Meldon Reservoir looks gorgeous ... though it was Ladybower right at rhe start looked very similar in a way haha. I definitely need to get down to Dartmoor next year. Used to be there loads while training but need to get some wildcamps in. Yeah dont get touching any Military equipment, dont want any Marines coming out an Osprey landing on your pitch 😂😂 Loved the waterfalls 😊 and the cap looks awesome with your hair 👌🏻 Even if you have waterproof boots, get yourself some Sealskinz waterproof socks, you can stand in the shower with them in and your feet are still dry 😂 just incase of those bogs! Absolutely STUNNING views though 😍😍 Always hate it when you get somewhere then the planned pitch doesnt go to plan lol. Dartmoor weather sounds like the Peak District 🤣🤣 Well done for still getting out with your hips, keep taking it easy and doing what you can. Only you know your own body. Good job 💪🏼👏🏻💪🏼 Looks like you found a pretty decent pitch in the end to br fair, id have been well happy with that. Went round Meldon Reservoir and up to Yes Tor, had a crazyyyyy whiteout where I could only see a couple meters, thickest I've ever been in. Then I fell waist deep into a watery hole 😄 good times haha. Don't know about gloves but I use a Zippo handwarmer - I'd be lost without it in winter! Have a nice eve, much love ❤

You remind me of myself in my own videos, LOL. You are just so happy to be outdoors and it shines through. Your dinner looked so good! I am ever so envious of all you wonderful UKers that you can cook in your tent without worry of a big ole bear coming up on you because he smells your dinner cooking from miles away. It's always suggested eating a good distance away from your tent so bears don't associate tents with food in the US. Don't want to ever wind up as a bear tent taco! LOL! ~RVA~

Great video Karen. I really like the river section from black a tor copse to the reservoir. There is a good wild swimming spot by the little concrete building with weir and bridge next to it.

On my last longish hike I had pains in the hips for the first time, not good at all, so I know how you feel...but the sunrise and the gnarly woods were lovely... 31:59 not yet wide awake and squinting at the camera you are the spit of Alice Roberts! 😊

It just popped in my head that I forgot to mention something! The guy with the bugle who told you he is laying trails might have been laying trails for drag hunting. They basically drag a bag of aniseed or something similar scented over the ground and then when the hunt starts the dogs follow the scent all the way along the trail to the finish point. I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure that's what he was doing! I'm probably wrong, I normally am :)

Its a bit of a slog from West Mill to Yes Tor eh? High Wilhays is where I am going to be camping next, and not sure if you know or not, but it is technically a mountain as its over 600m :) I do love that part of the moor though, so much to see. Great vid, looking forward to the next one!
Ah thanks Ryan!! I didn’t realise that!! It is a beautiful part of the moor and I can’t wait to explore it more another time. And yes, that hill is a killer 😂 although I had been slowly and steadily climbing all the way from Meldon and through very boggy ground so was already getting tired by that point. Just for clarity, I was not nit picking with my mountain comment, just an interesting bit of info, both yes tor and high wilhays are mountains ( kinda) I think the only things classed as mountains south of the brecons

Great video. The Tor in distance at 35.30 is Great Links tor 😊 Kitty is in front of it, the flat hill. Highly recomend a walking pole. Use it for prodding the bogs and stabillity for stream crossings. Cant beat Kraken or spiced rum on a camp. Also I use a 1 liter stainles flask for taking 2 beers in. Keeps it chilled in the summer 👍🍻 Look forward to next one.

I also struggle with Arthritis in my hips too, and longer walks really causes me issue, especially in the cold.. its getting worse with age 😰 but I won’t concede!

