Wow, housing prices in South Reno are comparable to California housing prices? Maybe property taxes and other fees are a little less? What about HOA, utility and insurance costs? How do people afford to live in South Reno? What are the major employers?
It all depends on which parts. You can still buy in South Reno for $600K. It’ll be a 2000 sq. ft. home with a tiny yard (most likely). HOAs are neighborhood-specific. Mine are only $60 quarterly, so it really depends. Utilities in South Reno are the same as the rest of the city. Insurance can be tricky, especially with all the recent fires. I predict that will become a major obstacle in the future for the whole area. Major employers are in tech (Tesla, Panasonic, Amazon), healthcare (a couple of major hospitals here), and manufacturing.
I lived in Las Vegas. I thankfully left. I know Las Vegas has always been and still is a horrible job market. Always a high unemployment rate. Hopefully Reno is nothing like Las Vegas.

Our job market is strong. It also depends largely on your qualifications and what you’re looking for.
