I saw this in my early teens and was gobsmacked. Couldn't make head nor tails of it. Find it pretty dull now except the shots of Fred $ sons walking single file which I really enjoyed. (Early days in the evolutionary process for this bunch of Daggs).....
I was a Fred Dagg fan before he became Fred Dagg! John Clarke started his comedy career in local TV comedy sitcom called "Buck House" and even then quickly became a household favourite ; his catchphrase was "That'll be the door" whenever someone knocked. oh well, you had to be there, i guess!

Absolutely Priceless!! Echoes of Monty Python. Mocking everyone, esp himself…the days when people understood that thoughtful, clever humor is about commiserating around shared foibles/flaws, not about creating victims. II miss my years in NZ 87 & 91, the farmer/sheep conspiracies, the over-confident & Wild West attitudes of ski/raft/jump/ locals, the depression-era culture there(fix things!), and Michelle!
I only just spotted the "Mount Crawford office" 🤣 For context it was a prison in Wellington City. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_prisons_in_New_Zealand#Wellington_Prison
I recall hearing from a Kiwi friend of mine that the city-dwellers in New Zealand took this episode of Country Calendar seriously, probably because it was (and still is) usually a serious programme showcasing various farms around the country.
Good ol' NZ. Well have to say that his humour was far closer to the truth than some people would like to admit. I worked on 2 dairy farms as a teenager and there was no humour and the scenery was much as you see here. Depressing.
I wonder why there are never any opening or closing credits on these old NZ shows? Were they super-imposed only during the actual broadcast? That might make sense ... they only really seemed to use film over videotape
When New Zealand English was charming. Men were blokes or jokers; seldom "guys". Refreshingly free of cringeworthy American slang such as "awesome" or "absolutely". Intonation free of uptalk. Wonderfully dry delivery. Those were the days.
such a shame New Zealand has become woke and pc over the past 6yrs - pleased that John Clarke is not here to see how stupid we have become and how we have lost our sense of humor
The days of comedy. Where you could speak your mind, laugh at yourself and laugh at others. Nowadays here in communist NZ, speaking your mind and laughing at others can get you arrested.

Rewooling the sheep....a brilliant bit of original comedy. Thank you, Mr Clarke, for all of your work.
I have the most fond memories of John playing Fred Dagg i saw all of his movies, they were good times.........
Good to see Fred and Trev and Trev and Trev and Trev and Trev and Trev again. The only one missing is Bruce Bayliss.

Things I miss: Fred Dagg, steel shower trays, shower taps and shower curtains, glass milk bottles, and bloody good blokes ❤️ 😭
yep, those steel shower curtains were damn indestructable.

Thank you John for all the memories. RIP
Milk in glass bottles, loaves of bread and butter bring back a lot memories.
Fred was shaking the milk because of the cream on the top. Remember doing that.
That was full of wholesome goodness.

New Zealand is a small country population wise, so most of us have some knowledge of farming life!
John Clarke was a funny bugger: there's even a joke in there about a rotary milking set-up and homogenised milk.
It's ingenious. The milk is homogenized before exiting the cow, in fact.
Gone too soon :( RIP
R.I.P FRED

C Phillips 'Absolutely' is popular with the UK middle classes. It's their equivalent to 'awesome'.

A very unfunny man. John Clarke just thought he was funny.
Yeah, him and a whole lot of other people. Mind you, we're easy to please.
He and Billy T would have made an interesting team.