And you could think about an ipod or a second phone for music. But just be careful of copyrights. Hi Karen love what your doing very much similar to me in many ways…re-setting & soothing the soul, really can’t beat being out👍🏻 On the gloves/hands thing I got myself a pair of the neoprene fingerless gloves that also turn into mitts from Decathlon, about £15ish . I use Halfords hand / feet warmer (really cheap) and slip these inside the palm of the glove… it’s amazing……so hot and they last 8hrs so you can Chuck them in the sleeping bag too🤗happy days…. Hope this helps🙏 & Thankyou

Glad to help, Halfords hand warmers are a game changer regardless of what glove you stuff em in 😂👍🏻….also I’m about 18mth into my love affair with my Cloudpeak😂 always worried about it’s 4season capability though with the huge gap to the ground🤔 so I bought some rip-stop off eBay & altered it, to say I’ve never used a sowing machine in my life it’s absolutely awesome 🤩 🤗 that’s my trumpet blown!😂….. I have 3 photos if your interested but absolutely know idea how to share on here…I’ll send them if you have any idea & want to peak, pardon the pun 😂😂 thanks

The tor you thought was Kitty Tor was in fact Great Links Tor (which is awesome) Kitty Tor is the tiny pile of rocks before it and...not awesome, it's also very, very boggy.

I find cycling helps with the zero impact. Do you use trekking poles? Recommend CBD oil. Might help. Can I ask how far do you live from Dartmoor? I would probably have to make a weekend of it there. Although I’m maybe 30 mins away from Purbecks, New Forest and North Dorset. Can even walk from home to a river valley walk, however not ideal for overnight stops. Take care.smash it👍

Funnily enough a friend has just sent me some CBD gummies to try, keep meaning to try the oil but get bamboozled as there’s so many different ones and it’s not cheap is it?! 😂 I’m about an hour to an hour and a half away depending on which part of the moor I start from. Sounds like you’ve got lots to explore around you though but I know what you mean about camping, it makes me nervous hence I keep heading to the moors lol! ‘Access CBD’ is the company I use, seems to take the edge off. But yes expensive. Have been getting some kit together so hopefully be out & about soon. It's been around for hundreds of years and seems to be making its way into mainstream medicine. My physical therapist "cupped" my back recently. dartmoor is the strangest place, like you said you’d expect it to be dry up high, but i suppose all the peat that builds up high just hangs on to water ,yet your go to other tors thats are totally dry, gritty, rocky and you have trouble to get those pegs in lol, may see you out and about at some point with my lot in passing as we’re based in plymouth so up there a lot, by the way if you n partner want a pub camp? White thorn inn lets you camp in there for free, singer of maddog mcrea runs it , just ask for mike as ask him to camp there, you could look at smartwool gloves, even shoud they get wet they will stay warm as most of thier stuff is merino wool so nice n soft, waterproof maybe arcteryx might be worth a look at

You remind me of myself in my own videos, LOL. You are just so happy to be outdoors and it shines through. Your dinner looked so good! I am ever so envious of all you wonderful UKers that you can cook in your tent without worry of a big ole bear coming up on you because he smells your dinner cooking from miles away. It's always suggested eating a good distance away from your tent so bears don't associate tents with food in the US. Don't want to ever wind up as a bear tent taco! LOL! ~RVA~

On my last longish hike I had pains in the hips for the first time, not good at all, so I know how you feel...but the sunrise and the gnarly woods were lovely... 31:59 not yet wide awake and squinting at the camera you are the spit of Alice Roberts! 😊

Ansum camp there Karen, gonna head back up that way again myself in the new year. Pretty sure that was a sheep tick, ugly little b'stards! Not been cold enough to kill them all off yet. I wish I had spent more time exploring the area as you did when I did pretty much the same hike, Blackator Close would have been beautiful when I was there, but by the time I was in that area I was far too exhausted lol

It just popped in my head that I forgot to mention something!
The guy with the bugle who told you he is laying trails might have been laying trails for drag hunting. They basically drag a bag of aniseed or something similar scented over the ground and then when the hunt starts the dogs follow the scent all the way along the trail to the finish point.
I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure that's what he was doing! I'm probably wrong, I normally am :)

Its a bit of a slog from West Mill to Yes Tor eh? High Wilhays is where I am going to be camping next, and not sure if you know or not, but it is technically a mountain as its over 600m :) I do love that part of the moor though, so much to see. Great vid, looking forward to the next one!

And yes, that hill is a killer 😂 although I had been slowly and steadily climbing all the way from Meldon and through very boggy ground so was already getting tired by that point.

