    Im teaching my GF(who speaks spanish(PR)) the way I was taught it in school as a Gringo en Los Estados Unidos(American), and its so similar to how Non- Americans learn English in a way that we are not taught in schools here. Fascinating! She doesnt get 'Imperfecto' & 'Preterito'. Amazing how we all learn languages in completely different ways...

    _Hola, muchas gracias por este video. He estado confundida entre imperfecto y indefinido por un poco tiempo. Pero, queria decir algo... I thought "no quiso" was for refused? is that correct as well? That's what some people have told me. But I agree with your explanation too_
    _also could you please explain the difference between conoci and conocia? Have you done a video on it already?_

    • @LightSpeedSpanishChannel
      @LightSpeedSpanishChannel  Месяц назад

      You're right. When you say No quiso decir nada, you did not say anything. You refused. When you say: No quería decir nada, you are just stating your intention. From the context we don't know if you did or not in the end.

    its like the imperfect feels something is missing if you dont follow the sentence. Yo trabajé en ese lugar/ yo trabajaba en ese lugar.
    In that last one i need you to add info or it feels empty, Yo trabajaba en ese lugar hasta que me enfermé,

  • @bshirah

    My Mexican friend once asked me a question, and later I asked her "por qué quisiste saber...," and she corrected me by saying "querías." Later she said "hmmm... nevermind, "quisiste is OK." Can you clarify why she initially rejected my original choice, but finally accepted it?

    • @LightSpeedSpanishChannel
      @LightSpeedSpanishChannel  3 года назад

      Great question: Qusiste would only work if the question or information had then been given. (Quise saberlo = I wanted to know and I found out.) That would complete the action. However, if someone wanted to know but didn't get the answer, we would have to use Quería. Quería is the intention, the wanting to know, the anticipation of the info. Does that help?

    Yo trabajaba en la estación, pero ahora trabajo etc - I used to work etc - I’m struggling to understand that the imperfect is the intention! It is clear that it’s part of a story but it’s also a fact that I used to work in the station.

    Cuando pasa algo que no quería que pasara, se usa pretérito o imperfecto? Por ejemplo, cuando el mesero te trae un plato que no pediste. Digo no quería eso o no quise eso? Quería me suena bien pero ya no sé. Muchísimas gracias. Me encantan los videos!

    • @LightSpeedSpanishChannel

      Hola, Kyle. He visto que no respondimos a tu pregunta. Disculpa.
      Si el mesero trae algo que no pedí, le diría:
      No pedí eso.
      No quería eso.
      No fue eso lo que pedí.

    It´s not that your book Perfecting the Past in Spanish isn´t the best and stands alone in the market. It is and it does. AND, not ¨however¨ but, ¨And¨, when I extracted the notes in comparative form, it´s a page of crystal clarity. We need that type of deep explanation and then, the summary. However, okay, now however, we must do the summary ourselves because it is meaningless coming from anywhere else. We have to write it so that we show we understand it.
