When the music was built up and cut off showing the clip I was watching intently because I was curious what would happen and why it was added. After he read from the wall, "Jake bake a cake", and the music started again, I teared up. When a silly joke he made at the beginning of the video was something that ties back to his childhood... That just made the joke much more meaningful. :')
It's okay! Everyone's first time is ought to be a little messy, what matter is how we stir the inside, and cream it nicely on the outside Just a dirty pun don't mind me
I'm someone who actually bakes and the meringue needs to form stiff peaks so you know you've beaten it enough, soft peaks don't stay for very long and are super short and stiff ones hold for a while and stand tall when you lift the electric mixer;; just a quick tip since I couldn't see the meringue, so I hope you did it right, Jake. Second, YOU GOTTA FOLD THE MERINGUE IN GENTLY AND IT SHOULD BE KINDA THICK or else it loses all its air. That's it though you made an amazing cake :)
Yeah, im not a baker but i noticed his meringue looked really undermixed and way too mushy still, i hope he just cut the footage of the actual meringue but it seems highly unlikely 😅

This video reminded me of the first time my brother and I made pizza. We were in the kitchen for 6 hours, arguing and laughing and joking; we likewise made mistakes and learned from them, and the end result was rather satisfactory for first timers. I miss those times; maybe for New years I'll go home for a visit 😁 Your cake was very beautiful at the end, thank you for the memories, laughs and "OH-NO" moments that were nicely saved lol hopefully you continue with your baking endeavor; it's fun once you get the hang of it!
Just some tips for future cake baking vids! 1) When scraping batter into the pan use a silicone spatula 2) Set aside your butter and eggs before you start baking so each can drop to room temperature (you can microwave the butter and let the eggs run under warm water if you'd like to speed up the process) 3)Whip your egg whites for a bit longer 4) Specifically for sponge cake sift your flour and sugar to get that 5) When mixing in flour (or sugar) you should fold it in with a silicone spatula 6) When building the cake spread a tiny piece of butter cream under the bottom layer of cake to stop it from sliding 7) I'd definitely make two times the butter cream but if you make the same amount then you could just make two slabs of cake instead of three 8) It's easier to make the cakes layer slab by layer slab but if you want it flatter then you could pour the batter all into one pan and then cut it into three (or two) pieces after it's baked Getting a couple more tools (like an icing smoother) for decorating the cake would help a lot too! :D The end result was so pretty and I'm glad you were able to have a lot of fun :) Thanks for the content!
I only cook a large quantity foods for my family so i rarely measure things. But i heard baking is about precision, is it just an exaggeration? (Genuine question)
@@hazelnut1294Baking is precise in that the measurements should generally be followed to ensure that you get your desired result, like don’t eyeball the amount of baking soda for example, but it’s also very free form in that you can add whatever you want. Like replace almond extract for vanilla. Or add whatever you want to your cookies
Ok so it really depends on how well you know how a ingredient reacts.sounds weird but how me out. For example, if i put sugar and egg whites in a bowl b4 mixing cause you know they are gonna get mix anyway. There will be a high chance that the sugar will disintegrate and when you mix its no matter how long your meringue wont be stiff. If you don't understand how your recipe works you can google them or watch youtube tutorial some tutorial explains why you have to do this and that

A few mistakes were made but that's fine! but here is a list of what you can probably improve on next time you bake a cake again or for anyone interested on baking! -I noticed that it's a cake that doesn't use leavening agents (baking powder, etc) so it means the fluffiness will come from the meringue. The meringue was at medium stiffness, a little more mixing would be preferable to make it stiffer, you want it to be able to create a peak that doesn't bend. -I'm guessing that the recipe itself already said to fold but many beginners opt to mix, which causes the batter to lose air, hence the dense cake. -The frosting was gritty due to the butter being too cold, room temperature butter is the best to use when whipping up the frosting. -Gel food coloring is the best type of food coloring to use on frosting and whipped creams to avoid loss of consistency -I'm guessing that the cake wasn't cooled enough so the frosting started to melt, refrigerate it first to cool it down or let it cool off on a countertop But lovely cake tho! defo better than the first one I made which resembled a brick :
