Weird this popped up on my feed. I'm from same village as Nige knew him when we were young kids and then same high school. He and his parents took me with him to a bmx race once (and I was sh*te came last in my race :)). Couldn't believe how quick he was though - amazing. Good on you Nige and well done on all your success. You were always a nice bloke and funny too! Joe
I went up to the X games event back in the day with the east coast crew that was supporting Lars Tribus and I was watching the racing and realized Nigel was winning the race pumping the backside of the first jump. LOL I told Lars about it and he said he wished I woulda told him earlier. hahah What a race that was
That 1997 National was at Innerleithen but they called it Peebles because nobody had ever heard of Innerleithen! was in Dirt Mag 02 or 03
I’m sure there are loads of us in our late 50s who were inspired to get into mountain biking by Jason and Rob, such a sad day when we read about Jason in MBUK. I’m still riding after all these years but commuting on an e-bike these day on my 30 mile round commute to work, great video guys and memories of those classic bikes 👍

Loved that Dirt video. Represented what I loved about mountain biking- did some bike testing for MBUK with Nigel Jackson and Steve Worland..late 80’s!
Still have my copies of MBUK, at least the copies that remained after the scouse removalists nicked a stack of our family belongings when we moved! Years of cycling mags, and favourite novels gone, as I never throw away books!
Back in those days, I lived 24x7 cycling, including being in our family bike shop all day, talking cycling! Ah, best years of my life! Just read up some info on Nige, he came from just over the hill from where I used to live in Winstanley, and used to go to Alan's in Wigan as well. Alan was a cool guy, I used to get my music and comics from him in the late 80's. Nige also used to ride at the Three Sisters, which has a bit of a bad memory for me, as I got clobbered off my bike by a car coming off the M6 in '93 at that round-a-about that took you into Wigan, or back to Bryn. Helped to ruin my love of cycling as a result of the whiplash pain it caused, then we moved again to Oz, and cycling was never quite the same for me. I traded my interest in MTB for track, and watched many upcomers like Stuart O'Grady etc before he joined GAN and started his TDF career.
I used to ride from Wigan to Winter Hill for MTB'ing, sometimes took a total 50 mile ride up towards Blackburn AFTER 'the Hill' and back to Wigan. I used to like a Sunday run on my road bike to Knutsford, pretty flat, so an easy ride to get up some speed.
When I ran our family bike shop, I used to offer a free true on the MTB wheels I built, with Rigida RS32 rims (if I recall correctly), as they were virtually bomb proof. I had one regular lad who told me that the other kids would try to smash the crap out of the rims to try to buckle them...I don't recall anyone came back for a true up! My own wheels stood up equally well...and I KNOW what I put THEM through! Lol! At least I still have the memories of those beautiful years!
