Yes, I've looked for freelancing jobs and company jobs on platforms like Indeed, Upwork, and similar sites, but the competition is very high.
I remember getting my first job was a pretty humbling experience as well. You need to stay persistent, keep applying to jobs, work on your portfolio / projects and stay interview-prepared at all times. Sooner or later the opportunity will come and you will be ready to take advantage.
P.S. : I applied to hundreds of jobs before landing my first intern interview in 2020.

It is the base M1 Macbook Air, I am looking to upgrade soon though.

It highly depends on your budget and what your development workflow needs. The M1 Air would be the best budget option that would work for most basic things. (even web development) If you want to get into AI or more advanced topics a Macbook Pro would be more future-proof.
