Something being undermined by the elites; while that may be true, did he ever think to question it's also because of the grifters and authoritarians that also undermine its effectiveness and cultural relevance on people-- all the televangelists, preachers, church go-ers, Bible thumpers, scummy two-faced priests and popes like our current one and the vatican. So, you can your have religion and authority, but once you start policing everyone and enforcing your ideals without compromise and second thought, it rings hollow and reeks of righteous indignation and anger. It shows insecurity and weakness, you don't actually care about freedom which to be quite honest, he never did. He's a control freak/fetishist on a level that he doesn't uunderstand himself or would gladly, easily ignore it.
