing a fish is enough to convince the game you’re in an ocean and improve your rates.
You’ll also have much higher durability on your fishing rod, so you’ll go through them much more slowly, even without unbreaking or mending.
Everything else Pix has blessed us with here will still hold true, though. Thanks, Pix!
I love that little hanging bench so much! Reminds me of all the good times I had hanging out on my grandma's porch swinging on her bench
I think I love this series so much as a ‘veteran’ player, is that it gives me that same feeling of playing for the first time. Hearing Pix explain the basics makes me feel like I’m discovering it alongside him for the first time. It gives that feeling of mc nostalgia so many of us struggle to find again!
That cottage turned out amazing! Your sense of decoration and building knowledge is incredible. Yeah it's just a block game, but man that takes a ton of creativity and so much experience. Been playing on and off for about 10 years and I still suck at building. So, big respect to your skill.
I adore your builds, thank you for including them as "bonus" content in your tutorials. I think this newer format is working really well.
I’ve had this playlist on for days in the background, when I’m playing Minecraft, when I’m sleeping… I learned stuff I didn’t expect to and your vibes are just exactly what I need these days. Love your channel thanks for all your hard work!
Fishing is one of those things that I always seem to forget about, but it’s actually really useful. I think I’ll go do some fishing myself today, and a little house on the riverside sounds like a fun little build.
Thanks for the reminder Pix! Keep up the awesome work on Survival Guide 3!
It is literally and easily your first xp farm, hands down.
I've always been more of a technical player, rushing the game and building a farm for every material, but your videos made a positive impact on the way I play Minecraft, now I enjoy building houses and stuff. That made my Minecraft experience a lot better, thank you.
Me: "I'm going to build a house here; I need a stack of dirt."
Pixlriffs: "I'm going to build a house here; I need a full and barrel of materials, and a furnace."
As a veteran player, I love to see you explain everything I already know, plus all the new features from the recent update. Have been watching your videos during dinner for the past week. Lovely to see you're still enjoying this beautiful game as well after so many years!
The new format is great. What would have been a routine fishing tutorial, which was very well done btw, turned into a great inspiring build video as well. Thanks for the amazing content!
I really love that little swinging bench in the back of the fishermans house! its so cute, youre so creative Pix!
I'm so glad this series is back :) :)
I'm quite excited for this episode
Well, I only wanted to know how to make the fishing pole work but thanks for all that other information lol
Pixlriff i want to Thank you. The last few months have had very bad anxiety, it has been to the point were I couldn't sleep in my own room..
Your voice have been really calming and helpfull for me.
Thank you
To save Durability on your Enchanted Fishing Rod that you are trying to build up into a Perfect Enchanted Fishing Rod, place 2 Rods into your Hotbar. Cast the weak Rod with the best Enchantments on it already, then switch to the 2nd Rod before reeling it in, and it will lose the Durability instead. And since you cast the Rod with Enchantments first, they will allow you to build up levels, catch more Enchanted Fishing Rods, and allow you to combine them later on an Anvil to craft the Perfect Enchanted Rod. And place a cover over your head to avoid Phantoms while Fishing at night, and be careful of Trident Drowned as well. Also in new worlds, if you fish or break gravel in a new world, its seed will produce the same loot in the same order. Mainly affects speed runners trying to break gravel to get flint, as if it took 20 tries to start, it will take 20 tries for the same seed.
been playing for 12 years. pixl's documentary style has me hooked on this series.
Ah, it is my weekend, and I am so excited to go fishing and start playing Minecraft again. It will be awesome to use the things I have learned from your channel. I cannot thank you enough for you are doing for us Newbies and it really is an awesome game. I can't believe that I am playing Minecraft with this gaming PC that I bought a year ago to game with my son. LOL
Another fine episode, Pix!
Fishing has always been a huge part of my early game. In the current world I have going I wouldn't even go caving until I caught an Infinity book or bow. Most of my enchanting gets done on the anvil so the books come in very handy.
Love the way you're going about this series! I look forward to every new episode.
As a returning player (last play was early 1.18) I really appreciate these guides. Couple of points -
1. Apparently we can still get everything from a 2 deep fishing hole in Bedrock. Been having trouble finding iron and so I built a little inlet into my hole for fishing while I wait out the night. (No wool, yet, and only 2 strings) I've gotten a chanted book, chanted bow, a bowl, and the usual fishy drops out of a 2 block waterfall. The fishing hole does connect to outside, so I guess that might affect things.
2. Have the spawn rates been cranked up? I started a Lush Caves seed and did my usual dig into a mountain where I see a resource (coal) for my 1st night. I broke into the cavern on the other side and was greeted by a Creeper. Juke to the side and plug that hole... Day 3 or 4 and I already have a Witch at my door. Cooked Cod FTW.
