- It's been 5 months since we diagnosed a trunk leak in my Mazda 3 sedan, but I never finished up and found out what it was. I finally took the time to water leak test the trunk and found multiple sources where it was coming from, which meant the trunk was finally put back together!

My wife has one of these as an exchange from her car dealer and I opened up the boot and was just as you say an aquarium in there, the dealer said "we have had a lot of rain recently" but the tools for the spare wheel practically had barnacles on them lol Her ford fiesta also had a leak, but this was due to where the boot lid connects, the hinges welded to the body had tiny cracks around them. But what happened was that the water would fill up so much inside, when breaking the water would then tsunami to underneath the passenger seats and then eventually to the passenger footwells... so i wasnt looking forward to finding the cause in this one so am eternally thankful for your video!
ive lifted the passenger carpets up and they are totally soaked underneath.
the mazda 3 has hot air vents for the passengers feet, with a hole in the carpet where it comes out from, so just direct the air underneath the carpet and raise it up with some sort of mesh or ive used a piece of guttering that ive drilled holes in, and just drive around with the fans blasting to dry out the floor. its the only way to do it without the horrible task of removing the seats and trims and carpets
Thank you! I am taking my Mazda 3 to the dealership for this issue Tuesday! Now no leak test needed from them because I now know the issue.
Glad this helped!
I was skeptical about my Mazda 3 when I first got it. Now I really love driving it everyday, you’re right it really is a great daily. It’s on my channel if you wanna check it out and what we’ve done so far. Knee the videos coming brotha 😎👍🏻
Just noticed water on the wrong side of my Mazda 3 hatchback’s hatch gasket. It’s been about 6 months since I was in a car accident and my rear quarter panel was replaced. 🤞 I don’t find an “aquarium”, but I’m about to open it up and try to source the leak. Thanks for the pointers on the dirt/dust lines, running a hose, and the silicone seal.
Good luck!
Always measure the pressure inside the spare tire. This tire has a tendency to loose air quickly over time.
There was a recall for it actually got it in the mail’ but I’m not driving 2 hours to dealer to have air put in
Did it myself lol u r correct mine had 22psi don’t remember what it’s suppose to be but seems like it was pretty high like 55-60 psi crazy my 2011 m3 had like no issues ever go to new gen 2016 and nothing but recalls due to mazda price “saving measures”
If the rear trunk door has a windscreen wiper then check its grommet through the glass. Water can get inside that door and come out through the rivets at the bottom of it so sometimes looking as if it is coming under the seal.
Good point, I’m about to try and source my leak
@@mattwheeler9194 I am trying to remember I think I eventually found water coming out from the inside of the windscreen at the bottom. Put a short strip of Bluetack on it to fix it. Hard to see where it is getting into the window frame.
Really happy you made this video. I am having the same leaky truck and just couldn't trace the leak until now. Thanks alot
Glad it helped!
keep uploading videos about mazda 3 love the car ❤️
Thanks!
this also happens in the same place on my 2007 Hatchback.
My 2008 SP23 hatch leaks in the boot & I just discovered that the floor is soaking wet behind my front passenger seat too. ☹️
For 3 months my 2015 Mazda 2 sedan boot has been getting water in it.
And I just found this video. Hopefully I won’t be having any more F**K you car moments.
Great video 👍
Glad it helped
Can I just let the drain plug open?, I was checking the trunk coz there are rumbling sound when I pass through a rough road or speed bumps. I was shocked that water accumulated there, and the water is brownish coz of the rust.
Up to you, but it's sealed for a reason
Thx for the video. I have a 2015 Mazda 3 and its filling up w water just like yours was. Going to try to do some of those repairs and see if that fixes it.
Those are notorious for trunk leaks, and if it's been in an accident that will cause it too
same thing just happened to mine :/
I like your videos I'm Im current chasing the leak in my trunk and I replaced the taillights should I put Silicon on the taillights gaskets to
If it leaks from there
CAUTION: My trunk was leaking too. I found the cause when my back windshield blew off going down the highway. Bad seal from the factory.
Damn for real?
I have the same problem...
Hope you find the issue!
Will a 2010 mazda 3 sport trunk fit the same year i touring?
hey im wondering about that metal coils in the trunk behind the couch ?
im only asking cause my car have these noises coming from that place and i thought that might be a solution
The trunk brace you mean? I'm thinking your end links or shocks are shot, or trailing arm bushings
where did you purchase a new seal from? Also its been 5 months, did it solve the problem, thanks :)
Bought it from a Mazda dealership, problem has been solved since 🙂
water filled up where my spare tires go but we couldn’t find a leak, any suggestions?
Did you water test it
@@ColtonRichter yeah there’s no visible leak that i can see
i have the exact problem leak from the seal and some water from the tow small white pieces in each side so i used silicone for those i wanted to redo the glue first before changing the hole seal i was wondering if you know which glue i can use ?
The trunk seal has glue already in it if you buy an OEM one!
do you ever get mold in the car? i unfortunately
Yes
@@ColtonRichter I had to get mine stripped down to the metal and deep cleaned due to mold 😷, only for the trunk to get water in it again. So frustrating but I think I found where its coming from and am going to seal it with silicon. its coming from that white plastic piece right before the tail light
Yes, both sides do that.
@@ColtonRichter how did you fix it?
@@ghostblack9209 can you share a picture of what you mean? I also have the same problem but I think water is only coming from the left side and not the right side. Maybe if you have a picture highlight with something the area if you do not mind
good video
hey what wheel size are those 3rd gens ?
16
👍🏻
Could I just drill a hole in the bottom to drain the water
You'll just build mold if you don't fix the actual leak itself