@@ksgonewild Me and Rob did the same route a while back, was great as it was a really clear day and we could see for miles. Just for clarity, I was not nit picking with my mountain comment, just an interesting bit of info, both yes tor and high wilhays are mountains ( kinda) I think the only things classed as mountains south of the brecons

Great video. The Tor in distance at 35.30 is Great Links tor 😊 Kitty is in front of it, the flat hill.
Highly recomend a walking pole. Use it for prodding the bogs and stabillity for stream crossings. Cant beat Kraken or spiced rum on a camp. Also I use a 1 liter stainles flask for taking 2 beers in. Keeps it chilled in the summer 👍🍻 Look forward to next one.

And you could think about an ipod or a second phone for music. But just be careful of copyrights. As i have heard of people getting their vids removed for playing music .And for the gloves you can pick up gloves from ebay/amazon for about 10/20 quid depending on the ones you go for. Hi Karen love what your doing very much similar to me in many ways…re-setting & soothing the soul, really can’t beat being out👍🏻 On the gloves/hands thing I got myself a pair of the neoprene fingerless gloves that also turn into mitts from Decathlon, about £15ish . I use Halfords hand / feet warmer (really cheap) and slip these inside the palm of the glove… it’s amazing……so hot and they last 8hrs so you can Chuck them in the sleeping bag too🤗happy days…. Hope this helps🙏 & Thankyou

Glad to help, Halfords hand warmers are a game changer regardless of what glove you stuff em in 😂👍🏻….also I’m about 18mth into my love affair with my Cloudpeak😂 always worried about it’s 4season capability though with the huge gap to the ground🤔 so I bought some rip-stop off eBay & altered it, to say I’ve never used a sowing machine in my life it’s absolutely awesome 🤩 🤗 that’s my trumpet blown!😂….. I have 3 photos if your interested but absolutely know idea how to share on here…I’ll send them if you have any idea & want to peak, pardon the pun 😂😂 thanks

The tor you thought was Kitty Tor was in fact Great Links Tor (which is awesome) Kitty Tor is the tiny pile of rocks before it and...not awesome, it's also very, very boggy.

sorry to hear about arthritis 😕 can feel the pain. I have it In an ankle and a shoulder. I find cycling helps with the zero impact. Do you use trekking poles? Recommend CBD oil. Might help.
Can I ask how far do you live from Dartmoor? I would probably have to make a weekend of it there. Although I’m maybe 30 mins away from Purbecks, New Forest and North Dorset. Can even walk from home to a river valley walk, however not ideal for overnight stops. Take care.smash it👍

Yes I’ve just started using one trekking pole (usually holding my camera with the other hand lol!! It has helped though definitely!
Funnily enough a friend has just sent me some CBD gummies to try, keep meaning to try the oil but get bamboozled as there’s so many different ones and it’s not cheap is it?! 😂
I’m about an hour to an hour and a half away depending on which part of the moor I start from. Sounds like you’ve got lots to explore around you though but I know what you mean about camping, it makes me nervous hence I keep heading to the moors lol! I'm so glad your channel is doing well. You're so upbeat and positive. Didn't know you were dealing with back and hip pain yet it isn't stopping you. If anything, you want to use your adventures to feel better. Very impressive! BTW, have you ever heard of "Cupping"? It's been around for hundreds of years and seems to be making its way into mainstream medicine. My physical therapist "cupped" my back recently. dartmoor is the strangest place, like you said you’d expect it to be dry up high, but i suppose all the peat that builds up high just hangs on to water ,yet your go to other tors thats are totally dry, gritty, rocky and you have trouble to get those pegs in lol, may see you out and about at some point with my lot in passing as we’re based in plymouth so up there a lot, by the way if you n partner want a pub camp? White thorn inn lets you camp in there for free, singer of maddog mcrea runs it , just ask for mike as ask him to camp there, you could look at smartwool gloves, even shoud they get wet they will stay warm as most of thier stuff is merino wool so nice n soft, waterproof maybe arcteryx might be worth a look at