So, bad luck, or have the rates been bumped up? I'm kinda afraid to leave the house, but I'm a kind of prepper type, anyway. Got a small garden plot for wheat and even a carrot, plus Chickens, all inside my hidey hole. Only seen 1 sheep (Day 2), but I left it cuz I didn't have wheat. Don't get me wrong, I'll get there, but luck has not seemed to be on my side.
I'm still tinkering away at my house in your seed and I just used trap doors as railings for the first time last night! Lovely build!
Fishing is severely underrated. I always fish early game as it's a fantastic food source and gives incredible enchants that are way cheaper than using an enchanter. Getting a great bow very early on makes dealing with caves and the Nether much more bearable
Pixlriffs: "just a small build"
*proceeds to make one of the best houses you've ever seen*
Fishing is one of my favorite things to do in minecraft. Awesome episode and a great looking build.
Fishing is so overlooked. It is especially useful early game and a constant easy source of food.
As always, a very entertaining, informative video.
I’m happy you made a porch swing in your fishing shack; I’ve got a swinging sofa like that in my own log cabin that could use spiffing up with hanging signs and trap doors. ❤
that couch is so cute, i never would've thought of using hanging signs in creative ways like that!
These videos are so helpful because I have gaps in my knowledge. For example, I knew how to fish, but I didn’t know the fishing was better in the rain and I didn’t know that you needed to have a 5 x 5 unobstructed area in order to collect treasure. Beyond that, the build of the fish and cottage was great.
Lovely, comfy build. I adore the combination of spruce trap doors, hanging signs and lanterns on my own blueprints
Been playing this game since just before they added stackable fences... I am fully engaged in each of these videos and often learn at least one thing I didn't know 😊
Pix, loved the fisherman’s cottage! I really liked that you continued the style from the starter house.
I've watched him through his other tutorials but still finding some new things with this! love it!! I would go and fish just for the fun, to see what all I'd catch. They are good for potions. saddles name tags trip wires. Love the fishing hut! And the signs. I want that swing in my world too! I love porch swings. I don't have a covered porch yet for a swing. I need to work on that - in my real world! :-) Thanks much Pixlriff!!!!
there's so much fun watching this early-game episode, when I recently began fishing in my pretty old minecraft world! thank you😊
Love the series pix, great as always.
Just wanted suggest than it would be so nice to have some occasional GUI stuff on the screen give more info about something. Like when you had it in survival guide s1 when you encountered a new mob.
Here for example it would be so nice to have some king of table or something about all fishing treasures stuff. I know it makes video editing part more difficult, but it adds so much useful info.
Thanks again
I am new to Minecraft. Your videos have really helped me understand Minecraft and advance in it. I really appreciate it and just want to say I love the way you build and verbalize possible stories for why you build certain things! 👏
This is Minecraft at its best. The peak of all Minecraft RUclipsrs
Yaay! Pix made the dutch flag in a plant box!
Love that you are providing download links for your buildings on a flat world. Really want to make your starter house.
I also liked the spruce trap doors hanging down on the sides of the roof. Almost like leftover rope from strapping down the roof
So happy when Pix uploads
That fisherman’s cottage is cozy af! I’m really into cozy right now.
I still remember when I first "discovered" fishing in Minecraft. (Mostly because my very 1st "catch" was a pair of old boots! It made me laugh.)
Sadly, it was also when I "discovered" trident wielding drowned! Well, not "discovered" exactly, all I knew was that I kept DYING while on the shore (or swimming to recollect my items)! Until I quit that world in frustration, only going back to it YEARS later after seeing those drowned in another game & realized what happened)
Loved the build! You make it look SO easy! (Mine are 80% boring "boxes".)
The fisherman's house is so simple yet elegant. Beautiful
When I go fishing, I do so in a little camp, with a campfire and barrel next to me. I also fish with the rod in my off hand, leaving some toolbar spots empty- what this does is, with the main hand on an empty tool slot, rmb still works normally, but now I can open barrels, and add raw fish to the fire, while the bobber is still in the water.
Thus I can multitask a bit, cooking fish, putting away loot, etc
My sister and I once had a world where we were both scared of fighting mobs for xp and we got it mostly by fishing for hours on end. It was actually quite fun as we had good fishing rods (that we fished) and we got a lot of enchantments that way. It’s not a huge part of the game, but thank you for this video pix :)
love the episode and the build, as always! I heard you can get the upside down V shaped chains on a full block if you shift and click when placing.
Nice build, a better fisherman's "hut" than most people's houses. Plenty of build tricks along with the regular guidance.
