- The construction of the New England Innovation Academy campus encompassed the phased renovation of an existing 238,000 sf facility.
Phase 1 encompassed renovation of 60,000 sf of occupied space to create learning studios, servery, libraries, shared spaces and a theater, in addition to another 25,000 sf of dormitory space. This unique, fast-paced project required close coordination with the design team and owners to build the school within the original GMP while adapting to their evolving curriculum.
To further add to the complexity, a new entrance was created to the building, shifting the main entry from the east side of the building to the west. This 2,000 sf addition required extensive structural coordination to connect the new to the old with a seamless transition between a 40+ year old masonry building and new modern metal panel and glazed addition creating a grand entrance. Given the late start in planning and coordination with the owner and designers early on, it was determined that a contingency plan be developed for temporary space for the students requiring minor cosmetic upgrades in the existing Buildings A, B and East Dorm.
Currently, the renovation of East Dorm is underway and scheduled for completion in 2025.
