Very nice restoration and repair to the broken base. I like the clamping device eliminating need to bolt it down. Good idea for a small vise. Do not care for the yellow paint and application was a little loose. But still a very practical restoration.
No lathe, no mill, no problem! Good work there friend. Also loved that you used electrolysis for the rust, but then didn't go ahead and sandblast it anyway. Dunno why, but it frustrates me to see some do that.
Next time you have a screw stuck and broken like the ones shown, don't just cut and drill them out, weld a nut to the broken screw. Even if broken off flush you can still weld a nut onto it. Two purposes are served... you have something to put a wrench on so you are able turn the screw, and the localized intense heat of the welding swells the screw shank slightly which when cooled will shrink back and release its death grip on the threads in the hole. This trick will almost always allow you to remove the toughest stuck broken screws from just about anything. I've removed a LOT of snapped off studs from cast iron exhaust manifolds this way, and there's not many things tougher to remove than an old corroded stud or broken bolt frozen in a chunk of cast iron, but this trick will usually do it and leave the threads in the iron undamaged if you're careful.
Nice restoration, I don't know if I would've painted it myself, I think I would have just heated the whole thing in the oven to about 400 and dunked it in a bucket of oil until cool. But I Like the looks of cast iron myself.

Lots of good stuff here. The paint lines are really bugging me though. Also the yellow paint isn't my favorite, but it would be better with clean lines.
Thinking the same. All that metal prep then no cleaning up of paint right at the end plus using a screw as bar end and not grinding smooth. Both 5 mins work each to make project A+.

Most of the indian and asian Restoration Channels do this for some reason lmao. I have no clue why!?!? But its sooo Cheesy and So obviously fake everytime! I truly wish they would stop doing it because everyone knows its fake and no one likes watching that! We just want to see the Restoration. Theres even a channel that every bare metal part the guy paints silver off camera and then puts them in a bowl of some mysterious cleaner and acts as if the bolts and nuts/ other parts came out of the solution clean and Shiny lol but in reality they're just painted in chrome lmao its sooo Cheesy! And obvious. Even in the comments he always get busted! Lol everyone calls him out about it lol.
Good Video. No need to dress it up with the supposed finding of the vise on an old fence (the lack of aged marks on the fence where the vise sat indicates that it was only recently fastened there). A video like this stands alone, without all the BS.
I would have put a longer bar on the end for greater leverage on tightening the vise. Nice job though. Only thing I would do is clean up your paint lines some. Your paint lines are all over the place after you pealed off the tape from painting. Cleaner lines make the vise look better, even with the yellow color.
Why did you have to do the 'fake finding it'? It's obvious by looking at the threads that they had been turned and there would not have been any green mould underneath the vice if it had been on that board anyway? Why do it? Also, the board is on a side board from the wagon and would have meant the vice was set vertically. It doesn't make sense.
When using heat to remove a screw you heat up the material around the screw to make the material expand. Do not heat up the screw. In the video you have the screw red hot. Not good. Good restoration though.
Actually in the case of a screw/bolt that is really tight you are better heating the bolt up first, as the bolt expands and compacts all the rust and years of dirt, then as it cools contracts leaving a small amount of wiggle room. the heat will soon transfer in to the larger casting from the smaller bolt, so if you then concentrate the heat on the casting you will soon get that stubborn little bolt out. Years of working in a machine shop getting various broken bolts out taught me that!

Do you live on an old scrapyard site? You've found hundreds of things in the dirt, uncanny. Them bolts came out very easy with the tipy tip of long nosed pliers and little effort. You went straight into drilling them out without exploring easier options like heat impact and penetrating oil, clean the slot out and find the best fitting screwdriver. You had the wrong screwdriver and continued even though it was fucking the slot up. I'm surprised you never break the cast.Anyway the end justified the means. Maybe you think it makes for a better story. A lie is still a lie, so stop insulting people's intelligence.
Why do all you copy cat restore guys use the same stuff, not really knowing what is good and what is just ok. WD-40? Really? Guess you all have never tried PB Blaster.

Brilliant Job friend , Stay Safe and have a nice day !!!.
The rear nut is upside down, turn it around. My friend has an identical vise to this one but i think it is a very little bit larger. Good resto!
Good Restoration
Pretty good job given that you only have a basic set of tools available! Just dump the fake treasure find bit in the beginning it is fooling no one.
Really nice work !

Nice , neat job

Congrats - really liked the video / but I do not like yellow - but other than that - GREAT JOB
Outstanding work

Wow. He found a vice just like that. He’s like those magic asian fisherman. Lmao. Just pulling up dead fish from the water. Incredible
good one
Nice Job
This guy gets my vote. Has a vise, and it's even bolted down. Electrolysis for rust removal, very good. Painting skills are lacking.

no need for the fake part about finding it outside
Right? The wood underneath the vise had exactly the same wear. I can appreciate the atmosphere and drama...but still.
And you can see the thread had been tightened as there was no rust in the base of it. Other than that, good watch so thumbs up

Already turned the screw of the lower clamp at 0:30. Better show the real stuff. That vise has not been on that board for sure.

But welding 2 thick elements is below average.

Yeah the vice hadnt set out exposed to the elements. it was rusty but not weathered badly as if it had been outside for some time.
Seriously, how many hours of sanding and filing? I imagine forever!
Too bad, the original color was Hammered grey...... I've got the same.... ^_^

right... the camera crew just HAPPENED to be on hand at the moment of discovery ! ! ! ! fake... BUT, nice vise and excellent work !
This vice wasn't exposed to the elements outside weather for a long time.
This guy has an amazing talent but to believe that he found that tool hanging on the side of a barn door and it wasn't stuck solid ?
Put the tap in the drill chuck, by hand turn the chuck to start the threads straight.
I’m surprised how many restorers seem to be missing a basic tool….. Impact Drivers make stubborn screws easy.
Restoration is good but it's not upto the expectations

И что там сломано?. Целые тиски, просто ржавые.
At the beginning of the clip I would've already sprayed penetrating fluid on the screws of the clamps. Then a flame, then the impact screwdriver.