Lilly pads are in the junk table. But they are not junk in Minecraft. Lilly pads let you place a solid block anywhere on the surface of a body of water. Just put down the lilly then you can place a block against, above or bellow it.
Pix embracing his inner fisherman before Grian made it cool, love it
Hey Pix. I really like the new format for your videos! I've been a fan of your channel for a couple of years now. You have always had excellent content and bring the tutorial content to the start of each video has really brought it to the next level. I primarily play bedrock and find that when I am fishing, if there are fish near my cast it seems to increase the lure speed. Am I just imagining this or do you know if this is a feature? Thanks 🥷
I have a personal trick for fishing! Cast out till you find a spot that bubbles come up from quick (like immediately) and keep casting in that exact spot! It may take a few tries but it’s super useful if you’re looking more for loot than a relaxing experience lol
I know a lot of people dislike the slow pace of fishing and even players like Cubfan have talked about disliking how you don't know what you're going to get but I really enjoy fishing in minecraft. I enjoy the surprises and the chill and its also great cuz I hate fishing irl cuz it just feels so mean and I hate eating fish lol
The way you explain things are just…relaxing as heck and is my favorite morning watch 🌤
13:09 Mending Bow if you have a Skelton spawner Infinitity bow if you dont
Wow, that's a beautiful cottage on the lake. I am enjoying this series very much. Thank you.
I love the Swing seat idea. :) another excellent episode where I am learning all the time
what a lovely fishermans-house - thx pixl, that you do these videos for us ^^
Everytime pix uploads a video of a new building it always gives me an urge to play and build something too.
I love how you give character to your builds!
I di8d not know there was so many new things in the game. Thank you for all of this.
Nice little trick for piers, fishing houses, and other waterside builds...use dark oak or spruce logs for the parts under water, then acacia logs above the waterline...though likely using something to cover the top to hide the end grain. This gives the look of wood that was either splashed/otherwise soaked, then dried out over time.
That is an AWESOME looking Fishing House. I love how you creators make such wonderful designs. I just play Minecraft to go Caving so my houses are pretty utilitarian in design lol. But watching you, Prowl, CookieGod and others really makes me love Minecraft all the more
Yes finally fishing 🎣
Love the series pix! Perfect upload timing for my lunch break, so I get to eat lunch with your soothing sultry voice!
Got to love the cave entrance in the background from the swinging chair in the end.
I took 3 days on the starterhouse, love it!! Woodfarming to build this one, im gonna make it in the middle of the lake though, playing along in bedrock, i found an skellie spawner close to yours, and a zombie one right under the base.
Watching you build is inspirational for me and my world builds. Great work.
Please keep making these videos! I’m learning so much! Thank you!
Hanging signs as railings, magnificent!
I started playing minecraft again after a year because I also started watching your s3 😅 THANKS PIX
I'm playing along with you on this seed and the number of pillager patrols that spawn in this area is insane. I don't even have diamond gear yet and I have 6 or 7 ominous banners hanging up in my storage basement.
Thanks for all the fish 🐟 😊
Hey Pixl, Thanks and the cottage looks great!
That's a gorgeous build Pix. Loving the quirky little details 👍
Love the porch swing 😊
I really love these videos! They are so motivating and inspirational. He is really doing a great job at making these videos
The Swing design is Genius!
the spruce trap doors dangling remind me of seaweed, very cool :))
Yeaaa another survival guide episode!!
A minor detail if I remember correctly is that the luck of the sea enchant lowers catch rates slightly, so if you just want to catch fish fast only lure is probably better
I haven't done much fishing, I don't think the loot is worth it, but then again I'm one of those weird people who prefer tridents over bows.
The build still looks really nice, and I'm getting lots of ideas from it. 👍
Build is very nice. I also fish a lot early in my builds. I have fished up both infinity and mending on different bows in the 1.20 version.. Just a note... If you are fishing and you have another item with mending (say a bow) you can put it in your off hand and while you are fishing you can mend both your bow and your rod, assuming it also has mending. Of course your own experience meter will not be going up until both items are fully mended. I will also note that you can get mending on an enchanted book; however, I have not yet been lucky enough so far. Really would like it on pickaxe, and well, everything really...
Fun fact for severs:
The “hook a mob with the fishing rod and pull them closer” stacks with multiple fishing rods!
Meaning if more people hook onto the same entity, goes a distance away, and pull. The entities wil launch into the sky!(or other direction you choose)
im playing this seed on bedrock so its a little different but the generated landscapes are pretty much the same and i am having such a fun time playing alongside you pix :) although i dont quite have enough time to catch up to you but thats ok :)
can u please go more in depth on ur builds like dimensions how many blocks placed and etc etc.. I'm on ps4 so I can't download anything other then that man I love ur videos thank u!!
