    One of the early things I noticed in the video was the presence of WOODEN sleepers, and these do in time reduce the grip of nails holding rails in position; at about 5 minutes in, the derailed tanks still standing are shown sitting on sleepers, where they have dropped off the rail on one side, and are sitting on the web of the sprung rail on the other. The sprung rails had partially overturned, spreading outwards, allowing the wheels to fall off the other rail; better binding of the rails to the sleepers would prevent the rail spreading and subsequent derailment. How many thousands of kilometers of line still sit on 50 year old wooden sleepers?

    Where's the sound? Are they not going to say what happened?

      No sound on a B-Roll. It's just all the video with no editing. They are just gathering FACTS here. The investigation will begin later after all the evidence is gathered. Then a probable cause report will be made along with any recommendations that may prevent any future accidents or spills. Cheers, Dan

      Yeah they don't post the audio because important information could otherwise be given out, though then again, some people can lip read ...
      (Like, people could come to false conclusions, especially the Fake News Media, LOL...)

    Doesn't matter what recommendations NTSB comes up with, RRs will find a way to delay implementation and continue to cause accidents and endanger people's lives.

    Is the Rails old and bent or falling Apart. tracks should be up to Code but Alot of the Old Lines are not. companies like U P Lease the short main lines out to other Rail Road Companies. They Dont get The Proper Work as Needed. Rails bent. ties in bad Shap.Tracks sink Down When Train passes over.

    Cars with UN 1170 hazmat placard contain Ethyl Alcohol. (AKA "Ethanol")

    the rails are too narrow and the wheels aren`t wide enough we also need to have the width of the tracks opened up or go slower

    So... they're walking around several tank cars of Ethanol with at least one still burning. No PPE ( Personal Protective Equipment)?!? FEMA WISER states minimum safe distance in fire situation is 1/2 mile.

    • @BenjaminEsposti
      @BenjaminEsposti 7 лет назад +1

      There really isn't much of a hazard any longer, but yes they still have to be careful. The cars are cool enough that none can build up pressure. That's when the real big hazard exists.
      But, still, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have PPE on!

      Why don't you apply for a job with the NTSB and straighten these people out???

    Does not look like a lot of investigation going on. Seems to be a stroll around the accident site. No measuring tools, and a lot of acting for the camera. One person pointing out to the others that the rail rolled over. As for PPE, guess they think that they can say NTSB and nothing will happen to them. Poor example.

    • @Halberdin
      @Halberdin 5 лет назад

      Actually, investigation needs little measurement among this chaos pile of scrap. Instead, they have to look for details and for damage that was _not_ caused by the accident, but might be the reason, like cracks with corrosion inside, long-term wear-out of critical parts, and traces on the track before the accident location.
      And for safety: maybe all ethanol that was not consumed by the fire was pumped out of the tanks.
